《Fragile Minds ━━ C. DANVERS ✓》eight.

The woman knew everything that Carol was talking about was going to help them in one way or another, but the more that she talked about her in her new life as a Kree. There were so many things that Poppy wanted to correct her about, but she knew that that would just raise more questions than she wanted to. So, even as they drove and were given access to the NASA USAF Facility, Poppy knew that she was going to have to face the music.
That she was going to have to help Carol realize exactly who she was and what she was going to have to do in order to get what she wanted. Carol was determined to get answers to every question she had, but Poppy was sure that the woman wasn't going to want to hear what it was that they were going to tell her. She wasn't going to want to hear the truth about Carol Danvers, because she had been living under a completely different persona than she had been born with. Then one that Poppy had fallen in love with.
A heavy sigh left her lips as Nick pulled into the garage, and Nick began to tell Carol that she was going to have to wear a S.H.I.E.L.D cap, as well as remove the flannel around her waist. The two of them continued to talk as Poppy pulled out her wallet and began to search for her P.E.G.A.S.U.S ID badge, but as she glanced over her shoulder, her eyes landed on one of the authorization men that approached them.
Carol and Nick walked over toward the railing and glanced out at all of the ships that P.E.G.A.S.U.S. had, and Poppy smiled slightly as she remembered her days as a pilot. But she couldn't help but stare at Carol as she stood there, and there were things that she wanted to talk to her about, things that she wanted to reveal. But it was neither the time nor the place for a conversation such as that.

⠀⠀⠀⠀ "How can I help you?" One of the security men spoke as he approached them, and his eyes wandered over the three of them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "We're agents of S.H.I.E.L.D," Nick replied to him, and Poppy had a feeling that they weren't going to get very far with Nick handing over his Level 03 Clearance badge. They would've gotten a lot further if Poppy was able to hand over both of the IDs that she had, but that wasn't an option.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "We're looking for a woman named Lawson," Carol chimed in as she stared at the three men in front of her.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "A Dr. Wendy Lawson," Nick added, and Poppy kept her mouth shut.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ The security man glanced between the two of them as they replied, and his eyes landed on Poppy fo a few seconds to see that they both shared the same expression. Both of them knew the truth about what had happened, and neither of them was going to correct them. Even when Carol piped up again, "Do you know her?"
⠀⠀⠀⠀ The man glanced back down at Nick's badge for a split second, before folding it back up into the case and handing it back to him, "Follow me."
The three of them were led into a room, and Poppy knew that that was as far as they were going to go. She held her hands in her lap as she glanced around the room, before realizing that there was a finger scanner on the wall. She narrowed her eyes at it as Nick and Carol continued to have a small little conversation. Poppy wanted nothing more than to stand up and make her way over to the device and open the door, knowing that her clearance and prints were still in the system.

But even as she sat there, she could hear the airwaves of a ghost making their way into the room and she glanced over to see one standing in the corner of the room. The two of them stared at each other for a few seconds, before Poppy inhaled deeply and tilted her head against the wall. What she wouldn't give to have Fayre there to help her get through everything that her mind had to deal with as she sat in the room with the other two.
Poppy then got her attention grabbed by Nick and Carol as they both began to snoop around the room and when she realized what it was that Nick was doing, Poppy put a stop to it. She stood up and walked in front of him, glancing between the other two in the room, before she pressed her thumb against the scanner. Both Carol and Nick watched as she did and the device lit up green. Poppy flashed the two of them a grin before they pushed through the door.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "And how the hell did that work?" Fury questioned as he stared at the dark-haired woman that stood in front of them, and Poppy gave him a small smile.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "It's above your Clearance, but I used to work here," Poppy answered him as she glanced between the two of them and shrugged her shoulders. She gave Nick a wink, before she walked out of the doorway, and she could hear him mutter one thing as they all walked through the door and began to make their way over to an elevator.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Why didn't you do that earlier?"

8 158Shadowrun: Blake Island School of Magic
It's a high tech, low life. It's the Seattle Metroplex in 2074. It rises like a steel and concrete cancer out of the earth. Poverty is rampant, corruption is everywhere, crime is out of control, corporations basically control everything, the old United States is fractured, magic has come back and now it turns out that humanity has been joined by elves, dwarves, orks and trolls. The old world ended but the rent is still due. Life goes on. You'd be surprised what people can adapt to, especially if they don't have a choice. One of the places where life goes on is just west of Seattle. Surrounded by the waters of the Puget Sound is an island. On that island is the Blake Island School of Magic. A decade ago it was known for producing some of the most talented awakened in the world. That reputation was hijacked by the wealthy corporate elite who now park their teenage children there. And since it's a boarding school, their parents mostly forget about them. Three young people, who are certainly not wealthy or elite, are chosen this year to attend this school of magic in hopes of revitalizing their reputation for talent. One from the ash drifts of the Puyallup Barrens, one from the most densely populated slum hive in the world and one from prison. This is their story. -- This story is set in the Shadowrun universe. If you're not familiar with Shadowrun, it mostly tells the stories of deniable mercenaries called shadowrunners in a cyberpunk dystopia. Instead of telling another story solely about shadowrunners, this story will tell the tale of young people navigating a world that is indifferent to them at best and actively hostile at worst. Shadowrunners will be in the story and we'll see them operate, but they won't be its main focus. This story originally began in 2017 as a passion project and continues to this day on the Somethingawful.com forums. The unedited version is over a million words strong. There are currently seven books in this series and I am currently in the process of editing them. If you read this story then you won't lack for content. -- The Topps Company, Inc. has sole ownership of the names, logo, artwork, marks, photographs, sounds, audio, video and/or any proprietary material used in connection with the game Shadowrun.
