《Blood to Love | 3rd year》4- Detention

Draco and I stayed in each other's presence, content but not necessarily friendly. We randomly glanced at one another and back to the fire. After awhile it was getting uncomfortable and Draco cleared his throat.
"Y/n," he suddenly stated.
"Yeah?" I questioned softly.
"What's your favorite subject?"
I furrowed my eyebrows at the unexpected question. "I really like care of magical creatures."
He raised his eyebrow at my answer and I wondered why he acted so surprised. Why did he even ask in the first place? It would've been odd if he wanted to get to know me. But why else would he be asking random questions about my preferences?
"Is there anything wrong with that, Malfoy?"
"No but you really like that oaf of a teacher?"
"Not necessarily. He doesn't treat Slytherin's the best but I love observing the creatures that he shows us."
"Ok, so which is your favorite?"
"Er — probably thestrals."
"Oh, you can see those because of your sister," he said more to himself than me. "What happened with her anyway?"
He said it so carelessly, acting as thought it didn't still affect me to this day.
"You have bullied me for the past two years, Malfoy and you really expect me to tell you about my personal life?" I jumped to my feet out of anger.
He seemed taken back. He mimicked my actions and jumped up as well, his eyes widening. I'm not sure if it was out of fear or utter confusion. How would anyone know that Eleanor was a sensitive topic? Surely he didn't. But still, after insulting me for years he had no right to ask me this sort of thing. Did he not have a filter? Or did he simply lack common sense? You don't talk to someone about a death in their family when you barely know them.
"I can't believe I even spoke to you in the first place, Malfoy! After everything you've said about me in the past," I spoke, my fist balling up with frustration.
I grabbed the wrapped up treacle tart that was formerly stored in my robe pocket and threw it right at his face. I didn't bother listening to the words he was saying behind me, as I was only focused on getting to my dorm and overthinking the rest of the night, probably having a horrible vivid dream about Eleanor's death, making my day so much more splendid.
My breath staggered quietly for hours, although I made sure nobody in the dorm could hear me. Crying would make me weak, so I didn't. But the anger that was exponentially increasing inside me made me want to scream and cry. I was becoming numb as I laid there. Eventually, I allowed myself to drift off to a deep slumber and rid my mind of any more stress.
I saw my sister falling, farther and farther, as her screams jerked me awake. I sat up in my bed screaming, covered in sweat and a horror-stricken expression displayed on my face.
I turned to look at my clock and there was only twenty minutes left until I was supposed to awake for breakfast. I decided to refrain from any possibilty of another nightmare and stay awake. Miserably, I stepped into the bathroom, splashed my face with water and decided to start getting ready.

I threw on my robes, pulled up my hair, and brushed my teeth as I usually did. I then put on some makeup and by the time I was done, Pansy and Daphne were slowly stirring awake. Before I had to interact with either of the girls, especially after the encounter with Draco and my anger still present, I swiftly exited the dorm and walked to the dark common room.
I peered inside before entering and only a few people were in there, fortunately not Draco. Without further thinking, I quickly made my way out of the common room and set off for the Great Hall for an early start to breakfast — a first for me.
When I arrived I sat in my usual spot, without Blaise this time, and placed some fruit and a bagel onto my plate. I ate slowly and more students started filing in as I finished. Blaise being one of them. When he sat down we started talking about what our classes for today (Tuesday) consisted of.
"Well I unfortunately have potions first hour, you?" I asked Blaise, though sad because he already had potions on Monday's.
"Oh — I have Transfiguration," he said gloomily.
"Blaise it's fine, we need more friends anyway. It can't just be the two of us forever. Let's try and set a goal to talk to someone new today, okay? It'll be good for us no matter how much we hate it."
"Yeah, okay," he said, although still in a sad manner.
We finished breakfast and decided we should get to class. I made my way to potions and we parted ways. I walked into the classroom, sat in the front row all the way to the left, and smiled at the Slytherin girl who was already sat in the chair next to the one I had just recently claimed. She returned a small smile and we both faced the front where Snape had used his wand to write what we are doing on his chalkboard.
I read the board in my head: Undetectable Potions
Snape started ranting about undetectable potions and the potions we would be brewing this year. I only half-listened until I heard a "hmph" from behind me. I turned my head around to see who made the noise and, to my luck, it was Draco. I urgently shifted my head back to Snape and could not think of anything else all day, except that I had caused a scene in front of Draco Malfoy and that he hasn't informed the whole school yet to enhance his reputation.
When the bell rang I met Blaise out by the black lake, as we had a free second hour once again. We skipped rocks and appreciated the warm, September weather. Trees were slightly shaking and only a handful of autumn leaves were dancing on the Hogwarts grounds — most still hanging onto branches.
After getting bored of skipping rocks repeatedly, we walked back into the castle and finished our homework that we received during our first classes.
When the magical bell rang, we walked with Blaise to Defense Against the Dark Arts and Professor Lupin welcomed us, along with the Gryffindors. On the right of the room at one of the small tables we sat, Blaise and I then scoped the room, to find Pansy and Draco sitting right behind us whispering. I turned my head back to the front and messed with Blaise's bald head the whole class period.

