《The Compound》Chapter 3

You woke up the next morning sleeping the best you had in years, literally. The guest bedroom was insanely comfortable and set to the right temperature. So you got out of bed, grabbed a sweater, and headed down to the dining room where Steve was already sitting at the head of the table, coffee, and newspaper in hand. "Morning." He lightly smiled at you, looking up to see your partially tangled bed head and still tired face.
"Good morning." You lightly smiled back. This lifestyle was definitely new to you, but gradually over the past 12 hours, you had grown to accept it and really not mind it.
"How did you sleep?" He asked, placing the newspaper down and taking a sip of his coffee.
"Great," You responded and he smiled.
"I'm glad," He said, "I wasn't sure what you wanted to drink but breakfast should be ready in the next 5 minutes."
"Thank you," You lightly sighed, "And water is just fine for me."
"Alright," he said and pulled out his phone, typing a few things, and within minutes one of his butlers came and gave you a glass.
"Thank you." You told him and took a sip.
"So I took the next three days off to help you acclimate to all this as well as the world," He said and lightly smiled again, "But tomorrow I have one meeting for about two hours. One of my assistants, Kathrine, will take you shopping for some new clothes. Whatever you want is yours." He smiled and took another sip of coffee and you gave a slight nod.
Then, just as he said, the food came in. There was a large plate of eggs, pancakes, bacon, fruit, every breakfast food imaginable. They were set down, and you each began to grab some food for your plates.
As you began eating, flavor exploded in your mouth. Steve noticed the look on your face, as you hadn't tasted good food like this in years. He chuckled a little. "I take it you like it?" You nodded and began eating some more.
This only sparked Steve's concern about the conditions in The Compound but he knew now was surely not the time to ask you, you still needed time to grow trust in him and to alter your lifestyle. "Please, eat all you'd like." he offered with a light smile.
So you didn't eat more than two servings but did eat quite a bit. Not more than the average person, but it still made Steve pity you, as he began understanding what you endured with no contact to the outside world.
"Here, I have something to show you." Steve lightly smiled and got out of his seat. You followed as he led you through a few hallways and down to a large room at the end. He opened the large mahogany doors for a ginormous library to appear.
Books upon books were stacked on the countless shelves, the ceilings must have been at least 30 feet high, with two floors and a grand wooden staircase at one end. Your mouth opened as you looked around the extravagant room. You highly doubted one person could read this many books in a lifetime. "This is the library," He said and lightly smiled, placing his hands on his hips, "We didn't have enough time last night to hit this room, or the indoor pool, or the deck. But we can do those later. Just thought I showed this to you now." You slowly nodded your head.

"This is incredible." You finally admitted and he lightly chuckled.
"It really is," he said and smiled, looking around the room like you were, "Just so you know, come in here any time you'd like. And take any book you wish."
"Really?" You gasped and looked at him, he stood there smiling back. "T-thank you, Steve."
"It's no problem at all, whatever is mine is now yours." You were still taken aback by this all. You had only known this man 24 hours, he had bought you in fact, and now he was sharing everything in his life with you.
"Steve?" You asked, him quickly putting his full attention to you, "I have a question."
"Fire away," He offered with a kind smile.
"Who are you exactly?" His face went to a confused expression, "As in what did you do to get all of this?"
"Oh," he laughed, "I'm Steve Rogers, sweetheart." Your breathing hitched, getting caught in your windpipe. The Steve Rogers? You asked yourself.
"T-the Avenger?" You asked again and he nodded. "Like, the incident, rebuild post-war, Avengers?" He nodded again. "Oh, alright." You nodded.
"I know, it even takes me a while for it to completely sink in." He agreed. But of course, you knew about this man. When you were in elementary school the team was formed, and in middle school, the battle was fought, formally known as the Thanos Tragedy, but everyone called it the incident. You were one of the very few extremely lucky people, where no one if your family died. Most people had at least one member who lost their life.
