《Lover's Day: Izuku Midoriya x Reader x Bakugou》Chapter 7: Heartbreak

After the Bakugou incident, you were really glad you weren't going to school today. You briefly pondered if he would get detention for the desk he damaged.
"5:40." You said, glancing at your clock. You packed up your things and started walking to Midoriya's. * knock knock *
"I'll get it!" You heard his muffled voice yell from behind the door. The door opened and you were left facing a very unguarded-looking boy. He was adorned in a plain white shirt, a pair of blue pajama pants complete with tiny All Mights on it, and a cozy looking green robe. It was unexplainably becoming. He happily greeted you, ruffling his damp hair with a towel. It was so overwhelmingly cute that you had to fight back a delighted squeal. "Hey, F/N." He said. "How was your day?"
"Good." You nodded, your smile refusing to wane even a little.
"Here are the notes from today." He said, handing them to you. "I copied them over so you wouldn't have to write it all out."
"Aw. You didn't have to do that. Thank you, Izuku."
"Is that all you needed?" He asked, eyebrows raised.
"Actually... Since I'm here, do you want to study with me?"
"Sure! Come in." He beamed in a jolly way. You obeyed, noticing how his energy always managed to brighten your mood. "My room's this way." He said, leading you down the hall.
"Oh, who's this?" A woman asked, obviously his mother. She had his exact hair, eyes, and youthful round face. "I'm F/N. Nice to meet you." She gave you a funny, but friendly look. "Nice to meet you too." She replied.
"We're going to study, mom." He called to her as you slid into his bedroom. If you weren't ready for his hero pajamas, you certainly weren't ready for this. Beneath the foot of his double bed was a large All Might area rug. Posters of every famous hero garnished the whole wall. You looked to your left- "AAGH!" You shrieked.
"Are you okay? What's wrong?" Izuku asked. You blinked, terribly startled. The giant you saw next to you was just an obscenely large poster of All Might. You laughed out loud. "I'm sorry. That poster's so big that I thought it was real."
"Yeah." He said, embarrassment in his voice. "I... He... uh..." He stumbled over his words, probably regretting letting a girl see his room. "I always aspired to be a hero like him." He managed to say before blushing.
"That shouldn't be too hard for you." You replied, still inspecting his room. "After all, your powers are really similar- Oh my gosh! You have a figure of Thundersteel!" You exclaimed with excitement, picking up the small action figure delicately. "He was always my favorite... besides All Might of course." You added, knowing that's what he wanted to hear.

"I catch his show every night!" Izuku shouted, blatantly unveiling his nerdy side to you. "Me too!" You admitted right back. "We should study really hard now so we can watch it tonight!" He agreed fervently, sitting back on his bed to get his notes. "You can have the desk if you want." He offered.
"This is fine." You said plopping next to him. His unkempt hair bounced from the reverberation. Nearly 2 hours of quiet focus passed. His mother poked in with a study snack for the two of you: home-made hot chocolate. "Wow. Thanks Mrs. Midoriya!"
"I wasn't sure how many marshmallows you would want so I brought the whole bag." She set the tray carefully on the night stand. You could see where Midoriya's sweet tendencies came from.
"That's so nice of you. I love marshmallows."
"Thanks mom." Izuku placated politely as she closed the door behind her.
"I just had a fun study idea." You blurted. "Let's quiz each other. And when you get the right answer you get a marshmallow." He agreed that it sounded like fun.
"Ok. So what is the main inhibitor of a telekinetic quirk?" You asked.
"Vision loss." He stated.
"Wow. You answered that quick."
"Well that's the kind of quirk my mom has. Or something similar at least. She told me she can't use her quirk when she can't see what she's lifting."
"Ooh. That's cool. Your mom can move objects. So that must mean your dad-"
"He breathes fire." You shut your mouth in confusion. You were going to guess that Izuku acquired his quirk from his father but were sorely mistaken.
"So your mom lifts things, your dad breathes fire, and you... punch stuff..." You concluded in a perplexed fashion. He fell silent. "Izuku, that's kind of weird." You raised an eyebrow at him.
"Oh... well- I... uh..." He mumbled at his cocoa, eyes wide. 'Oh...' You thought, realizing your faux pas. 'That must not be his biological father...' You decided to drop it before becoming offensive.
"Anyway. You answered it right, so you get a marshmallow." You grabbed one from the bag. "Say aah." You ordered playfully. He wrinkled his nose in discomposure.
"Uh..." He pronounced, looking down at the comforter and shrinking away from your proximity.
"Close enough." You proceeded to intrude his lips with the fluffy white snack. "Now you ask me one."
"H'okay. Hau doh shkin-hurdnin' quarks eshcape puh-"
"PBBT!" You almost spat out your drink. "You can finish your mallow before you ask the question, Izuku!" He covered his mouth in embarrassment and heeded you.
"Sorry. How do skin hardening quirks escape police radars?"
"The iron elements in their skin cells throw off the magnets." You answered confidently.

