《Cupid's Arrow ✔》Chapter 15

It was Saturday and I wasn't excited about this weekend. Ask why? Because I have physics test on Monday. Luckily, our teacher had already informed us about it. I'm glad it's not surprise test or else I would have flunked.

After the incident on Thursday, Chase never left my side. Ashley went ballistic when I didn't show up the next day. She called me few times, but I couldn't pick up the phone because according to Chase, I was sick and sick people don't answer calls.

After school she came by, and demanded me why didn't I come to school today. I told her what happened after she dropped me. She took my book from the nearby table and started hitting me.

"Ow, ow! Why the fudge are you hitting me?" I exclaimed.

"You should have informed me. I was scared, Chloe." Still she didn't stop hitting. I snatched the book from her hand and hid it close to my chest. Geez! What's wrong with this girl?

After she calmed down, she gave me the news of our physics test. So that's how I came to know about it. I told Chase about it since he didn't go to school even when I insisted that I'm fine. I wasn't that sick that I need someone by my side. My parents went to work so I suggested the same from him. Not to go to work, of course. But he said no-one will be there to take care of me. So I gave in. He did take good care of me.

I sighed and sat on my chair, head in my hand.

"Chloe? Are you okay?" A voice called out. I turned to see Chase leaning against the window sill.

"I'm fine. We have physics test on Monday," I said. We both have the same class.

"Yeah, I know. Ryan called and informed. Why are you all depressed about it?" He cocked his eyebrow.

"Why am I depressed? Are you serious? I don't like physics. In fact, I hate physics. I can't understand a single thing. I'm going to fail. I can't fail." I exclaimed. I groaned and buried my face in my hands again.

He chuckled. "The nerd, Chloe Wilson, doesn't know a subject. Am I dreaming? Did she really just say that she is going to fail?" He looked up with a thoughtful expression.

"Shut up," I growled at him.

He looked back at me and raised an eyebrow and smirked. "If you want I can help you, Chloe. You just have to ask."

I looked up with a surprise expression and ran towards the window sill. "Really?" I batted my eyelashes at him. "Are you going to help me?"

"Of course," he said proudly, might I add. He looked at me with a big grin.

"Then, there is no way I have a chance to pass. If you teach me, I'm going flunk, that's for sure."

The big grin he had on his face was wiped out in a matter of second. I bit my lips to suppress a smile. He narrowed his eyes at me and pressed his lips in a thin line.

"What do you mean?"

"What? Did I say something wrong?" I asked, innocently.

"Don't you dare go all innocent on me. I know what you mean," he said, throwing his hand in his hair, all irritated.

"Then, why ask if you know what I mean?" A ghostly smirk appeared on my lips.

He groaned, "Seriously, Chloe. That's just a question that normally people ask." He said and shook his head. "Rhetorical."

I sighed and looked at the physics book that is currently sitting on my study table. I have this urge to take the book and throw it out of the window.

"Now, now, Chloe. You shouldn't think such a thing. For a nerd, it's not a good thing." He shook his head like he was scolding a child for not listening to his mother.

"And what am I thinking?" I asked.

"Something related to the book. You have 'I'm going to kill you' look," he pointed towards my face. "It's kind of obvious, you are thinking something about it."

"Fine. I was. I don't know what to do," I said.

"You know, you are making a wrong decision. You don't even know if I'm good or not. Do you know how much I score in physics, here?" He questioned. I just know that if he didn't stop talking anytime soon, I might kill him, instead of the book.

"How many marks did you get?" I snapped at him. He smirked.

"Oh nothing, just above 90. I actually don't remember. But I know one thing; I always get an A+ in physics." He waved his hands around his face as if it's no big deal.

"Are you kidding me? That's not possible," I exasperated. He looked offended. "No offense."

"I am offended. And no, I'm not kidding. Ask anyone you want." He said with confidence.

Now keep talking, boy. I'm listening.

I looked at the book. Don't think I forgot you. I'm still going to kill you. You are number one on my list.

