《The Compound》Chapter 4

You woke up not feeling any better than before, even worse to be honest. You had a killer migraine, your head pounding so hard you could practically hear it. So you slowly began to sit up in your still-warm bed, but immediately groaned as you managed to get up in a sitting position.
Just as you did, Steve came in the room, hearing you from next door. "How're you feeling doll?" He asked and sat next to your legs on the bed, feeling your head again with the back of his hand.
"To be honest?" You asked lightly and he nodded, "Horrible." He sighed and took his hand off, looking back at you.
"You're burning up." He cringed. You nodded. "I called my doctor, he will be here in about half an hour."
"Alright," You lightly nodded, pulling more covers up to get more heat.
"I'll bring you some more blankets." He lightly smiled and got up, leaving the room to grab some for you.
Of course, Steve was freaking out. He wouldn't show it, for the sake of his reputation and not freaking you out, but he wanted to make sure you were okay. He shortly came back with three or four throw blankets, carefully placing them on you and staying beside you until the doorbell rang.
One of his assistants let them in, so Steve could stay right by your side. Soon enough, Dr. Blaire came in. He was a tall, slender, older man, who had a kind and easy-going smile on his face. "Mr. Rogers," He walked in, Steve briefly getting up to shake his hand.
"Dr. Blaire, thank you so much for coming on short notice."
"It's my pleasure," he remarked and looked to you.
"I'm Y/N." You told him and quickly shook his hand.
"So, you're my patient today?" he asked and sat where Steve had previously set himself on the bed. You nodded, "Can you tell me some of your symptoms?"
"Yeah, I have a migraine, I'm really tired, and earlier today I threw up."
"Alright," he said and wrote a few things down. Then he took your temperature, blood pressure, the typical. The entire time Steve stood in a corner eyeing every movement the doctor made. Of course, he trusted him, but he wasn't sure how much he trusted anyone but himself around you.
"While you were in The Compound," he began, "Did they give you any medication?"
"Yeah, actually," You said, tucking some hair behind your ear, "There were these small pink pills, hormonal ones I think." The doctor's head shot up to you.
"When was the last time you had your heat?" He asked, concern on his face.
"I only had it once. I was 18, and then I was taken away after the first one."
"That's it," He said aloud, "Those pills, they're known in the medical community as 'Illegal Omegas', they were outlawed six months after release to the public. They were like birth control but stopped heats completely. These exact symptoms are what every woman faced when they didn't take daily doses, sometimes it was lethal-"
"Lethal?" Steve spoke up, stepping closer, his arms crossed across his torso.
"Yes, lethal," The doctor sighed, as you began to worry, "But there is a medication that will subside all the symptoms in about 12 hours-"
"We'll take it." Steve immediately said. The doctor sighed.
"Well, I would like to warn you that it is quite expensive-"

"Doesn't matter." Steve interrupted again.
"And your symptoms will be worst for the next 12 hours. Shortly after that mark though, they will subside."
"It's fine," You sighed, "I can handle it." He nodded and wrote some things down.
"The medication is simple. Two pills and one injection," You nodded, "The injection will probably hurt. The needle is quite long, and the serum is thick and cold."
"That's fine," I said, "It's just a poke." Dr. Blaire lightly smiled and grabbed a few things from his bag, one of which is a syringe with a long-needle like he'd told you. Then he got out a small bottle and filled up the syringe as you altered your position so he had access to your arm.
He gave you a warning ahead of time before placing it in. And of course, it hurt. Like hell. You clenched your teeth and sucked in a breath, which Steve noticed. He sat in an armchair in the corner of your room, his fists clenched and face straight. Once again, his Alpha instincts kicked in as you, his Omega, were in pain, if even for a few seconds.
Then he gave you the two pills, which you swallowed gratefully, "Also, just so you know," he spoke again, "Your next heat will start in probably about two months. It will be extremely tough to get through, lots of pain, so you should prepare." You nodded, and soon the doctor was on his way out. He gave you some painkillers to try and subside the headaches as much as possible, which you took. Steve came back in shortly after walking the doctor out. "How are you feeling?" He asked again.
"Not much better," You admitted, looking down at your hands and playing with your fingers, "But I doubt the medicine had kicked in yet." He nodded, "Thank you, as well."
"For what?" He asked, leaning against the door.
"Getting a doctor."
"You weren't feeling well," He sat down again on your bed, "And I'm supposed to take care of you. So it's the least I could do." You lightly nodded. "I'm going to let you get some more rest, remember if you need me, I'm right next door." You nodded as he walked out again, leaving you in your room to fall asleep.
You woke up a few hours later, with the urge again to throw up. So that's what you did. You threw yourself out of bed and into the guest bathroom, immediately letting everything out, flushing the toilet, and wiping your face, putting in some mouth wash as well. You knew it wasn't worth brushing your teeth, considering you would most likely throw up again.
You went back to bed shortly after but were absolutely freezing. You got up to change the temperature in the room, but that didn't help. So you went to your last resort.
You walked down the hall and knocked on Steve's door. "Come in!" You heard him call, so you did.
"Steve?" You asked.
"Yeah?" he asked, his head whipping back from where he was reading a book, already in bed. And shirtless, making you feel a little flustered.
"Um, is there any way that I could maybe sleep with you?" You asked, feeling a little awkward, "If you don't want to it's fine, I'm just really cold and-"
"Of course you can," he lightly smiled and patted for you to get next to him. You made your way to that side of his huge bed, getting under the covers and laying down. He placed his book down and turned off the light. "Goodnight Y/N."

