《SEA GREEN MEETS GOLD (N.M. & P.J.)》Chapter 7: Dead Ends

A few more weeks passed by as the trip continued. The trio had stopped at countless hotels on their journey. The search for werewolves proved to be more difficult than what was originally anticipated.
Klaus found a few leads but they always led to a dead end.
Arriving at yet another hotel room, Percy drifted off to sleep.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Percy walked through camp. Her heart beat erratically as she looked at the bodies surrounding her.
They're all dead.
It's all my fault.
She felt guilt rise in her at the surroundings. The sea green eyed girl couldn't help the thoughts that entered her mind.
'Maybe, if I was faster I could have saved them. Maybe, no one would have gotten hurt, if I was stronger.'
The demigod was plagued by 'what if's.'
She felt responsible for all the deaths in the war. She saw all their faces, their eyes empty. The girl couldn't help but wish she died with them.
All Percy could think was, 'It's all my fault.'
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
The hybrid heard Percy screaming and sped to her door. He had an extra key for their rooms, so he opened it.
Klaus threw the door open and was a bit surprised to see that the demigod wasn't being attacked. She was thrashing in her bed as a nightmare took over her mind.
The blond rushed forward and tried to avoid her hits. She was punching and kicking in her sleep.
Klaus cursed as she continued thrashing around.
Without thinking, he gently but firmly grabbed her arms and held her close. "Percy, wake up."
Her body calmed down for a moment. Then, she started flailing her limbs again. He felt her hit his arm and almost winced.
Stefan entered the room, since Klaus left the door open. "What's going on?"

The hybrid kept his attention on the demigod. He tried entering her mind, but it was like there was a wall blocking him from doing so.
Suddenly, Percy screamed so loud, she woke herself up.
Although she awoke, Percy wasn't aware of her surroundings. She could only see the fallen bodies of campers. The blood mixed with the tears. She could only hear the voice in her head saying, 'It's all my fault.'
The sentence played over and over, in a never ending cacophony of thought. It felt so real. The green eyed girl felt as though she was experiencing it all over again.
She raised her hand to pull at her hair as she tried to dismiss her thoughts. The demigod squeezed her eyes shut, thinking, 'Get out of my head.'
When Percy pulled herself out of it, her body slackened. She was overwhelmed by exhaustion. Her heart still beat rapidly in her chest. The raven haired girl was only vaguely aware of the voices around her.
"What?" She croaked out. Her throat felt dry and sore. The demigod hated how weak her voice sounded.
Stefan repeated himself, "Are you okay?"
Percy nodded, not trusting her voice to speak again.
"Are you-?"
The raven haired beauty softly said, "Please, leave."
The vampire nodded and left, closing the door.
Percy focused on her breathing.
"Do you want to talk about it?" The hybrid asked her gently.
She turned her head to look at him. Percy expected to witness a face of pity or judgement. The sea green eyed girl was thankful to only see compassion and understanding in his dark blue-green eyes. "I get nightmares sometimes too," he admitted.
Percy didn't expect him to say that. For a second, the burdened demigod didn't feel so alone.

The daughter of Poseidon simply shook her head. She didn't feel like discussing the scenes that took over her mind.
He nodded. Klaus gently let go of her and stood from his seat. She watched as the original grabbed a bottle of water from the mini fridge. He silently returned to her side and handed it to her.
Percy tried to send him a small smile.
She twisted the cap and took a sip. The sea green eyed girl saw Klaus walk out of the room. Her eyebrows furrowed when she noticed he didn't close the door.
A few moments later he returned with a mountain of blankets. The hybrid closed the door and made his way over to the couch.
When he felt Percy's eyes on him, Klaus spoke, "Get some sleep, love." The softness of his tone mixed so well with his accent.
He laid down on the couch.
"Thank you," the demigod whispered.
Klaus nodded and he repositioned himself on the sofa.
The raven haired girl closed her eyes and let sleep take over. For the first time in a while, Percy felt safe.
She awoke a few hours later. Percy looked out the window to see that it was now bright outside.
Her gaze landed on the hybrid, who was a bit too big for the couch he was laying on. One of his legs was sticking up on the edge of the seat. His right arm hung off the side of the couch. The blankets messily strewn across him and his eyes were closed.
Adorable.
Percy noticed how peaceful Nik looked when he was sleeping.
She walked to the bathroom and brushed her teeth. The girl ran her fingers through her hair as she looked in the mirror. Percy placed her bag in the bathroom, so that her clothes would be there for when she took a shower. Before she got ready though, she walked back to the hybrid.
She kneeled down next to him and gently shook his shoulder. "Nik." He opened his eyes to be greeted by an ethereal beauty in front of him. Percy resembled an actual goddess. Her eyes drew him in each time he saw them. He loved how easily he could actually picture the sea when he looked into her eyes. As an artist, he appreciated witnessing beauty in the world. And Percy Jackson was stunning.
She had a soft smile painted across her face as she looked at him. The hybrid couldn't help but think it was because of him.
"Get ready. We have to go follow that new lead. Maybe, we'll find an actual werewolf this time." Percy said as she wiggled her eyebrows and sent him a playful grin.
Klaus chuckled.
I love his dimples. She couldn't help but think to herself.
"Are you actually enjoying this little trip, love?" He questioned with a smug smile.
Percy shrugged, "I've definitely had worse adventures."
The raven haired beauty stood up. "Now get ready, Nikkie. You're slacking too much." The demigod couldn't even say the words without laughing. She was telling someone else to stop slacking.
The hybrid rolled his eyes and got up from the couch. He was usually the one encouraging Stefan and Percy to have more enthusiasm about the trip.
The sea green eyed girl sent him one last grin before she walked back to the bathroom to get ready.

Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