Chase chuckled and ruffled my head. I swatted his hands away and glared at him. He blinked and smiled innocently at me.

"Okay. I believe you. So.. Will you teach me physics?" I hesitated.

"On one condition," he said, holding one finger up.

"That is?" I pressed.

"You have to go to the nearby park with me," he said. I looked at him and blinked. He shared a confuse look with me. Then, I burst out laughing. Park, really?

"Y-you want t-to go to p-park?" I asked between my laughter.

"Yeah." He snapped, turning a bit red. Oh god! He is blushing, again. "I took it easy on you. You should be thankful instead of laughing," he huffed and crossed his arms over his chest. Oh! This is hilarious.

"Sorry, sorry. I am thankful." I surrendered. But bit my lips harder to stop from bursting again.

"Stop!" He exclaimed.

"What?"

"Stop biting your lips. It's distracting." He trailed. Now it was my time to turn red from blushing. Now it was his turn to smirk. Crap!

"So? Are you okay with the condition?" He asked. I nodded my head, not trusting my voice.

"Good. We'll go in the afternoon around 3," he said, looking at his watch. "Then we can come back and I'll teach you physics. We have tomorrow as well. I'll make sure you are all prepared. Don't worry about it," he smiled at me. I smiled back.

"Okay. I'll meet you at 3."

"Yeah."

I closed my window and he did the same. I had time so I decided to relax for a while. Since morning, I've been pacing around the room because of the physics test. Now that the problem is solved, I'll go take a shower and watch TV, eat and by the time I know, it will be three.

I was excited as it was our first time hanging out in the park without our friends hovering over. That's when I thought about Emma.

I shook my head. I can't let the thoughts come to my mind. Chase might like her, but when I asked her about it, she said she was not interested in him. She won't lie to me. She always tells me about stuffs like these. She made it clear to me. I'm thinking too much. Chase hasn't brought that topic again...yet.

I took a long warm shower. It was refreshing. I wrapped the towel around me and went to my room. I walked in my walk-in closet and took a skirt with black off shoulder t-shirt with design on it. It was pretty cute and wore my knee length boots. I was ready, but it was only 1:30. So I decided to get some lunch.

I paddled in kitchen to see mom had already prepared food for me. I took my food and heated in the microwave. After that I went in the living room, switched on the TV and began digging in my food. Yum! This is heaven.

I was watching a movie on Netflix when I heard the doorbell ring. I stood up and went to open the door.

There stood Chase with a smile on his face. I was excited about today. Maybe because it's the first, we both are going together.

"Hey," I greeted.

"Hey. You look cute," he gave a boyish smile. Cue, my blushing. "You ready?"

"Yup. Let me just grab my phone and wallet," I said and turned to the living room, where I kept it. After I took my belongings, I locked the door behind me.

"We're walking, right?" I asked as we left my porch.

"Yeah. Park's just two blocks away, so it's fine, I guess." He said, awkwardly.

I nodded my head. We walked in silence until we reached the park. As soon as we stepped in, I looked at Chase.

"Is there a specific reason for you to come at the park," I asked.

"No. I like going to the park. Whenever I'm free, I go to the park. Alone or with someone. Mostly I go with Brenna. She plays around and I sit nearby on the bench and listen to music." He said, shoving his hands in his pocket.

I nodded my head. That's understandable. "So you want to play now?"

"I'm not a kid. I just like coming here," he scoffed.

"Too bad. Because I'm going to play. I haven't had a chance to come here since Emm-" I cut myself before I could complete it. I cursed myself.

Get a grip.

"Since what?" Chase asked, curiously. He looked at me suspiciously and narrowed his eyes with an eyebrow raised, trying to figure something out. He looked at me closely. But I backed off and turned towards the swing.

"Since a year," I said, not looking behind me to see if he was following or not.

I sat on swing and Chase sat on the right side of it. We sat there in silence. It was too uncomfortable silence. So I decide to break it.