When the bell rang again, I was so full on laughter that it felt as if my appetite had disappeared. However, I still headed to lunch with Blaise and popped a few grapes into my mouth throughout the meal like I always did.
The bell boomed through the hall over all the whispers and shouts within the room. I was off to History of Magic while Blaise went to Muggle studies — our schedules unfortunetly flipped.
As I entered the History of Magic classroom, I noticed the Hufflepuff were in here as well. I gazed around and finally found Ernie Macmillan (who sat with me in Muggle Studies) and took a seat next to him with a small smile on my face. This first lesson was as boring as all the others and I zoned out many times. Ernie watched intently to the professor as I stared out the window watching the leaves dance around the sky and the black lake water altering slightly against the wind.
The bell rang for what felt like the 50th time today and I packed up all my stuff and unhappily left, feeling as though my motivation problem was growing worse by the day. Blaise was waiting for me outside the charms room and we walked in, staring at a struggling Professor Flitwick. He was attempting to grab a book off of the cabinet but couldn't quite reach. I walked over, grabbed the book from the not-so-high cabinet, and handed it to him politely then ventured off to find a seat.
The same routine happened and Flitwick informed us as to what we are learning this year. He gave a short assignment on naming 5 spells we will learn this year and dismissed us early, as he had nothing else planned for the evening.
We excitedly exited the classroom and finished to homework fairly quickly so we could focus on other things for the rest of the day. Blaise and I were sitting in the library finished with the minuscule amount of work we received today.
"Y/n I don't want to get up, do you mind if we stay here and read?" Blaise asked with puppy dog eyes, looking oddly similar to the eyes of Sirius Black (the escapee murderer from Azkaban) in the newspaper.
"Sure, let me grab a book," I said sincerely and stood up.
I walked over the the line of bookshelves and headed straight for the muggle section. With books, some including; The Secret History, Jurassic Park, and All the Bright Places. I grabbed All the Bright Places and started walking back to the table in the back with Blaise. I then bumped into someone due to the fact that I was still examining the shelves and not looking ahead of me. The book fell out of my grasp right on the floor and I reached down for it, but so did the person I bumped into. I mumbled an apology, gripped the book tightly, and finally looked up.
Draco. Why is it that this boy is everywhere I go?
"I take the apology back," I said.
"Mhm. See you in detention today." He suspiciously grinned and turned around back to the library exit.
I marched back to my small table next to Blaise and began to read. After hours at once of reading, I checked the clock and it was already time for dinner. I packed up and Blaise got the memo. We walked to dinner while talking about the plots of our stories based on the pages we had read so far.
Dinner was delicious, but ended quickly. Following dinner, I headed to my dorm to change out of my robes. I put on a hoodie and sweatpants and some plain, yet immensely soft slippers. With dreadful steps, I walked to the transfiguration classroom for detention.
There was a note on the door reading: Detention location has been moved to potions classroom!
There was suspicious writing on the back reading: 5 galleons?
And a reply to the question: of course.
I sighed and walked back to the dungeons into Snape's dark classroom. He was sitting at his desk and gestured for me to take a seat. Draco was sitting in the front on the far left so I ended up walking to the front but on the far right, distanced from Draco as much as possible.
"You'll be writing lines today, understood? You will write down 'I must not resort to violence in class.'"
Snape's low, growling voice echoed against the concrete walls of the classroom as he spoke. The potions teacher soon stepped out of the room for just a moment and Draco took it as an opportunity to speak to me.
"Psst, y/n!"
"What do you want?"
"Why'd you sit so far away, I don't bite." He smirked at his own comment which mimicked mine on the carriage during our first day back.
"If you want to sit with me so bad, by all means come over here," I retorted, also similar to his comment on the carriage.
"You dressed extra nice to see me," he joked.
"I'm not here to please you, Malfoy."
Snape walked back in and we silently continued writing for an hour or two. Once we completed a few pages of writing a repeated sentence, we handed the papers to Snape and scurried out of the door. I walked vastly quicker than Draco to avoid any more interactions with him.
I entered my dorm and laid down, eager to get more rest than last night. My eyes became heavy and I didn't fight the urge to drift asleep. Little did I know, sleep still wasn't much of an option for me tonight, but then again, is it ever?
