As the police continues to find the murderer, O'Connor reads the rest of the letter after he had it dried. While the handwriting is now strained, the words are still legible. It said:

My name is Donna Clark. I am the widow of James Clark. As many are aware, my husband died of influenza 5 years ago. But, you don't know this.

James and I have a daughter named Nadine. She is going to be 10 this year. I regret leaving her. I promised her I will come for her.

But, I failed her. Although my original intent was finding a job to support us, I did terrible deeds, of which I can't tell. Thus, I rid myself of the city. Whoever are reading this, don't let anyone harm my Nadine.

After that last sentence, there was a dried-up teardrop. O'Connor rubbed his chin.

Now, O'Connor doesn't know much about the Clarks. He moved to Shady Brook after Donna disappeared. He only heard of them from various conversations. From what he heard, the Clarks were a good-natured people who respected the law and those around them.

Now, he knows that they are now a couple who died of sickness and guilt. Furthermore, he has eluded one orphan his entire career. "I'm going to find this Nadine Clark and put her where she belongs."