That being said The Avengers also rebuilt the entire world after the atrocity. It was kind of like making up for their mistakes, and now they were like legends. And they were clearly treated like them too. "What about you?" He asked and leaned against one of the cabinets.
"What?" You asked and looked away from where your fingers lightly skimmed some of the spins of various books on the shelves. "What about me?"
"Just tell me everything about you," he said and walked over to a group of armchairs, you followed sitting down across from him, a wooden coffee table in the middle with glass in the center, a beautiful brown and beige rug with an elaborate tapestry underneath the two of you.
"Oh um," You began and nervously rubbed your neck.
"Or at least everything you want to tell me. Just go at whatever rate you feel most comfortable." He lightly smiled.
"Alright," You began and intertwined your fingers together, as he leaned back in his chair. "I'm from a small town in Indiana. My dad was a farmer there, until the incident," You could see Steve stiffen, "But, his farm actually got bought out by um, you, and so he was able to maintain his business, it grew, and we kept half of the profits."
"What's the name of the farm?" He asked, intrigued.
"Oh, um, it's called Benson's, after my great-grandfather who started it all, although I'm sure you own hundreds if not thousands of properties around the world, probably never heard of it." You said awkwardly, not wanting to make too many assumptions about Steve, especially in front of him.
"Actually, I have," he lightly smiled, "It runs like a cash cow, no pun intended." You both lightly smiled.
"Yeah, we lived really well off."
"Have you seen your family since?" He asked again, all his attention on you.

"Uhm, nope." You awkwardly smiled.
"Did they not allow you to see them?"
"Um," You began, "I-I don't know if I should answer that-"
"Just tell me," he nagged, "Did they not?" You shook your head, confirming his guess. He lightly nodded. "Well we'll go see them soon, I promise." Your head lifted up as your eyes went wide in extreme anticipation. You would be able to see your family again, after 8 years, of course, you were thrilled.
"A-are you sure?" You asked and lightly smiled.
"Of course I'm sure," he smiled back, "And if you don't want me to meet them just yet then I understand completely, I was just hoping I could."
"Yeah, totally," You responded and he lightly smiled again, "I mean you are my Alpha so I'm sure they would want to meet you." You noticed how Steve visibly became uncomfortable when you mentioned Alpha, giving you a hint that regardless of his nature, he didn't want to be associated much with being one.
"I'll plan our trip for a few weeks out, how about that?" he asked.
"Yeah, sure, as long as it's not too much to ask for I-"
"Of course it's not," He got up and squatted down next to you, so you two were at eye level, "Anything that will make you happy, consider it done. I want you to feel the most comfortable and spoiled as you possibly can be." He said and you smiled.
"Alright," You said, already feeling more comfortable with Steve. It was a mixture of his scent and kindness, you thought. But there seemed to be another factor, somewhere lingering in the air. You felt okay, calm with him, which you hadn't felt in years.
"Why don't we finish the tour?" He asked and you nodded. So that's what you two did. He showed you the large indoor pool, featuring a wave-current so you could easily swim and increase your muscles while doing so. He also shows you the gorgeous outside deck, with numerous patio chairs and another pool overlooking the skyline. You could tell he was a humble man, but one who loved to entertain. The entire place etched with the countless get-togethers he had had, that you would soon be apart of. Then you heard his phone ringing.
He reached in his pocket, effortlessly getting it out, and quickly looked at the screen, sighing. "I apologize doll, I gotta take this." You nodded and lightly smiled as he quickly jogged his way to the door, so he could answer. "What the hell do you need?" He asked and shut the door behind him, leaving you to overlook the city.
You reached the end of the balcony, which was covered with a glass railing that went to your stomach. You looked down and noticed how prosperous this place was, even with a population of less than half it was when you last visited here over a decade ago.
