《BREAK A LEG | VKOOK ✓》ONE | THE NIGHT BEFORE

Parties were the worst.

Especially if you're the only sober person at the party.

Jeongguk sat in the corner of the dark living room, near the bright kitchen. It was his only source of light besides the flashing strobe lights. Jeongguk hid his face, trying to avoid being noticed by anyone.

Sweaty bodies wildly jumped to the music as lights danced across the room. The strong scent of alcohol filled Jeongguk's nostrils which made him gag, he never found the thrill behind alcohol, thus, remained sober.

He uncovered his face to quietly sip his orange juice, it was in a red cup to make it look like he was drinking alcohol instead of fruit juice so he wouldn't look like a pussy.

Loud music blasted through the speakers and there what Jeongguk assumed to be a couple, yelling and arguing next to him over the music along with another couple sloppily making out.

With people noisily chatting and laughing near the table beside him, Jeongguk sat down with his knees tucked into his chest to avoid his feet touching the floor.

Jeongguk's position had his knees being most of what he saw as Jeongguk was looking at the floor, not wanting to be blinded from the lights. Ahead of his knees his little feet peaked into view, Jeongguk gave a small smile, he was wearing Iron-Man socks and that was worth giggling about.

He'd look like a fool if anyone were to notice but Jeongguk didn't think anyone would care. Those socks have been with him for a while, throughout most of his life. Jeongguk frowned when he had noticed a little hole in them the other day, it was sure to spread but at least he knew he had to take extra care of them from now on.

Oh, why was he here?

"Hey there cutie." A slurred voice called out to him. Jeongguk looked up to see a man looking down at him with a lazy smile. He was covered from head to toe in branded clothing with a couple of expensive accessories, he was definitely trying too hard.

"H-hi.." Jeongguk mumbled, quickly glancing away from the man. This is what he hated most about parties, talking to people. He rested his chin on his knees, his almond-brown hair brushing against his forehead.

The man took a seat next to him and wrapped his arm over Jeongguk's shoulder, his face dangerously close to his. "This party is pretty boring, why don't you and I.." He pointed his finger towards the black car from the window. "Get outta here?"

Well, he jumped straight to the point. Jeongguk had to hold his breath, the man's breath stunk of alcohol. It was obvious that he was drunk, if not that then he was at least tipsy from the way he couldn't keep his posture straight.

"S-sorry.. I have a boyfriend actually." Jeongguk admitted, playing with the material of his shirt to avoid eye contact.

Oh, that's why he was here.

Jeongguk's boyfriend had suggested he and him, along with a few friends, went to a party that a girl he knew was hosting.

Jeongguk thought against his idea but due to peer pressure and bad life choices, he ended up where he was. Being hit on by some random creep, exactly the kind of situation he'd love to be in.

The guy's smirk never faltered. "He doesn't have to know.." He rasped. Jeongguk was beyond uncomfortable, guys like these never seem to get the message. He resisted the urge to slap some sense into him but chose not to cause a mess, that wouldn't be good.

Jeongguk silently prayed his boyfriend would come to the rescue, at this point he didn't even know where he was. He just wished that he was here, showing Jeongguk off as his boyfriend to show people who he really belonged to.

He remained still in his position, knees tucked and all. Jeongguk continued to stare down at the floor showing all signs of discomfort but that didn't stop the man. Jeongguk's grip on his shirt tightened when the man grabbed his chin, forcing Jeongguk to look at him.

"It's not nice to look away when somebody is talking to you, you're a bit naughty, aren't you? Come with me and I'll put some.. discipline into you if you know what I mean." He grinned, wriggling his eyebrows.

"I-I really need to go-" Jeongguk squeaked but the man didn't let go, his grip was firm. Jeongguk was near to tears, he wanted to go home and cuddle in bed with his plushies but there was still no sight of his boyfriend.

"Come on, it'll be fun. Jus' you and me-"

"He said that he has a boyfriend." A familiar voice came from the kitchen.

A short, peach-haired boy walked into the room, scowling at the male who still had his hand on Jeongguk's face. Jeongguk sighed in relief, someone had finally come to his rescue.

