《The Insemination》Chapter Sixteen

"Thank you," I mumble to Ezra as he holds the door to the black Challenger open for me.
As I get in the car, the scent of apples and cinnamon hit my nose. I grunt to myself as I feel the need to rush back in the house, lock the door, and tell Ezra to take me to court. I frown at my thoughts.
Irina you are a grown ass woman, do not start acting like a child now. I'm sure we can do visitation with no problem. Don't make a big deal about this.
Yawning, I do a small stretch as Ezra opens the door to the driver side and gets in.
"Sleepy?" he asks me.
I don't answer. Instead I look out the window to the nice fall leaves and the shining sun and grunt once again.
Sleepy? Is he kidding me? I didn't sleep a wink once he left! All I did was research pregnancy things.
"Look, Irina," he starts.
"We're going to be late," I say flatly.
"What?"
"We are going to be late. Now either your going to take me to my doctor appointment or I get to go back inside and try to sleep," I say taking something out of my purse.
He looks at me with amusement in his eyes as he burst into laughter. "Is that a taser?" he asks through laughs.
I roll my eyes. "Yes it's a taser. So either you start the damn car, or I get to watch you do Hammer Time. Your pick."
The amusement in Ezra's eyes doesn't leave as he turns the key in the ignition and start to drive.
"Now," Ezra says making a left. "I want to apologize."
Instead of looking at him I continue to look outside the window as my hand rest under my chin. "Let me guess, your sorry for wanting to take me to court over my child," I say flatly.
"Umm, yeah," he says. "How did you know that?"
I turn to look at him with a "Are you kidding me look" and shake my head. "You can't just go to some woman who is pregnant with your child and say your going to take her to court for her baby without feeling like a total ass afterwards."
"But I don't feel like a total ass," he says looking over at me.
Feeling a small pain in my chest, I look away from him before my eyes have the chance to change colors. "You know, lying to me won't help you with visitations," I say. "It's okay to feel like an ass. Have no shame."
The car is silent for a bit as I can't imagine what Ezra is thinking about. Looking in my purse, I dig for my iPhone 6 and once I find it, I see that I have no miss calls or messages.
Where is the love people?
"Why?" Ezra asks out of the blue. I look at him in confusion.

"Why what?"
"Why tell me?"
"Why wouldn't I?"
"Well normally, when a woman gets a sperm donor she doesn't go and find him. She just lives on with her child. So why didn't you?" he asks turning his attention to me as the light just turns red.
"Because I wanted the father of my child to know that they have a kid in the world. To know that they will have a bloodline to continue to grow. But my best friend stressed that I should. I was going to just keep it to myself, but if she would've asked if I saw you," I pause. "Plus you didn't sign the confidentiality form and said you wanted to be contacted. Don't you remember?" I ask as our eyes meet each other.
My heart starts to beat a bit faster as I see a flash of green and turn away. "Lights green," I tell him. He turns his attention back at the road as we drive the rest of the way in silence.

I glance at the baby and pregnancy photos across the wall and smile at a few. There are two women in the waiting area. Once is pregnant and looks to be about five months, as the other woman is pregnant and has a little boy at the toy area. For some reason the two women have a glow, but do not see excited one bit.
Motherhood can't be all that bad. Right?
Ezra and I arrived not to long ago and as we wait I look at a couple of baby books until he comes to my side. "They are ready to see us," he tells me.
"That didn't take long," I say more to myself than Ezra. "So, is this your doctor?" I ask him as we walk through the doors and follow the nurse to a room. "Because we could've just went to visit my doctor."
Ezra doesn't answer me, instead we just continue to follow the nurse through the door and down the hallway and into another hallway and in a room.
"The doctor will be right with you," the nurse smiles as she sends a smile mainly at Ezra.
"Thank you," Ezra says. Once the nurse leaves and closes the door behind her, I walk to the hospital bed and jump on it. Ezra stuffs his hand in his black slack pockets that complimented his dark blue casual button down shirt. His hair is down as some strings are in front of his face.
Compared to Ezra I look completely out of place. I have on a black sweater and blue skinny jeans on with black boots and a white scarf as my hair is pulled back in a ponytail. I look like a typical girl ready for the cold weather, while Ezra looks like he is ready to go shake the presidents hand.
"Family doctor," he finally says. "The doctor is a family doctor."
"Oh," I say fiddling with my nails.

