《Peridot x Human!Reader》Chapter 8 - Donuts and Hugs

Once Peridot had picked out and put on the clothes she liked, You decided that she looked really well in your clothes. You smiled to her and decided to invite her somewhere.
"Hey, Peri. Would you like to go get some donuts with me?" You asked. You thought you two were starting to get really close, so maybe she would feel comfortable leaving the house? The clothes disguised her well enough, you thought.
Peridot then looked at you in slight fear. "What if the Cryst- I mean.. Steven and his friends see me?" You tilted your head a bit at this, unknowing that the Crystal Gems were after Peridot in the first place. "What do you mean Peri? Why don't you want them to see you?"
Peridot then made a quick reel-back, remembering you had no clue about the entire situation she was in. She quickly made up a reason why it would be a problem. "Uh.. Well.. you see Steven's...'friends'..." She air quoted with her fingers. "I don't exactly get along with them well.. because..."
You looked at her skeptically, waiting for an answer. She decided to spill at least a little bit of truth. She didn't have to tell all of it, no, but at least enough to make sense to you. "They are like me, and...We just are not on agreeable terms.. trust me." She looked nervous, not wanting to say any more than she had to.
You noticed how uncomfortable she seemed talking about them, and you understood correctly that she was telling you that Steven's friends were also aliens. "Well that explains a lot and why Steven is always busy." You mumbled under your breath, taking this all in. You then smiled at her and nodded.

"Here, will this be better?" You grabbed your favorite beanie hat you had and a pair of big sunglasses, putting them on her. "There, they won't recognize you as easily if we run into them, and if you see them, we can get out of there. That sound good?" You asked.
She fumbled with the glasses and beanie at first, and then nodded. You then smiled and grabbed a second hat of yours, taking her by the hand and dragging her out of the house excitedly. "You're going to love donuts, i promise." You laughed. She gave a small smile back at you.
Once you made it to the Big Donut, you went up to the counter and said 'Hi' to Sadie. She greeted you in return, and then noticed your friend lagging behind you. "Who's this, (N)? A new friend of yours?" She wiggled her eyebrows at you and laughed a little.
You nodded happily and gently pulled Peridot in front of you as she made a small 'eep!' as you spoke. "This is Peridot!" Sadie smiled weakly as she waved to her. "Hi there, Peridot. What kind of donut do you like?"
"uhhh..." She marveled at all the different kinds she's never had, and seemed dumbstruck. She then looked up at you in question. You then answered the question she didn't ask. "How about i buy one of each and you can try them at home? sound good?" She then nodded at this and relaxed more.
Once you had bought the donuts, you decided to grab some hot tea as well and went on your way. Once you had reached your home, you set the donuts on the table and opened the box. "you can pick first, okay Peri?" as you smiled down at her. Peridot then scanned all of the Donuts, and then decided the glazed donut looked the safest, and picked it up gingerly. She looked up at you as she held the donut awkwardly. You nodded to her in approval to go ahead and tried it.

She bit into it graciously and then chewed it slowly. Her face went from confusion to delight and a small smile grazed her face as she looked up at you. "It's... Good..." She blushed slightly as she nibbled at her donut.
You decided on grabbing the chocolate glazed donut and stuck it in your mouth before landing on the couch lazily. You then pulled the donut out of your mouth and chewed on what you had bit off. You then patted the seat next to you, inviting Peridot to sit next to you. She took another bite as she sat down and spoke quietly. "(N).. why are you so nice to me?" She asked. See seemed upset by something, as if she was holding something back.
You looked at her, surprised by this gentle question and took the last bite of your donut before answering her. "Why wouldn't I be nice to you Peri?" She looked down, frown slightly prevalent in her face.
She then cleared her face better and looked up at you, smiling. "Thank you, (N)... I... Appreciate you." You then smiled back at her and gave her a gentle hug. She seemed to stiffen at this slightly, but relaxed into you soon after. "Of course, Peridot! you're my friend." You hugged a little tighter before she surprised you by giving you a small hug back with the hand that wasn't occupied by the donut.