"Back off will you? Only desperate creeps like you would hit on people who are already in a relationship." He smirked, looking at how anger quickly painted the creep's face at his remark.

He let go of Jeongguk's face and stood up, Jeongguk rubbing his face to soothe the pain. The creep's angry expression quickly switched back to his smirk, "And what are you gonna do, Huh, shortie?"

Jeongguk quickly covered his mouth to stop his laughter from escaping at the comment thrown at his 'saviour', an angry glare being given from him as a result.

"I'm not going to do anything. I'm telling you politely to back off before things get ugly, you're making him uncomfortable." He stood, his arms crossed against his chest.

"And why should you care?"

"Because I'm his boyfriend, that's why!" He spat, looking at how the man's face paled, his mouth agape.

He closed his mouth, attempting to keep his composure. "Tch, I don't know why I wasted my time on you." He grumbled before walking off, his hands in his pockets.

"You're welcome." He smiled.

"You didn't have to tell him you were my boyfriend, Jimin." Jeongguk sighed.

Jimin's smile fell, he scoffed. "If I didn't make up that lie then he wouldn't leave you alone. Besides, it's not like you're cheating on Namjoon with me."

"Yeah, yeah, as if I'd ever want to date you." Jeongguk retorted.

Jimin just rolled his eyes and sat next to Jeongguk who was now pouting.

"What's wrong, Gguk? Are you still upset about that creep?" Jimin asked.

Jeongguk shook his head sideways, still pouting.

"Then?"

"I don't want to be here." He groaned. "I just wanna go home and cuddle with Joonie.." He sighed. With the amount of people there to the horrid smell of alcohol and vomit mixed together, Jeongguk just wanted to leave, imagining himself wrapped up in his boyfriend's arms.

Jimin opened his mouth but closed it again, deciding that he shouldn't argue with his best friend and just agree to his wishes for now.

"Fine. I'll text Joon to tell him that we're leaving early." Jimin replied, taking his phone out of his pocket.

"Sure, I'm going to the toilet first," Jeongguk said, before attempting to get up, he realised that he was just in his socks. Jeongguk wasn't wearing shoes as someone had spilt their drink all over them and he didn't want his socks getting wet.

Jeongguk slid off his socks, stuffing them into his pocket and put on his shoes, he wouldn't want to risk ruining his socks by stepping on anything unpleasant. Cigarette butts, puddles of spilt vodka, you name it.

Hesitantly, Jeongguk put his foot down on the floor, cringing at the sound of tortilla chips crunching under his feet. He took another step, this time stepping on a beer can. He shuffled his way through the dancing crowd, brushing past everyone.

"Excuse you!" A girl snarled, her tone making Jeongguk feel small.

"S-sorry.." Jeongguk's voice dropped down to a whisper, quickly pushing past the girl with her complaining behind him.

He made it to the staircase, Jeongguk had to step over the empty bottles of liquor that littered the front of the stairs to get onto the first couple of steps. Squeezing his way up the compacted wooden staircase.

Glancing at the closed doors, Jeongguk didn't know where the bathroom was. He decided to just pick the door that looked the most like a bathroom door and hope for the best.

Jeongguk picked the room nearest the staircase as it had a lock, he fumbled with the metal doorknob, finally managing to open it.

A shrill scream was heard once the door opened. Crap, did he walk into a couple?

"I-I'm sorry-" Jeongguk apologised for the nth time, it wasn't until then when he looked up that Jeongguk wished he had just gone home immediately instead of waiting to go the toilet.

A horrified look was etched onto Namjoon's face, he wasn't wearing anything. The girl underneath him quickly grabbed the blanket to cover herself, she too was just as horrified.

Jeongguk felt all sorts of emotions, sadness, anger, hurt. He didn't know how to express them so he stayed quiet, a horrible feeling building up in his chest.

"I-It's not what you think-"

"Save it, Namjoon." Jeongguk scoffed, calling Namjoon by his actual name, which he rarely did, he usually called him by his nicknames.

"I don't even know what I ever saw in you." Jeongguk spat, his lip trembling as his eyelashes brimmed heavy with tears about to fall.