Everything was new and strange. You had some sort of jitter within you, a tingling sensation when you were around Steve. You were pretty sure it was his scent, which always sent shivers down your spine. But you also wondered why he had chosen you. He could buy the entire organization of Omegas if he really wanted to, have as many as he pleased. Each of them laid out for when he wanted to use one. But no, he chose you.
You also wondered how much he bought you for. You had heard bidding started at one million, but you never thought yourself to be worth more than that. You were one of few Omegas, but a man of his status could get whoever he wanted.
You also thought about the countless women who probably dropped to their knees when they saw him. How any woman would die, maybe literally, to be with him. But you, little old you, were chosen to be his. And you really did want to give it a shot, you just weren't sure where to start.
Just as you were deep in your thoughts, the smell of wood hit you again, and you heard his feet on the concrete patio. "It's really nice out here isn't it?" He asked and came up to the railing next to you.
"Yeah, it's absolutely beautiful." You added on.
"Like you?" he smirked, looking down to make eye contact. You were probably a little less than a foot shorter than him, your head running up to his lower shoulder.
"That was very cheesy." You two lightly laughed, "But pretty cute."
"You better get used to cheesy jokes missy," He argued, "There are a lot more coming your way."
"Oh, I will most definitely prepare for those."
"Sarcastic now, are we?" He cocked a brow and smiled.
"Maybe just a little."
"I like a little sarcasm," He looked from you to the skyline, then back to you, "Adds some character." You nodded in agreement. "Why don't we go inside? Have some lunch, maybe watch or read something?"
"Alright," You responded and lightly smiled. You two walked inside and sat down in the huge living room.
"So, what's your favorite genre of movies?" He asked you, you two sitting next to each other.
"I grew up loving Stars Wars," You told him and lightly smiled, propping your feet up on the couch.
"Star Wars I hear?" He asked and you nodded your head, "Then Star Wars it is."
"Unless you want to watch something else of course-"
"No, actually I really like Star Wars," He light smiled, "And please, don't second guess dear. These next few days are all about you, making you feel more comfortable." He lightly smiled and you nodded.
So that's exactly what you two did. The chef made you some sandwiches and soup for lunch which you ate while watching movies. Gradually, however, it went from focusing on the film to a conversation between the two of you.
Soon, however, you felt an all too familiar, awkward feeling in your stomach. "Steve?" You asked and sat up, him looking at you, his face changing it's expression to one of concern when he saw you, "Where's the restroom?" He pointed right down the hall, so you got up, and began to feel some coming up.
Naturally, you practically launched yourself down the hall and into the bathroom, where all your food made its way into the toilet. Steve was there in less than a few seconds, holding your hair up and rubbing your back in slow circular motions. As soon as you were done, you flushed the toilet and quickly washed your face. "Are you alright?" He asked, placing his hand on your forehead, his Alpha instincts kicking in.
"Yeah," you sighed, "Just not feeling well I guess." He nodded, "I'm sorry for calling off the rest of the movie, but could I maybe take a nap?"
"Yes, of course." He lightly smiled and led you back to your room. You got changed in the bathroom and climbed under the covers. "If you need anything, I'm one call away, alright? Just holler and I'll be here." You nodded your head and soon drifted off to sleep.
Steve resided shortly after in his room, which was right next to yours, wanting to stay as close as possible. Just then, as he sat on the edge of his California king bed, his phone began ringing. He pulled it up, displaying Bucky's name, so of course, he answered. "Hey Buck, how's your Omega?" He asked,
"She was fine until just about an hour ago. She began throwing up, and is running a temperature." Just then, Steve's breathing stopped.
"Mine's doing the same." He stated, slight suspicion laced in his voice. "I'll call a doctor soon, she's sleeping and I don't want to disturb her."
"I'm gonna do the same over here, I hope it's not anything too serious."
"Alright man, I'll call you back. I gotta contact the doctor and check on my Omega, make sure she's fine."
"Sounds good man, call me back when you can." He said and they both hung up.