"Night Steve." At first, you were alright. His bed was more comfortable than yours, and the heat radiating off his body made you feel even warmer.
But, once again, you lost some of that heat. So gradually, you got closer to Steve, to a point where he unconsciously threw an arm around you, radiating even more heat, and finally making you feel comfortable. His scent was also intoxicating, making you feel even more comfortable than before.
The next morning you woke up, laid out on the large bed. Steve wasn't next to you, so you got up and headed out into the hallway, walking around the large penthouse trying to find him. Finally, you did.
Steve was in the workout room, lifting some weights when you walked in. You, of course, couldn't help but admire his shirtless figure. Soon enough though, you were knocked out of your trance when he set the dumbbells down and sat up to see you, standing in the doorway, lightly smiling. He smiled back, "Hey sweetheart," he began and got up from where he was, heading over to you, your stomach began erupting in butterflies from the nickname. "How did you sleep?"
"Very, very well." You admitted, "What about you?" You asked as he grabbed his water bottle, taking a quick sip.
"Wonderfully, thank you for asking." He smirked. "A lot better with you to be honest."
"Is that so?" You asked and he smiled.
"It is so."
"Then I may just have to do that more often." You got slightly playful, which of course rubbed off on him. He lightly smiled back.
"Is it really weird and cliche to say I met you two days ago and it literally feels like I've known you forever?" he asked and walked towards you.
"It's cliche, maybe," You admitted, "But not weird I guess." You lightly said. You had managed to feel the same way, this man had really managed to make his way into your heart and open you like a book in two days.
"We should grab breakfast," he said as you two began walking out. "I still have that meeting today, and as long as your up for it you can go shopping some, if not we can reschedule. Whatever you feel most comfortable with."
"Today's fine," You said, "I feel a lot better."
"Good," He said as you two sat down at the table again to begin a conversation. "The chef's making the same thing as yesterday, without the pancakes," he said and picked up his coffee, "Unless you want them, of course."
"No, it's just fine." You lightly smiled.
Later on that day, Steve said goodbye and left you with Kathrine, also known as Kat, to take you shopping. She was a tall-ish blonde, absolutely gorgeous and bubbly. "Hi, I'm Kat!"
"Y/N," You replied and smiled, shaking her hand.
"So Mr. Rogers put me in charge of taking you shopping today, do you have any idea where you would want to go?" She asked and smiled.
"No, not really." You said a little awkwardly, almost embarrassed.
"No problem," She kindly smiled, "We'll go a few different places." So that's what you did. A driver came to pick you two up, and she began talking and knowing more about you. "What was your style, or is your style?" She asked, turning her body in the all-black car to face you.
"When I was in high school I used to go thrift shopping a lot, would flip clothes and make them vintage."
"That's really cool!" She said and smiled, "We'll go to some vintage shops then."
"Well, as long as that's fine with Steve of course." I said, "I don't know if he has a personal style for women or not."
"Well, I don't think Mr. Rogers would mind. What we can do though, is look at some vintage tops for you, and maybe some classic skinny jeans to go with them. Fill up your closet with cute, chic, comfy clothes!" She clapped her hands. "This is so exciting!" She smiled. You nodded, slightly overwhelmed, but glad you were getting more interaction.
You arrived at a few of the stores on various side avenues Kat knew about. "Here we are," She said and hopped out, you going after her. You walked into various boutiques all your style. You tried on various large shirts, a few pairs of jeans, and liked them all, Kat agreed.
"How many outfits does Steve want me to buy?" You asked, briefly looking outside to see security and swallowing hard, still feeling somewhat awkward.
"At least 15," She said.
"15?" You asked, shocked. She nodded. "Jeez, that's a lot."
"Also at least ten dresses on top of that, cocktail dresses, for his various get-togethers and parties he has." You nodded, understanding. "So we'll go to about four or five other shops, get you all you need, a few pairs of shoes too, some makeup, hair products, whatever you need and we'll be set!" You nodded agreeing.
It had been three hours, and you had finally found 17 outfits, 10 dresses, 12 pairs of shoes, and various amounts of accessories and makeup, all of which were up to Steve's standards, according to Kat. Then you loaded back in the car and left to go back to the penthouse.
Once there, you were greeted with at least thirty bags and boxes, all filled with various clothes and accessories. "Mr. Rogers isn't home right now, he's stuck in the meeting," Kat told me, "He did want me to help you set these up in your closet though." You nodded as some of his other assistants and butlers began placing your bags in the closet, Kat leasing you there.
You two began unloading things, sorting them by type of clothing, and in color order. It took about half an hour but once you were done, Steve was back and Kat was off. "Hello, doll," he lightly smiled and walked into your bedroom. "Sorry the meeting went over, it wasn't supposed to at all."
"It's fine," You lightly smiled back.
"How did shopping go with Kat?" He asked and took off his suit coat, placing it on the armchair.
"Very well, thank you." You sat down on your bed, as he sat in the chair.
"Wonderful," He said and pulled out his phone briefly, "What would you like for dinner?" He asked next.
"Whatever you would like, I don't care," You said honestly.
"Is steak fine?" he asked looking up. You nodded.
"Steve?" You asked and his head shot up to look at you, "Is there any way I could maybe move into your room with you?" You asked awkwardly.
"Of course doll," He lightly smiled and placed his hand on your knee. "Your walk-in closet is adjacent to the room anyways." You nodded.
"Your scent also helps me sleep." You lightly murmured. He lightly chuckled.
"Your does for me too," He sighed, "Last night was the best sleep I had gotten in a while." You lightly nodded once again. Then we went silent for a few moments, not awkward, just peaceful. "Why don't we go and sit down for dinner?" You nodded and got up, following him once again to the dining room. There, sitting on the table were two glasses of wine, making you a little bit nervous. You had of course never had wine before, you were 18 when you were locked up. Steve took a sip of his, as you took a sip of yours, a bitter look on your face following. He began lightly laughing.
"Hey," you lightly called out, "I've never had this before." He lightly smiled.
"You'll get used to it," He responded, "It takes some time." You lightly looked up at him a while, taking in his beautiful blue eyes and strong jawline. "What are you looking at?" He asked and lightly chuckled.
"Oh, um nothing," You said, snapped out of your trance and not very conscious, "You're just very handsome-" You stopped yourself immediately turning red as he began chuckling more, "Or um, you are handsome but I didn't I um-"
"It's alright doll," he took another sip of his wine, "You're quite gorgeous as well." You began blushing even more. "You're also bright red at the moment-"
"Oh shut up," You lightly laughed as he did too.

