《The Broken House》Breaking Out

The Walkers ate breakfast quietly. Tod rustled his hair since he already finished. "Surely, there must be a reason for today," he said. Gina stroked her husband's hand with her hand. Leo distressingly played with his cereal.

"Son, don't do that, please."

"All right, Dad."

Leo's anxiety was only peaking. Nadine doesn't know that she is in trouble. He rises out of his seat. "Can I be excused?"

"Where are you going," his mom asked.

"To see a friend."

"Leo, you never told us about Nathan. What is he like?"

"He's shy, brave and sensitive. He likes reading, soccer and ice cream. Can I go now, please?"

He parents gave him a funny look. Leo didn't care if they assume he is making it all up. He must reach Nadine before O'Connor does. "Okay, if that's important," his mom finally said. She still feels sketchy about his description of "Nathan".

"Thanks!" He zoomed outside. Leo sped up the street until he bumped into O'Connor again.

"Leo! How funny it is to see you from my last visit."

"Aren't you going to the police?"

"I already did. I also found out that Nathan Barks doesn't exist."

"What do you mean?"

"Stop lying, Leo. I know you're hiding her."

O'Connor grabbed Leo's arm and dragged him to an old apartment building. Leo tries to break free of his tight hold. No luck at all. O'Connor unlocks the door to a flat, opens the door and tosses him inside. He locked the door behind and left Leo inside, shouting, "Hey, let me out!"

Leo attempted to hack the lock. He was unsuccessful, so he searched for any open windows. They were blocked with bricks. Then, he saw a garbage chute. It is disgusting with stenches of mold. Leo didn't have any choices.

He lays a flat piece of cardboard, so his clothes wouldn't smell moldy. Finally, he squeezes himself inside the box. As he was getting comfortable, the rope snapped. The box fell down with Leo in there. "WWOOOAAAAH!" he screamed as it shot downard.

It finished when Leo plopped out of the chute. He landed in a full trash bin. After he got off, Leo brushed himself off. The moldly odor still lingers on him. When the clock rung noon, he rushed to Cedar Street.
