It would take about a month for the pack council to legalize the adoption of a pup. Taehyung and Maya already got an application form and pretty much met all the requirements for adoption so all that was left before they got their pup was to submit the filled application and other required documents.

The night before the day they were supposed to go submit the form, everything was fine. The couple was excited as they sat on the balcony, watching the beautiful night sky and the well-lit city below.

"I'm so excited". Maya squealed and squeezed her mate's hand which the male returned with a light rub on her hand.

"The pup won't be here until a month. Calm down baby". Taehyung smiled at the overexcited female.

"Yeah but we're submitting the form tomorrow and we'll soon meet so many pups to choose from". Maya's eyes glistened as she imagined all the beautiful and cute pups they'd choose from.

A comfortable silence engulfed the place, leaving the couple to hear only the sound of crickets around and car honks from afar. Taehyung dropped the phone he had been texting with and excused himself to get a drink while Maya continued gazing at the stars.

The sudden notification on her mate's phone made her jump and glance at the device for a second but it was enough for her to see the text from someone she knew as Taehyung's colleague.

Maya's heart was pained when she read that text and it left her wondering what Taehyung's reply would be. Of course, there were times when she dreamt of carrying Taehyung's child but she knew very well that it would remain a dream and she moved on from thinking about things that she couldn't control. The text from Bogyum made her feel some type of way and mostly the feeling was a sad one because she started to feel like she couldn't give Taehyung the gift of having a child from his knot, a symbol of their love and bond.

All the while Maya was lost in her thoughts, Taehyung had already come out with two glasses of wine and had called the female up to three times before nudging her shoulder, causing her to snap back to reality.

"What bothers you bubba?" Taehyung asked worriedly.

"I don't want the pup anymore". She blurted out to the surprise of her mate.

"Ha...ha... ha. Really funny, I'm laughing so hard". The male sat down and dropped the glasses of wine on the table, a smile still evident on his face.

In a split second, Taehyung sharply looked into his mate's eyes but there was no form of amusement in her expression. That was when he realized she was serious.

"But you wanted them a minute ago". Taehyung chucked, still finding the situation funny.

"I said I don't want the pup anymore!" Maya raised her voice.

"Don't talk to me in that voice". The male alpha warned.

Maya just stood up and angrily entered their bedroom, leaving her husband to wonder what he did to deserve such a tone and a sudden change of decision. The man ditched drinking and stargazing to go talk to his mate but Maya didn't turn to him, respond to his questions or react to anything he did.

In the middle of the night or probably very early in the morning, Maya's eyes blinked open and she turned to see her Alpha deep in sleep. Quietly she got up from the bed and picked up Taehyung's phone from the nightstand. Then she began searching for Bogyum's text. Maya just wanted to read the entire conversation between Taehyung and Bogyum.

TAE: We're happy

with our decision.

But wouldn't

you prefer to have a

pup from your knot?

: I would like that but

I am very happy about the

pup we'll adopt.

: Well, you know no

alpha is fulfilled unless they

have their own flesh and blood.

I know but I won't be

selfish by risking Maya's life

Maya sighed after reading the conversation, unable to conclude her thoughts on Taehyung's opinion about having his own pup. She glanced at the sleeping alpha, taking in his ethereal features. 'He has good genes she thought.

'How could she let Taehyung's good genes go to waste. Taehyung deserves pups from his knot, pups that look like him, pups that have his blood running through their veins'. Thoughts were running wild in Maya's head all night and before the sun rose, she decided to give Taehyung the greatest gift an Alpha ever desired.

Pups.

It was already six in the morning by the time Maya started preparing to visit her doctor. She was already doing her makeup when Taehyung woke up. The man was surprised to see his wife up and ready to leave at such an early hour of the morning. It was usually him waking up for work while Maya slept but that morning was the other way around.

"Morning my angel". Taehyung kissed her cheek and stood behind her as she applied lipstick.

"Morning Alpha". She paused her makeup to look at her husband through the mirror, giving him a small smile as he massaged her shoulders.

Taehyung was happy she responded to his greeting. It meant they were cool unlike the attitude she gave him the previous night.

"Did you change your mind about the adoption application?" The male alpha asked .

"I told you I don't want pups anymore". Maya continued her makeup.

"Then where are you going to? We planned to submit the form today, so if that's not where you are going, can you tell me?" Taehyung continued massaging her even though confusion was written all over his face.

"To see my mom". She lied.

"And you're leaving this early, is she okay?" The male became worried and his mind was already preparing to go with his wife.

"Oh yes, we umm...we just have some female stuff to discuss".

Taehyung gave her a look that showed he knew she was lying but he decided to nod his head and play along.

Whatever she was hiding from him would surely not remain hidden forever. Right?

"As an Alpha, your chances of getting pregnant is quite low but that doesn't mean you are infertile. You just need to take some vitamins and stay off birth control". The doctor explained to Maya who listened attentively with both ears perked up to collect every word.

"I would like to have the vitamins". Maya demanded.

"Mrs. Kim., you already know the outcome of..."

"Just give me the damn vitamins". The alpha hit the table with her fist, threatening the doctor with her alpha dominance.

"I could lose my license for giving you these vitamins. You could die if you eventually carry pups and birth them".

"This is our little secret and if anyone else hears about this...I know where you live". The alpha smirked and stretched out her hand to collect the vitamins.

"Take these three times a day and these other ones immediately after having sex". The doctor indicated even though she was filled with fear.

Maya was embarking on a journey of no return, all because of love. Was giving Taehyung his own flesh and blood worth taking the risk of losing her own life?