Synergy
Dear Inspector, Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from being a Player. Hey! Laugh all you want, but I had to try. With no rules down here, who's to say that I can't resign? Anyway, my reasons are simple: I'm neither a gamer nor a hero. You got the wrong person for the job. Sure, the pay is decent and I could pretty much live like a king if, you know, I wasn't so busy trying to survive. I have major concerns about the demonic dagger bound to my soul too. Come to think of it, I've never asked to be transported to this fantasy land either and would like you to return me home, thank you very much. I don't want supernatural powers, I don't want to complete quests after quests, and I don't want to be your test subject anymore. What? I'm not whining, you're whining. Stop making excuses and let me leave already. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope you'll find a better replacement after I'm gone for good. Sincerely,Randel, the Mad Painter What to expect from Synergy: --> Some GameLit elements are presented subversively. If you want the protagonist to “play the game” properly, this might not be the story for you.--> No filler chapters; the story's structure is already plotted out. It's going to have six story arcs.--> Character development happens slowly, over many chapters. Don't expect a perfect protagonist right off the bat.--> Some romance, but it will never be the main focus.--> Humor and dark elements in equal measure, but not to the extent that I’d label this story as “Comedy” or “Grimdark”. ... and lots and lots of Author's Notes. See you on the other side of the portal!

Transported to another world, with a system that lets you take your fate into your own hands. Inside a dungeon, who knows how far away from human civilization, where the only way out is through. Join Noah in his desperate struggle and find out what this new world has in store for him. I am REALLY bad at synopses. What I will aim for in my story: 1. Logical choices 2. Good character development ( first story, might mess it up :D ) 3. I have epic plans for the future (not an actual aim but just saying :D ) What I will avoid like the plague: 1. Characters' IQ suddenly dropping just to further the story. 2. Whimpy main character 3. Stupid situations that can be avoided by basic communication and clearing things up. All in all, no generic trash anime protagonist and stereotypes. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