"Let's see who swings higher," I challenged him. He turned and smirked at me.

"Oh! You're on," he challenged.

With that we began swinging higher and higher, laughing our butt off. We were really behaving like a kid. But it's nice to behave like one.

**

"I won."

"No, you didn't."

"Yes, I did."

"No."

"Yes."

"I said no."

"But I said yes," I whined. He let out a frustration groan.

"For the first and last time, Chloe. You. Didn't. Win." He explained slowly so I could understand. "It was a tie."

"No. It wasn't." I stomped my foot and stood my ground, not moving. I crossed my arms over my chest and looked away, pouting.

He sighed. "Come on, Chloe. Stop behaving like a kid!" He exclaimed.

"Tell me, I won or else I won't," I said continuing my pouting.

"Fine. You won, happy now?" he said and ran his hands through his hair. He looked irritated, but had a smile on his face.

"Okay. Now, I want ice cream." I said, grinning at him.

"Really?" He asked in disbelief. "I'll make sure to never bring you to the park again." He mumbled.

"I heard that," I said, behind him.

"Yeah whatever," he said and looked for the ice cream parlor nearby. "I know one here. I take Brenna there. So you want to wait here or come with me?" He asked.

"I'll come," I said. We began walking to where the ice cream parlor is. I was humming some song while we walk.

We saw 'Johnny's parlor' written outside a parlor with a cone of ice cream beside it. We entered and I was immediately covered with the smell of ice cream. I lifted my hand to my mouth to check whether I'm drooling or not. It's not a pretty side. We went to the counter, where a boy around our age or maybe younger than us was working.

"Hi, what may I get you?" He asked. Chase looked at me as if asking which flavor I want.

"Can I get choco chip with chocolate nuts over it?" I asked.

"Sure. What would you like?" He asked looking at Chase.

"Vanilla. Only vanilla," he said.

"Only vanilla. It's so boring." I said make a face.

"It's not. I like vanilla," he said and stuck his tongue out.

"Real mature," I said, rolling my eyes. He chuckled, but didn't say anything.

"Here you go," the worker gave us our respective ice cream. "Have a nice day."

I smiled and we left the parlor, going back to the park.

"So tell me, why did you move here? I mean, you're from New York. It's a beautiful place. You have friends there? So why here?" I asked. "Did I already ask that question?"

"Well, I don't know if you already asked or no, but I'll still answer your question." He said, while eating his ice cream. I did the same with mine. "Everything was going good, but then Dad got a better opportunity here. So we decided to move here. As for my friends, I miss them, but I'm only in contact with one of them. So, yeah. That's pretty much it. Let's not forget, I made new friends here. I like them. They are pretty cool." He must be talking about the guys.

"But in New York, there are more opportunity than here. This is a small town. Then why here?" I asked in confusion.

"Yeah, it is. But Dad got a higher position here." He explained. That makes sense, I guess.

"Oh..okay," I replied.

"So now you tell me," he said, looking at me. We came near the bench and sat down. My ice cream was just about to finish while he was still eating his.

"What do you want to know?" I asked, innocently.

"You didn't tell me anything about Emma? Where is she? I miss her, you know."

I was dreading this question from the beginning. I froze in my seat, not moving an inch. I felt my heart pounding in my chest. My hands became sweaty. I blinked my eyes a couple of times to avoid the unshed tears.

"Chloe? Are you okay?" He asked, tentatively.

"I'm..I'm f-fine," I muttered, not looking at him. I began eating my ice cream.

"But-" he continued, only to be cut off.

"Emma? Right. She..um well she isn't here. She is busy. I told her about you, that you're our neighbour. She's happy about it," I lied, forcing a smile.

"Okay. So, can I ta-" Chase was cut off, again. But this time, it wasn't me. I looked up and my face paled.

"Hey. Long time no see?" A voice said, quietly. It broke me to see him like this. I felt a tear escape my eyes. So much for not crying.