"Jeongguk-"

"We're done." Jeongguk announced, his voice close to breaking with his throat and chest tightening. Salty beads of tears began to drip down Jeongguk's cheeks, down his cheeks they ran, falling from his chin.

Jeongguk shoved his way down the stairs, tears clouding his vision. He couldn't care less about the stares he got from onlookers, about the shouts of his name from his now ex-boyfriend. Nothing mattered anymore.

"Jeongguk, I texted Namjoon and- Jeongguk! Are you okay?!" Jimin cried, putting his hand over his friend's shoulder to comfort him.

"Why don't you ask the cheating bastard," Jeongguk muttered, Jimin widened his eyes.

"Jeongguk.. don't tell me-"

"I don't want to talk about it. I'm getting a drink." Jeongguk mumbled, wiping his tears away with his sleeve.

"Jeongguk, I don't think that's a good idea-"

"I said I'm getting a drink," Jeongguk repeated, mimicking the way Jimin spoke before.

Namjoon stumbled down the stairs right after Jeongguk in a hurried attempt to catch up to him and spit out whatever bullshit he wanted to say to him.

"Jeongguk-" Namjoon called out, a hand reaching out for his shoulder which Jimin slapped away, glaring at him with rage.

"Don't." Jimin sternly told, his eyes burning holes into Namjoon.

Jeongguk trudged his way into the kitchen, he grabbed a plastic cup, snatching whatever bottle was on the counter. Wrapping his fingers around the bottle he poured himself a drink.

Though hesitant, Jeongguk threw his common sense out the window and downed the contents of the cup, some of the drink splashed onto his face but that didn't matter to Jeongguk. What mattered is that he wanted to forget everything, drink away his worries and regrets and that's what he was going to do.

The vile taste of alcohol present on Jeongguk's tongue, the burning sensation on his throat and tongue was intoxicating. It made him want to drink even more. Jeongguk poured himself another cup of the drink and chugged it like there was no tomorrow. He definitely wasn't in the right mindset, Jeongguk had always disliked the taste and feel of alcohol but now? What was there to lose?

Jeongguk swallowed his last mouthful of the drink, slamming his red cup on the counter. Bystanders noticed and started to cheer as Jeongguk yet again, poured himself another cup of the drink.

"Chug! Chug! Chug!" They chanted, watching at how Jeongguk brought the cup to his lips and started drinking.

By now there was a whole crowd cheering Jeongguk on as he downed another drink, he panted heavily after finishing the cup. Jeongguk was slumped on the counter, beads of sweat trickled down his face, his hair sticking to his damp forehead.

Jimin jostled his way through the crowd, he was scared Jeongguk was going to do something stupid and hurt himself. He hoped Jeongguk was alright at least.

As he entered the kitchen he saw Jeongguk through the huge crowd that surrounded him, bottle in hand, aiming to pour another drink for him to chug once more.

Jimin hustled through yet another crowd, finally reaching to his friend, who was clumsily spilling a bit of the drink on the kitchen floor. He yanked the bottle from Jeongguk, looking at the label to see its contents.

"Jeongguk- you've been drinking, I thought you hated alcohol?!" Jimin groaned, looking at Jeongguk with shock.

"Sorry folks, Show's over!" He cried, grabbing Jeongguk by the arm and leading him to the front door, pushing past many people.

Although Jimin himself was a bit tipsy, he was still sober enough to make valid decisions and unlike Jeongguk, Jimin only had a shot of whiskey.

"Jiminie, why do you have to be such a party pooper..?" Jeongguk complained.

"Jeongguk, you're drunk. We can talk when you're sober." Jimin sighed.

"B-but!"

"No but's Jeongguk! We're going home." Jimin snapped.

Jeongguk looked at him for a few seconds before bursting into tears.

"J-Jiminie hates me! I don't want him to hate me! Where's Joonie? I want Joonie.." Jeongguk slurred, hooded eyes looking at Jimin.

"Forget 'Joonie' he's nothing but a pathetic piece of shit."

Jeongguk just stared at Jimin, sniffling his nose as Jimin helped him to the front door.