"Right." He looked up to find you waiting expectantly with your mouth wide open. He delicately took the morsel between his fingers and fed it to you. You smiled.
"Okay. What are the 2 mechanisms of ice quirks?"
"Freezing and sublimation." He answered.
"Hm... That one was too easy for you. Trick shot time." You clambered off the bed with the bag of marshmallows. "Open wide." You chucked it in his direction, catching him off guard. It sprung off of his chin.
"Hey, I wasn't ready." He giggled. You went on to toss mallows at each other, forgetting all about the test material. About a half hour had passed before the sugar high ebbed. You flopped backward next to him with a huff.
"Time for a study break." You said, closing your eyes. You unwittingly brushed against him in an attempt to get comfortable. "Your robe is so soft, Deku!" You began stroking his back and arm. "It would make such a nice pillow." You giggled, laying your head on his forearm and rubbing against it like a cat. You gazed up at his face, which was upside-down from your angle. He scratched the back of his head, the color rising in his cheeks. 'You're doing it again.' You caught yourself flirting once more. 'Izuku is such a dear friend. Don't mess this up.' Your inner monologue had convinced you. You rolled off of his arm and on to your tummy to face him. "I'm sorry. That was rude of me. I'm distracting you. Do you want me to stop?"
"No!" He interjected. "That is... I mean... Our show will be on in a few minutes. We can study when it's over." The way he said "our show" gave you warm fuzzies. You rolled off the bed to grab the remote on his desk.
The segment was mostly stuff you already knew now that you were in cahoots with the prestigious hero community. During commercial an announcement came on about the Professional Hero Panel coming up in a few weeks. "Heroes from all over the globe are coming to share the secrets how they became true heroes."
"Oh yeah. I think I heard one of the teachers mention that this week. That definitely seems like your cup of tea, Izuku. Are you going?" You asked him.
"No." He said gloomily. "My mom is going out of town that weekend so she wouldn't be able to take me. Besides, I'm pretty sure you have to be a registered hero in order to buy tickets." His curls covered his eyes as he hung his head in deep disappointment.
"Yeah. I guess that makes sense. They can't have any villains showing up to hear their secrets I suppose." He nodded.
'They cant be cheap either." He added dismally. You decided to change the subject to pull him out of his funk.
"Oh. So Iida came to talk to me the other day." You said. His expression changed immediately. "He asked me what I think is romantic and he had some other odd questions too."
"You don't say." Izuku said with a nervous laugh.
"Everyone is acting super strange since this whole Lovers Day thing started."
"Speaking of Lovers Day, I wanted to ask you something." He paused.
"Mhm?" You urged in anticipation.
"Do you know uh... what kind of things Uraraka likes?" '...What did he just ask?' Your heart sank. Rejection washed over you, fast and strong. You felt the heat rise in your face. You cleared your throat, averting his gaze. 'Of course he likes Ochako. She's sweet and cute just like he is.'
"Oh, I dunno, Izuku. I guess the smart thing to do would be to read the romance novel she has and take ideas from there." You probably could have given him a better answer, but you had a knot in your throat and your tongue had turned to shoe leather.
"That's a great idea, F/N!" He proclaimed with dazzling elation. "Thanks!" You forced a tiny smile. Despite your disappointment, you could at least be grateful for his happiness. 'I supposed that's how a true friend would handle this.'
A sigh somehow managed to escape your lips. "It's getting late. I should probably get going."
"Oh." He said, his smile fading. "Ok." You scooped up your stuff up and made a beeline for the front door, Midoriya trailing shortly behind you. Before you opened the door you turned once more to face him. "Thanks again for the notes. ...I'll bring you a copy of Ochako's book tomorrow."
"You're the best, F/N." He said as you walked out the door.
"No, you are." You retorted with a wave. He allowed you one more bashful giggle before closing the door behind you.
Sleep did not come easy that night. Had you developed feelings for Midoriya? And if so, when did it start? You wondered whether this was your fault for telling everyone about Lovers Day. Maybe if you hadn't put the pressure on him to choose someone, you might have been able to get to know him better and things would have been different. You layed there, staring at the ceiling. A fantasy of Izuku sweetly confessing his feelings for you under the cherry blossoms lingered in your mind before you finally let the dream die. 'There are other guys in your class. You can still enjoy Lovers Day...'
