《BREAK A LEG | VKOOK ✓》PROLOGUE

The morning sun rose up from the clouds, radiating its light onto them as it painted the sky in all different shades of orange and yellow.

The harsh sunlight peeked through the gap in the curtain, into his face which highlighted the mole on his nose. It was that which brought him back to consciousness, his mind foggy, the events of yesterday all being just a blur. When his vision adjusted to the bright light, he looked up to see that the curtains he would normally see after waking up, didn't look familiar.

His eyes continued to wander around the room, inspecting the furniture. He searched for his wooden bedside table which would usually have a stuffed animal that laid on top. Instead, there was a mango wood table next to him that had an antique lamp on top and something that seemed to be a children's book underneath, nothing else.

He stared at the duvet that covered his broad frame, wondering where his pale blue covers had gone. He noticed that the curtains were different too, which would've been his purple lined curtains that took him ages to fit in his dorm were now replaced with thick red, velvet curtains that stretched down all the way to the floor.

He glanced at the female lying beside him, her expression restful.

Her tousled ebony locks spread like feathers on the pillow, with her bangs swept back into her hair. Her lashes were caked with mascara, it clumped in some areas, some had even smeared onto other parts of her face. Her slightly parted lips were no different, red lipstick was smudged all over them, staining the pillow along with her duvet. She was also wearing a simple gold necklace, it had a small encrusted diamond in the middle that hung loosely from her neck as she slept.

As he took in his surroundings, it was then when he noticed that he wasn't sleeping on his own bed in his own dorm, he was in a stranger's bed. Lifting the covers from his body, he realised that he was only dressed in his boxers.

He quietly brought himself into a sitting position on the bed, scanning the floor for any clothing which might be lying around. As expected, he found his discarded clothing from yesterday, scattered on the floor, a few pieces of women's clothing accompanying it.

Looking back at the girl, her bare arm was hugging the pillow with her chipped painted nails lightly grabbing at the ends of it. The girl looked about his age and was presumably not wearing anything, he figured that they had hooked up the night before.

At least, this is what he assumed to be the morning after a one-night stand, it perfectly explained the clothes on the floor, waking up in a stranger's house, sleeping next to said stranger, the evidence had laid itself out nicely.

However when he took a closer look at the stranger, she looked a tad bit familiar. Did he know her or was it the hangover that was making him seeing things?

Oh, he didn't know. Whatever.

He slowly stood up, the bed creaking as he did so. He cringed at the noise and quickly turned his head towards the girl to see if she was showing any signs of waking up. No, she seemed to be sound asleep. He let out a small sigh of relief, the last thing he wanted was the girl to wake up.

Gently picking up his clothing from last night, he brushed his clothing off from dust or anything else that may have gotten onto his shirt. He slipped on his cotton button-through shirt along with his faded ripped jeans.

With each button he buttoned, his memories got more and more blurry ironically, nothing was falling into place as he would've wanted. He tried to recall anything that might've happened yesterday but his splitting headache that accompanied his hangover said otherwise.

To his relief, when he patted the back pockets of his denim jeans, he was able to feel his wallet and phone in them and they seemed to be intact.

Finally, after putting on his shoes, he checked himself out in the full-length view mirror that belonged to the wardrobe, smoothing down his dark locks, brushing them with his fingers.

He decided that it was best he headed out now, he carefully made his way to the stairs, trying his best to make minimal noise which, in his success, he had made it there without causing a ruckus.

Still feeling really groggy, he was curious to see how many hours he had slept for so he checked his phone for the time.

'10:57' it read.

His eyes widened in shock and he started scurrying down the staircase, the idea of keeping quiet had been thrown out the window. Fuck, He was going to be late. It was for his favourite class too.

A couple of panicked moments later and he was out the door, not even caring to lightly close the door shut on his way out.

The sound of the door being hastily shut sent echoes throughout the house. The girl laid still for a couple of moments before fluttering her eyes open, the coast was clear. Rising from her bed, she got to her feet, she looked at herself in the mirror and realised that she forgot to wipe her makeup off from yesterday.

She smiled, laughing at the boy's actions and how he had rushed out of the house. To be completely honest, she actually had awoken an hour before he did but didn't try waking him up from his slumber.

She let out a small yawn, stretching a little as she did so, still looking into the mirror she realised that she was in her underwear.

Picking a simple shirt out of her drawer, she lazily slipped it on, not bothering to put on pants. She strolled into her bathroom, wiping off any remains of makeup on her face and gave it a thorough wash. She must've looked ridiculous with the smudged makeup on her face, she mentally scolded herself for not washing it off yesterday.

She trotted down the wooden stairs and made her way to the kitchen. Empty pizza boxes were stacked on the counter with the sink filled with dirty cups and dishes from last night.

Carefully trying to avoid touching the dirty dishes, she added water into the coffee maker to make her usual morning coffee. She reached for the bread but found it to be drenched due to the drink spills on the messy counter. She threw the bread in the bin, deciding that it would be better if she stuck to her coffee.

Looking at the living room, it was a complete chaotic mess. Luckily, everyone who had been there the previous night had seen themselves out. Discarded red plastic cups filled the room as leftover cans of cheap beer sat on the tables.

She opened the cupboard to see that there were no more mugs, they were all in the sink, waiting to be washed. By now, the coffee was ready but she was too lazy to clean the dishes so she grabbed a red plastic cup from the packet and decided to make do with that. She poured her coffee into the cup and took a sip, satisfied with the taste.

She looked out of the window to see two birds resting on the branch of the tree, the morning dew dripping off the deep green leaves as the wind gushed. The sight held no significance to her but it made her lips curve into a devilish grin.

"It was nice meeting you again too,"

She quickly stifled a giggle, preparing for her next line, acting as if she was in a movie.

"Kim Taehyung."