They walked out of the house, the front yard was just as messy as the house for it was also filled with people and litter. The awful stench of vomit was clearly evident, even outside. Somebody was passed out on the garden chair with drunken students howling with laughter and making a ruckus.

The whole atmosphere made Jeongguk's head spin, the overwhelming sights and sounds didn't help with his drunken state.

Jimin kept a death grip on Jeongguk, making sure he doesn't lose him on the journey home to their dorm. He called a taxi back to campus, since Jeongguk was drunk, he didn't trust him to get home by himself.

They climbed into the car, Jeongguk's face hidden in Jimin's shirt, on his lap as his legs were spread out on the seats.

It was then when Jeongguk had realised the situation, how Namjoon cheated on him; how he betrayed his trust.

Through all the alcohol he had drank, misery had found its way to Jeongguk's insides. Violent sobs racked his body, Jeongguk clutched tightly onto Jimin's shirt, drenching it with his tears. Jimin rocked his best friend gently, twirling his hair in his fingers as a way to comfort him.

When Jeongguk lifted his head from his friend's chest, Jimin's eyes were met with a devastating sight; Jeongguk's eyes were sore and puffy from tears, his eyelashes and rosy cheeks were damp, the tip of his nose being bright red along with the rims of his eyes.

"W-why would he cheat on me Jimin.. was I not good enough? Am I ever good enough?" Jeongguk whispered, his voice cracking with his pretty lips quivering.

Jimin's heart broke at his friend's words. He's only ever known Jeongguk since college had started but it hurt him whenever his friend was upset as he was a very empathetic person.

"No, Jeongguk." Jimin began. "Namjoon wasn't good enough for you, he never was. If he was going to cheat on you at the end then he never deserved you." Jimin replied, rubbing Jeongguk's back.

Jeongguk tried to blink away his incoming tears away from his big doe eyes but they eventually broke loose, running down Jeongguk's cheeks once again. He buried his face into Jimin's chest, wanting to muffle his cries of hurt and despair.

Miserable sobs of agony ripped through his throat, it was becoming dry from the amount of crying he had done. Jeongguk was in a state of pure agony and didn't know how else to let it out besides crying his heart out.

Jeongguk swallowed, his cries slowly subsiding as Jimin whispered about how he was perfect and that Namjoon didn't deserve him.

Namjoon. The name made bile rise to Jeongguk's throat, the name that once brought him joy whenever he heard it now just had traitor tattooed on it. That's what Namjoon was to Jeongguk now. A traitor.

Once they had arrived at their destination, Jeongguk wobbled to his feet, not only did the alcohol make him feel dizzy but the whole situation did.

Jimin held onto Jeongguk, making sure he doesn't fall, the alcohol really had its effect on him, Jeongguk doesn't normally drink but on this night he did. He wanted to forget, forget everything that happened. He wanted this to all be a nightmare and that when Jeongguk woke up it would all be a dream.

Whilst walking through the empty corridor of the dorms the feeling of bile coming up got stronger and stronger. Luckily he had just reached his dorm where he slammed the bathroom door open to throw up into the toilet.

Jimin quickly came to his side, making sure Jeongguk was okay. Jimin made Jeongguk wash his face and brush his teeth before sleeping ignoring his whines of protest.

According to him, no matter if you're drunk and going through a breakup, you wouldn't want to have your breath smell like vomit the next morning.

Jimin led Jeongguk into his bed, not ushering him to change his clothes as it didn't matter as much. He climbed into the bed, pulling the blanket over them and lulled Jeongguk to sleep, singing him a soft lullaby.

Though Jeongguk's heart was filled with sorrow and pain, he was able to fall into a deep slumber, after all, he was exhausted from crying so much today.

Jimin checked to see if Jeongguk was asleep, smiling to himself when he saw that he was sleeping, his job was done.

Wriggling himself out of his grip, Jimin grabbed a couple of pillows and slid them underneath Jeongguk's arm to mimic his presence.

As much as he'd love to stay and comfort his friend, they had class tomorrow and had to be prepared.

"Good night, Gguk." He mumbled before switching off the light, darkness filling the room.
