《The Broken House》"Someone's In There"

The townspeople gathered at the Clarks' house. Some of them disapprovingly talk among themselves. Several view the house as a landmark for the family. Few just came for their admiration for demolition. Tod and Gina arrived to pay their dues.
"Have you seen Nathan?" Tod asked.
"No. I haven't," his wife answered.
"Neither have I. I don't see Leo either."
"That's because your son has lied to you," O'Connor said. He walked to them and gave them a smirk.
"What does that mean," Gina asked icily.
"Someone's in there," O'Connor exclaimed loudly.
When everyone heard that, they scattered conversations around. They couldn't assume that anyone is living in a wreck. "I found this letter written by the late lady of this house." O'Connor exposed Mrs. Clark's note. He gave the crowd a heinous grin.
"The Clarks have a kid. A ten-year-old girl is alive in Shady Brook alone. As inspector of this town, I hereby relocate Nadine Clark to the orphanage."
As he was approaching to the porch, someone said, "No." Everyone turned to the voice.
Leo emerged closer to the front. He looked at his nemesis at the eyes. "The only reason you ordered this is so you end your little vendetta."
"Either she comes out or she goes down with the house and everything with it!"
"Nadine lost her parents. She doesn't owe you anything."
"Leo, how do you know this," Tod asked.
"Because... because she's 'Nathan Barks'. She's the friend I've been visiting."
The townspeople was bemused by the news. Leo's parents were shocked to hear. "Nadine has a rough life. She lost trust when someone tried to wreck her house." He turned to everyone. "She'll tell me what she wants."
As he went in the house, O'Connor said, "She's only a child. What does she know?"

The Saga of Geir Røshjert
"His name will never be sung, son. Skalds and bards like me will never tell his stories to the mass. But only us and us alone will keep telling his story, his actions, his saga. For he is the man who started all of this." This is a story no man in Lumenter will ever hear, no man except for an Arnesen, for his stories are dull and generic to the ears of the masses, except for us, because he is the very reason why our people traveled this far east, why kingdoms in Erisgi fell and rose, why I... even existed in the first place. He is Geir, son of Arne, called 'the Stranger' by the people. But what he truly is, is a fiery red heart that beats inside every Eyklandian, Arnesen, and me. The Humanity Initiative (discontinued)
Virtual gaming has been around for ages. Many live their entire lives online, not caring about what’s left of the real world. The few who do, fear nuclear annihilation. The risk of an unfortunate chain reaction is too large to ignore, but as of now, prevention is impossible. Humanity, in its biological form, would never survive as it is. That’s why the UN has its full focus on “The Humanity Initiative”. The field of genetics shows promising results, but are years from ready. If bombs were to fly tomorrow, something must survive. Recent VR technology has a potential candidate for that something.Farah Al Farzha never plays online, she loathes the very idea of it. She is in love with reality, and competitive fencing is her way to prove it. But when she reluctantly went online, she couldn’t exit, or at least a copy of her consciousness couldn’t.Human, but juridically speaking no more, Farah struggles in a game that would’ve been illegal. To her only consolation, the game is modeled after reality, a place foreign to the gaming brats around her. But what demands do the UN put on potential ‘human’ survivor candidates, and how will natural selection be replaced, when reality is no more? _______________________________________________________________________
