《The Snake In My Dreams》Ch. 25

Remus was carving a dildo out of a block of wood. It would be painful, but he was willing to test it. To be more precise, he was dying to test it.
Not physically dying, though. Figuratively.
God, he spends too much time with Logan.
A swift knock on the door grabbed his attention, causing him to huff and put down his arts and crafts project. Really, who had the audacity to knock on his door before he had come out of his room?
Remus paused. What if it was Janus, come to confess his feelings for him?
He quickly dusted some wood dust off of his clothes, and fixed his hair slightly.
He swung open the door, a suave smile on his face. "H--Oh, fuck. It's you."
"Hello, Remus." Roman said, giving him an awkward smile. "How are you?"
"What do you want?" Remus asked, giving him an unimpressed look.
"I want answers." Roman said. "Why did you sabotage our date?"
"Hmm? Whatever do you mean?" Remus asked, opening the door a little wider to let Roman inside.
He didn't really want his brother inside of his room, but he couldn't ignore the possibility of Janus accidentally hearing this conversation.
Roman walked in, almost instinctively. "Don't play dumb. I saw you there. We talked."
"Are you sure you didn't imagine that, brother dearest? I heard you hit your head pretty hard." Remus hummed, closing the door.
"You pushed me!" Roman exclaimed.
"Maybe I did, maybe I didn't." Remus shrugged, smirking at him. "You have proof?"
"I don't need proof! I saw you!" Roman yelled. "Look, I just wanna know why. Just tell me why, then I'll go."
Remus remained silent, crossing his arms. Roman looked at him expectantly, refusing to back down.

"...I envy you, Roman. Did you know that?"
"You--What?" Roman asked, looking bewildered.
"Everyone loves you! Patton, Virgil, Logan....Janus." Remus scowled. "And me? I'm the 'evil twin.' The other side of the funhouse mirror."
Roman flinched, looking ashamed of himself. "That was a cruel thing to say, I'm sorry."
"Whatever." Remus waved him off. "I just don't get it! I get monsters, hatred, and these fucking thoughts all the time! And what do you get? Praise? Admiration? Respect?"
"So...you're mad at me because I have everything you want?" Roman asked.
Remus laughed. "I'm not mad because you have everything."
"Then--"
"I'm mad because I finally had something that was mine, and you took that too."
Roman fell silent, brow furrowing. Remus could see him trying to connect the dots in his head.
Remus huffed, looking away from Roman. This was stupid.
He had been imagining this moment for awhile. The moment he would finally confront his brother. He didn't really picture it going like this.
Roman's eyes suddenly widened, and he snapped his gaze to Remus.
"You--?!"
"Remember when I talked to you in the Imagination a couple of months ago?" Remus asked. "Remember when I confided in you, my brother, about my feelings?"
"Remus--"
"A-And then, to my suprise, I turn around and find you with a bouquet of yellow fucking roses in your hands!" Remus snapped.
"I'm--"
"Don't you dare apologize!" Remus screamed, sneering at him. "I swear to god, I'll rip your fucking tongue out if you apologize! It's too late!"
Roman clamped his mouth shut.
"Why do you have to be so fucking selfish all the time?! You're such a greedy little bitch!" Remus yelled. "Ever since the day we split, you've just taken everything you could get your hands on!"

Remus was pacing now, running his hands through his hair wildly.
"You're so arrogant! And so stupid! Annoying! Careless! Narcissistic! Impulsive! Rapacious! Tactless!" Remus spat. "And you're so--so--"
He glanced at his brother, who was silently listening to him.
"So good." Remus hissed, hating the way his eyes began to sting. He harshly wiped them, ignoring his brother's look of concern. "And I'm just...not."
Remus sighed, slumping down onto his bed. "I can see why he chose you. You're a good person, Roman."
Roman hesitantly walked over, and sat down next to Remus.
"...I don't know what to say." Roman murmured. Remus laughed humorlessly.
"Then don't say anything. Just leave. Pretend you never heard any of this. I won't mess with you anymore."
"I can't do that, Remus." Roman told him.
"I know you can't. That why you're a better side than I am." Remus chuckled. "I'll tell Janus what I did. Happy?"
"I can break up with him, if you'd like."
Remus snapped his head over to Roman. "...what?"
"Don't misunderstand me, I love him more than I've ever loved anyone before." Roman sighed. "But...I can break up with him if it's hurting you. I care about you, Ree. I don't want to just ignore your feelings now that I'm aware of them."
Remus wasn't sure what it was.
But something about that just pissed him off.
"Are you being fucking serious?!" He yelled, shoving Roman off of the bed. "So you're just going to ignore your own feelings for my sake?!"
"I can't just act like this didn't happen, Remus!" Roman exclaimed. "I'd feel terrible! Knowing that I just--"
"Shut up!" Remus roared, summoning a throwing knife.
He threw it at Roman, who was barely able to catch it.
"How do you think I would feel, huh?! Knowing that I broke...you two..." Remus trailed off, eyes widening.
Isn't that exactly what he had been doing?
Ignoring his brother's feelings, ruining their relationship, isn't that what he's been doing all this time?
"Remus?" Roman tilted his head, looking concerned.
"...what should we do, then?" Remus mumbled.
"I think you should confess your feelings to him." Roman said. "Janus and I...we'll take a break. I'll let him see if you two would work. And if he chooses you, I won't complain."
"I don't know, Roman. That's--"
"Just think about it, okay?"
"...I will."

Getting Hard (Journey of a Tank)
Herald Stone always built tank characters in every MMORPG he played. To be immortal—that was his first Goal, a simple childhood dream. However, the turbulent realities of life put an end to his gaming days. Years passed, and Herald Stone, now having attained success and stability, was presented with the opportunity to redeem himself...to fulfill his first Goal. Trivial? Childish? Others might think so. But Herald Stone always fulfilled his Goals—every single one. No matter what. Immortality beckoned in Mother Core Online, and this time Herald Stone would answer. Choosing a long-forgotten race, hidden away in an unknown region, the journey of an immortal tank begins. This is the tale of Herald Stone...getting hard. Schedule: Mon-Wed-Fri-Sat, 10am Central/ 3pm GMT. ~1.8k-2.3k words per chapter. Also published on Scribblehub. My other ongoing story: REND | Royal Road Expect a focus on building a true tank in MMORPGs. Heavy game elements and numbers are present. But actual math will take a backseat to strategies involving skill builds and synergies that steadily become more complex while remaining understandable. The main character is atypical in LitRPGs or web novels as a whole. He might take some getting used to. Character arcs will develop over a long period. What you see now will be different as the main character changes. The start of Getting Hard is slow-paced (more so than others of the genre) and includes world-building and character development before focusing on the LitRPG.

The 48 Laws of Power in Practice
Discover how power works in the world, through true stories and real-world applications. In the game of power, we all play - as either conscious or unconscious players. So we can't afford not to know the rules. The ** chapters have the most outrageous content. In each chapter, I will be summarizing one of the laws and how it can be applied to current events and pop culture. Some of you have told me the stories are what you enjoy the most. They are real, raw, and anonymous so that others may learn from my mistakes. There will be cringe-worthy stories of self-sabotage, but perhaps also some unlikely triumphs. Some of the details are changed to protect the innocent, (or perhaps guilty). "The 48 Laws of Power" by Robert Greene illustrates truths about power, through philosophy and lessons from three thousand years of history, which still hold true today. There is a lot to learn from each chapter. I encourage you to go on this journey with me by reflecting on how each law might apply to you. Together, may we learn from the past and take control of the future.