It doesn't take long to hear the doorknob jiggle and the door open revealing a tall woman with dark brown hair and a fair tan. She has a long white doctor coat on that is hiding a black dress.
"Ah, Mr. Collins, pleasure seeing you again," the doctor says opening her arms to hug him.
Ezra smiles and accepts her hug. "Now, what can I help you with?" she asks not noticing me yet.
"This is Irina," Ezra says gesturing to me. "She's pregnant with my child and I wanted to make sure her body is compatible with it."
The doctor's eyes wander to me and widen as a big smile crosses her face. "Hi," she smiles as she makes her way to me.
I stick out my hand to shake hers and she gladly accepts it. "Hi, I'm Irina Hathaway. It's nice to meet you."
"No, the pleasure is mine. My name is Mrs. Jenny Smith. I'm Ezra's family doctor. How long have you been pregnant?"
"I recently found out yesterday. When I found out, I contacted Ezra and told him. I have been artificially inseminated for about three weeks now."
"Oh, insemination. That is quite unique of you. Okay, if you don't mind can you please sit on the bed. I'm going to check your vitals and give that tummy of yours a look."
Nodding my head, I hop back on the bed sit up straight. Ezra comes to my side and stands close but still keeping distance from me. Dr. Smith straps a heart monitor to my arm and it doesn't take long for it to tighten.
I wonder how strange it is for a girl to contact her sperm donor? Aside from him wanting to be contacted, it's not like Ezra and I can ever get together.
My heart beat starts to quicken. What if we did? What if he somehow comes to like me and we raise this baby together? He'd have to become like able first. Besides, that's something that only happens in a movie. We probably don't even have anything in common. But, what if I did make my family whole?
"Ms. Hathaway are you okay?" Dr. Smith asks me.
Coming out of my thoughts I notice the monitor is showing my heart beat rising.
"Oh, I'm sorry." Taking a deep breath, I breathe out slowly to control my heart rate.
"That's better," she smiles. "You don't have high blood pressure which is good. Now I'm just going to take a blood sample."
My body tenses up. "B-blood sample? How much blood?" I ask looking at her with a worried look. Ezra stares at me with a raised eyebrow. "I'm afraid of needles."
"Just two tubes is all," she says with a small smile.
"Can you use a butterfly needle? That's the only way I'll agree," I say trying my best negotiating.
"Yes I can," she says as she starts to set up.
Closing my eyes, I try to ease my breathing. Feeling eyes on me, I peek at Ezra. "You got something to say? Speak."
"Needles?" He asks seeming surprised.
"Yes, needles. You have a problem with that?" I ask defensively.
He puts his hands up. "No ma'am. I wouldn't dare mock your fear," he says with a smile.
"Are you ready?" She asks coming towards me with a butterfly needle connected to one of the tubes. My eyes go wide. Slowly nodding my head, I watch as she smacks my arm where my veins are, rubs the alcohol pad on the area, and brings the needle to my strongest vein.
Closing my eyes tight, I feel the needle stick my arm. Reaching out, I grab Ezra's arm and squeeze it.
Hurry up and get out of my arm! Hurry up and get out of my arm! I hate needles. Ugh!
"All done," she says. Opening my eyes, I let go of Ezra's arm and let out a breath of air I didn't know was pint up. "I'm going to get this to the lab and I'll be right back with your results," she says with a smile as she gathers my blood tubes and leaves me with Ezra.
What have I gotten myself into?
*****
"Well, you seem to be as healthy as a horse. The baby seems like it is going to be a perfect match with your body," Dr. Smith smiles as she walks back into the room but mainly looking to Ezra.
"Good," I smile. "I'm sure I could've told you that. I went to see my doctor yesterday as well."
"Well for now on you are going to come to her," Ezra says without a smile on his face.
I turn my head to him and frown. "What makes you think you are able to control me like that? You may be the father of this baby, but remember you are just the sperm donor. I will continue seeing my doctor," I say calmly.
"This is not up for a debate," he says.
"Who said it was a debate? If it is a debate you will be debating with yourself because I will continue to see my doctor and that's that."
The doctor walks over to Ezra and smacks him behind his head. "What is the matter with you? Your parents raised you better than that alp- Ezra. You cannot control her or this baby. She is the mother of your child. You are in debt to her. Now, Ms. Hathaway, if you would like to come and visit me again, I have scheduled you an appointment for you to come back in four weeks," she says smiling at me.
"Thank you," I say taking her words into consideration. Just as I am about to ask her a question, I get a sickening feeling in my gut. Hoping off of the bed, I open the door and rush out of the room looking for the nearest bathroom.
Here we go again.
