We finally got into a classroom and blocked the door with 3 desks, but I don't think it's going to hold for long. We start looking around for something to throw out into the hallway to distract them so we can get out of here. "Rick, there's nothing in here! Our best bet is to go out the window!" Aaron says while looking at Rick. Normally I would agree with Aaron and say that's a good idea, but not this time. Since this school has 3 floors, we somehow ended up on the 3rd floor and it's a pretty big drop to get to the ground. Rick just stands there in silence for a minute until a walker breaks the glass on the door window. After that he sighs. "Isn't there anything we can use to make a rope so we can get down easier!" I say looking around. "I did find a could blankets behind the teachers desk!" Aaron says wile running over to get them. Once he grabs them we all start tying the 6 blankets together while the walkers start pushing the desks, causing them to fall down. As we self the blankets hanging off the window sill, Aaron volunteers to go first. "Rick I'll go first." Rick looks at him confused. "I want to make sure its safe for the rest of you. If there's anything down there I can try to kill it." Rick sighs while I walk over to Aaron. "No Aaron, you've already risked your life to many times for me!" I say with tears welling up in mg eyes. "Addison I'll be fine." I nod my head yes while he goes and holds on to the ropes while Rick and dad start lowering him down. "ANYTHING?" Dad yells. Right now Aaron is about to ne level with the second floor. "NOTHING YET!" Aaron yells back. All of a sudden we hear Aaron scream. "AARON!" I yell while I look out the window. Since Aarom is level with a classroom and we didnt have time to check the second floor there is one with an open window and a walker is grabbing him. Aaron tries to get out his gun but he drops it since the walker almost bit his arm. "AARON!" I yell. He looks up at me while I start climbing down the rope. "NO, ADDISON STAY THERE!" He yells while still trying to fight the walker. "NO! I'M TRYING TO HELP YOU!" "I'M FINE!" I dont respond because I dont want to start a fight with him. After a minute I end up right above Aaron, pull out my gun and shoot the walker in the head after that Aaron looks io at me. "Thanks." I start climbing down like he does. "Don't mention it."

I didn't want Addison to have to do that, but at the end of the day its about helping someone out. As soon as she touches the ground I realize something. "Rick?" He lolls at me. "What?" "How are we gonna get the last person down if they chat have someone hold the rope?" Rick's face goes blank.
Since we were trying to get everyone out in a hurry I didnt even realize we don't have anyone to hold the rope for the last person. That's when I start thinking of some way to hold the rope. "Grab the teachers desk and flip it over!" I yell as Carl starts climbing down. While Daryl is flipping the desk I look back to see the walkers are half way through the door. "Daryl, go now!" I slightly yell as I grab the rope. "No, you go first!" Daryl just sighs. "Dont let 'em get close." I nod my head as he start heading down the rope.
As dad gets down I walk over to him and then look up to see Rick glaring down at us. "RICK! C'MON DOWN!" Dad yells. Rick quickly goes back in the classroom before bolting out. Once Rick is about 3 meters in the air the rope falls and Rick lands on his feet. Carl rushes over and makes sure he's ok as walkers start falling fork the classroom window. We start moving towards the front of the school and heading back home until Carl spots a van parked at a house. Rick and dad run up to it and surprisingly get it started. "GET IN!" Dad yells as we all hop in AMD Rick starts driving back to the cabin.
Right now we're stopped because it turns out we weren't so lucky when the can started. The van had almost and empty tank of gas. We get out and start walking until I notice Aaron is sweating and looks a little pale. "Hey. Are you ok?" He just nods his head yes. "Here. Have some water." I say offering him a bottle. "No thanks, I'm fine." He says lightly pushing it towards me. "Aaron, you don't look well, please just drink..." My voice trails off as I stop walking. "Oh my god." I mumble under my breath, tears now forming in my eyes. All of a sudden Carl comes up beside me and has the same look while he steers at the blood stain that's soaked through Aarons shirt on his left rib. "Aaron, are you bit?" Carl says with depression in his voice. Aaron looks at the ground, then us. "Yes." I let out a breath as a tear slips down my right cheek. "Why didn't you tell us?" I say while sniffling a little. "Because there's nothing you cam do to save me! Plus I didn't want to slow you down." While Aaron starts talking dad and Rick come over to us. "What's going on?" Rick asks. "Aarons bit." I say with more tears now flowing down my cheeks. Rick and dad both out their hands against their face and start to pace back and forth. After a minute of silence Aaron says something. "You can leave me here." "No, no we're not doing that!" I say with wet cheeks. "Addison, you have to." He looks at me with sad eyes. "Please." My eyes are now filled with tears even more. After I look at Aaron and the pain he's going through I pull out the gun from my holster. But before I, or someone else, shoots him I wrap my arms tightly around Aaron and he does the same after a second. "I'll miss you!" I say now full out crying. "I'll miss you to." He says while letting go. After that Rick, dad and Carl say goodbye before I point the gun at Aarons head. After standing there for about 4 minutes I out the gun down and cry a little more. "I can't do it." I say dropping the gun and going over to Carl. After a minute I see dad pick up the gun and give it to Aaron. "No, I'm never going to be able to do it myself." After a minute more of silence I clutch Carls shirt as hard as I can until I hear the gunshot before Aarons lifeless body falls to the ground.

Follow Jebedaih Walker as he begins his second life and explores the opportunites around him. This is a hobby for me, so I won’t be asking for money or other support. I’m sharing my enjoyment of writing in a community of writers I admire. Generally, chapters will be between 1-2K words, published on Tuesdays and Fridays. If I get more that 8 chapters in drafts I’ll release some as bonuses. If you can suffer without all the nice things RoyalRoad does for readers, then you may find content on my website that hasn't been published here. Content there may be going through revision before being posted here, but I know that won't stop you if I left a horrible cliff hanger. Please review my work (here) and share your opinon with me. Your feedback can improve my skill, and my enthusasim can only do so much!
