《Memories》I - One Year Later

Ming Xi laughed as her friend Xinghe tried to drink another shot of vodka, then looked like he was about to throw up. They were at the club down the block near their school, enjoying Li Zhen's birthday party. The place was packed full of students from Duyan University. The tables were scattered of empty glasses, the music so loud it was hard to get a conversation going. Not that talking was anyone's priority right now, everyone was too busy dancing and singing at the top of their lungs to the music and just wanting to enjoy the night. The lights were making her dizzy as she finished the last of her cocktail. She glanced at her watch but couldnt see the time because of the darkness. She sighed, Whatever. I'll just enjoy myself just for tonight.

"San...I mean Ming Xi!", her friend Li Zhen who looked like she was about to fall on her face wobbled her way towards their table. She looked amazing in a simple black sequined dress, tan leather jacket and heels. A total 180 from how she used to dress before. This was after she switched to another major - from Nutrition to Fashion. Behind her, a tall handsome young man followed, holding her elbow trying to keep her on her feet.

Ming Xi smiled at her as she made space for her friend to sit down beside her. She flopped down on the leather couch and started fanning herself. She knows she wasnt looking bad herself, dressed in a white cropped tee, black leather skirt and heels.

"I think I'm drunk", her friend said. Ming Xi laughed and handed her the bottle of water she was holding. She turned and eyed Ming Xi. "You're not having fun?" The handsome guy sat across them and started playing with his phone.

"Of course I am. I just don't want to tire myself out. I have a audition tomorrow." Ming Xi proudly said. She was the first in her batch to get a audition invite even before graduation. She had enrolled to a acting school and she realized it was something she liked. Her parents decided that it was best for her anyways and didnt force her to go back to her old school And the medical bills from her accident didn't really help.

Li Zhen started taking off her jacket to reveal the sexy tube dress. "Gosh, it's so hot here! Sanchai! I dare you, please get Xinghe off that dance floor before he embarrasses himself!"

Ming Xi frowned, "Sanchai who? Who are you talking to?" she looked around to see if there was anyone else on their table. Aside from her and the handsome guy who looked so engrossed with his game, there was no one else on their table.

A look of brief surprise crossed Li Zhen's face only to be replaced by nonchalance, "Oh nothing! I just said weed! Like an expression! You know.. like darn..", as she drank from the water bottle nervously. "Oh by the way, his name is Kyle. He goes to the same department as me." She pointed at the guy, changing the subject. The guy looked up and smiled at them, then went back to playing on his phone.

Ming Xi frowned, this wasnt the first time she heard the name Sanchai. Sometimes Xinghe calls her that and always passes it off as her nickname.

I guess it makes sense, I cant remember a lot after that damned accident, she thought.

She frowned as she remembered what happened over a year ago. Her parents said she was in a car accident but didnt want to burden her and fill her in with the details. She can barely remember anything at all. She was told she was in a coma for 3 months. And another 3 months into rehab. She had always wondered what her life was like before that. She couldn't remember anything at all, the doctor said it was a temporary amnesia and most probably caused by events that traumatized her. After trying to remember anything, she came point of just letting go and start with new memories. She and her parents moved to Sanya, far away from their old house. She had enrolled to a arts school with a new major - Acting. Her friends, Xinghe and Li Zhen, who had always been there for her since the moment she woke up from her coma, had also decided to join her in the new school. Xinghe though has dropped out from school and is now helping his father manage their business.

"Hey, Ming Xi! Don't space out on me!" Li Zhen's voice interrupted her thoughts. She smiled at her friend.

"Li Zhen, I'm going to head out first. I have a early call time tomorrow for the audition. And I still have to continue memorizing some stuff..."

"Pssshh... You memorized those already! Here, drink!"

Ming Xi smiled, cant say no to her friend, it is her birthday after all. Two vodka shots and one large bottle of martini later, she found herself dancing with her friends and just enjoying the night away.
