《Fawn In The Dawn | Peeta Mellark》seventeen

"You loved the sunflowers." Peeta said out of the dead of night. I opened my eyes and looked over to him quickly, through tired eyes, surprised and taken back. "There was a, uh, sunflower field in your backyard. And you'd roam it for hours." He continued. "You loved it." He stared over at me.
"I did." I agreed, smiling just a little to myself at the fact that he's remembered something without me telling him. "And you love the smell of fresh baked bread in the morning as you woke up to a sunrise." I told him back. His eyes perked up and he nodded slightly. "And you loved when I'd play with your hair as I'd sing." Which he did, I would sing just to myself and he'd overhear me, and just listen. 'I love your voice.' He'd tell me. I could tell by talking of what used to be, it was jogging some of his memories back. He held a different look towards me. The same gaze that the Peeta who loved me once would do.
"You're a painter," Katniss chimed in. "You're a baker," she continued. "You always double knot your shoelaces" she stopped for a few moments until she finally spoke once more "and you love her." She informed him. He looked from her to me.

Morning came around and Peeta was handed a gun with no bullets for the propo. He looked to me, not seeming to like the feel of it in his hands, I smiled, attempting to assure it would all be over soon. "Alright, let's move. We're headed five blocks North." Boggs said as we took leave from camp and headed down the street.
"To the citizens of the Capitol, our war is not with you." Finnick began, getting Peeta to repeat after him.

"To the citizens of the Capitol, our war is not with you." He repeated, memorizing for the propo.
"You got it." Finnick said to him, happily with his progress. Peeta nodded.
We walked down the hall of the outside of a building and found ourselves at a stopping point. A good spot for the propo was straight ahead through the courtyard so Boggs went to clear it. It began to rapidly beep ahead, indicating a pod. We split to take cover. Finn and I went right with Peeta, as Boggs tossed something down the center. Bullets rang out for what felt like a very long time. Once we were cleared, people began standing, but we noticed Peeta was muttering to himself, and trembling with fear.
All of a sudden, an explosion erupted at the end of the walkway and Boggs was injured. We all ran forward, and he quickly transfered the holo to Katniss. I noticed the two talking as Bogg's life slowly slipped from him. One of the Leeg sisters was groaning in pain, so the other began to run towards her, triggering a defect where the walls now closed in on us. I held onto Peeta's arm tightly and we noticed a black liquid begin to rush down the side.
We all ran quickly trying to find safety and Peeta ripped away from me and ran over to Katniss, latching on to her and shoving her to the ground, trying to hit her with his prop gun. Mitchell now tackled him and they wrestled briefly before Peeta shoved him into the blackness, securing his death. Finn grabbed onto Peeta, and we rushed inside the building as quick as we could, running to the top, up the stairwell.
Peeta was triggered and Homes injected something that caused him to sleep. The liquid eventually slowed down and came to a stop, dissapearing. "We gotta move. If peacekeepers didn't know where we were then, they sure as hell do now." Finnick said, breathlessly, but base now wasn't responding to Jackson, due to signal loss.

"I can get us back to base, Everdeen, give me the holo." Lt. Jackson demanded and Kat held on tighter.
"No. Boggs gave it to me." She responded.
"He did. Transferred security to her." Homes agreed, confirming this. "I saw him."
"And why would he do that?" Lt. Jackson grew irritated and I could now see she may have other motives.
"I'm on special orders from Coin." Kat lied to her. "To assassinate President Snow."
"I don't believe that what so ever." Lt. Jackson scoffed before demanding she transfers holo security to her. But Kat disagreed. Now guns were pointed at one another. Gale held one at Jackson while she did to Katniss and I did to Lt. Jackson as well. Finn lifted his and aimed at her while others aimed at us. But, Cressida stepped in front of Katniss and began to defend her.
"She's telling the truth. Plutarch wants it televised." She now lied. "He thinks filming the Mockingjay kill Snow will make the Capitol surrender before casualties get to high." Katniss put Gale and my guns down, and walked in front of Lt. Jackson.
"Boggs promised you'd help me." She begged and Lt. Jackson finally lowered her weapon, causing tension to drop from all of us. She reluctantly agreed and we walked down the stairs.
Peeta was pulled to his feet and we walked outside to the black stained arena. These gamemakers sure loved putting on a show, there was no doubt about that.
We followed Gale where he busted open a window to a shop, and we closed the curtains. Trucks began approaching and peacekeepers flooded into the area, shooting up where the Leegs were, eventually, blowing it to pieces. The television lit up and Caesar Flickerman appeared, greating us.
"Today, as our peacekeepers valiantly hold off the rebels, our story takes a urprising twist, Katniss has infiltrated the city with some of our familiar victors. Finnick Odair, Arizona Stark and Peeta Mellark." The footage then showed Peeta attacking Katniss and just proved he wasn't fully on our side. Then it showed the peacekeepers blowing up the building, thinking we still were in there. "So there you have it, Katniss Everdeen, the girl on fire, has met a violent end herself." The television then shut off, leaving an eery silence amongst us all.