The Voice of the World
Jason Elric used to be an ordinary college student living in the heart of San Francisco. He had a part time job, he played online games with friends he got along moderately well with, and he earned reasonably good grades. The worst he really had to worry about in life was turning in his coursework on time and not being late to class. Now, though? Now fighting for his life and running from a horde of giant frogs that want to make him their next meal is just another Tuesday. Thanks to a summoning ritual gone terribly right, Jason has found himself trapped in a world eerily similar to the role playing games games he used to play for fun. Unfortunately for the now ex-college student, everything happening around him is terrifyingly real and if he wants to survive, he’ll have to figure out how to exploit the system for his benefit before it’s too late. The Voice of the World is the first part of what is planned to be a multi-book, Isekai LitRPG story with crafting elements, set in the fantasy world known as Verdania. This is my first time posting online for public consumption, so bear with me as I work to find a style that people like. While I may occasionally write scenes that may deal with heavy concepts, expect this story to be primarily light hearted high fantasy. There will be a lot of common fantasy tropes involved, as this story got its start as a simple practice exercise, rather than any plan to actually post it. However, it’s grown on me, so I felt it’s worth sharing after all. Thus, if you’re looking for more serious/original/unusual stories, you might want to look elsewhere. For the rest of you, feel free to leave suggestions, as well as to point out grammar and spelling mistakes; I’ll do my best to make edits to correct them. I do my own editing currently, and it’s easy to miss things when you know what’s supposed to be there, so such call outs are highly encouraged. Content TLDR: No harems, probably no romance (unless it makes sense for the story later on) (it did, eventually), definitely no sex (keeping this PG-13 or close to it), limited profanity. Does/Will contain mixes of magic and technology (think Warhammer, Final Fantasy); copious amounts of blue tables; race, gender, and sexual equality concepts; crafting sequences; and (slightly, but not overbearingly) strong protagonists. If you don’t like these things, go elsewhere instead of downvoting people for content instead of writing quality. Update Time currently varies, due to personal injury, but the goal is 1/week on Wednesdays, with a possible smaller chapter on weekends if time/health permits.

8 170Humanity's End
Given a year to prepare by the mysterious ‘system’ for contact with the wider galaxy, humanity must work to ensure the Earth’s defense is ready to meet any challenge. Sadly, most of the world seems dedicated to tearing itself apart as the year-end deadline gets closer. The west is in barely contained Chaos, while the east descends into internal conflict and war. The Pillar Forts, one of the few successful projects of the United Nations headed by the United States, stand ready to defend humanity against any invasion that may come through the strange Connection Pillars that appeared on each continent. Massive steel and stone walls that surround the Connection Pillars. They are filled with deadly men and women trained in all manner of warfare, each trained in the newly acquired System with skills and magical abilities that they put to deadly purpose. Beside these brave warriors, tanks, helicopters, artillery and more stand ready to defend humanity at each of these powerful installations. But, can they overcome the disparity in levels and experience between themselves and the forces that threaten them and the rest of humanity? Main Characters Jessica Brown- A young African American girl. Her 18th birthday in Detroit was the same day the systems message appeared. She discovered she was Level 7, much higher than most of the rest of the world. Why she is blessed, or cursed, with the power she doesn’t know. But what she does know is that she rather likes the feeling that comes with manipulating magic. The week after her birthday, government workers started testing every person in the US in a massive census effort of skills and abilities. Jessica Brown found herself conscripted into the US Magical Corp, a new branch of the US Military, and shipped off to a Pillar Fort. Somewhere hot and muggy in her ancestors’ home of Africa. As she grows stronger, she finds she has some connection to the pillars. While everyone else sees beauty or danger when they look at the pillars, after connection is made all Jessica can see is a Tree. A tree the size of the entire universe. Isaka Smith - is a third generation American and farmer who just wants to be left alone. But she is dragged into the situation by events beyond her control. When people in her small town had to deal with rioters and looters after the system announcement, she rallied them to defend themselves, earning her a trait that the government found extraordinarily useful. After a visit to a local reservation, she finds herself conscripted to lead one of the many small support towns erected around the great pillar forts. Not near her old home, but in far-flung Africa. John McIntire, the “Fighting Bull” -The commander of the African Fort, but because of circumstances beyond his ability to contend with shortly after taking command after being re-activated from retirement, he finds communication with his chain of command increasingly difficult. The US government, hell, even the United Nations, seems to have fallen into complete and utter chaos. The African Union is embroiled in a bitter civil war just outside his door, and supposedly, most of the world governments are in similar situations. Meanwhile, John must do his best to be ready to facilitate diplomacy, or to match the hostile argument of whatever force might come through the pillar of light when the year timer finishes counting down. Can our heros defend Earth from outside threats, while it tares itself apart? Or will they need to rebuild from the ground up? DEDICATION: This story is dedicated to my father who passed away recently. Jim Holloway, you’ll be missed you old silverback gorilla. Love you dad. Always have, always will.
8 301The Supreme Cultivator
This story is a parody for xianxias, and some litRPG, where our protagonist, Bòhé chá, faces no problems at all in his life controlled by the evil author... Is the author actually evil? (This is not a rhetorical question, I'm actually curious.) PS : this is only written as a method of wasting time, so don't expect me to upload regularly. Edit : removed the LitRPG and replaced it with Satire since that is more accurate.
