《naruto character one shots》Summer Shanty [Obito Uchiha]

The sun had almost set when you and your three friends first set foot on the beach. There was a crescent moon casting a dull glow upon the waves that peacefully crashed against the sand you dug your toes into. You dug your hands into the oversized sweatshirt you were wearing to protect yourself from the breeze.
Kakashi and Rin were admiring the sky, trying to distinguish planets from stars while you remained silent, listening to the hum of music coming from the other end of the beach. This was your last night staying at the 'Summer Shanty', a beach resort in a cute, touristy town. It was meant to be your last family getaway before Konoha High resumes session, though your parents preferred doing activities within the hotel, while you luckily made friends with teenagers that loved to be outside and honestly, just wanted to be away from their families.
Tonight was your last night, and you couldn't help but feel a tinge of melancholy. Your peaceful, nautical atmosphere will soon be replaced by the busy, hectic school year and you'll be surrounded by classmates, all whom you don't particularly get along with.
You walked in sync next to Obito Uchiha, a teenage boy who came from the same village as the other two you've been hanging out with. Normally he's rambunctious and high on energy, a trait the others seem to find annoying, though you can't help but think of as endearing. Tonight, he's quiet, more somber and lost in thought, it set you on edge, his emotions contagious.
"What's the matter, Obito?" You questioned, watching the imprint of your toes wash away with every cascading wave.
"I don't know, it's just, tonight's our last night. I don't want to go home. I don't want it to end. I'm transferring to a new school this year so I'm not gonna have any friends. I won't be seeing Kakashi and Rin anymore. I'm just really gonna miss this I guess..." he gestured to your surroundings, and also the two kids lagging behind.

You put an arm around his shoulder reassuringly, and he smelled like Sicilian blood oranges, the hotel's signature shampoo and bodywash line. His shoulders relaxed and a light smile crossed his lips, though very unconvincing.
The murmur of the others' conversation got closer, and you decided to lag behind, wanting to speak with Rin.
"I feel so bad for Obito, he seems so sad. He doesn't want to go home, what should I do?" You whispered to the girl, watching Kakashi replace your spot next to the Uchiha.
Her light brown bob swayed back and forth and she bit her lip, watching the boys kick sand and converse quietly amongst each other. You noticed Obito's posture, once again, sag with despair.
"Well, he's going to a new school this year and back home, we were his only friends. He's a little manic, if you haven't noticed, but he means well. As for leaving, he's probably also a bit sad because he's gonna miss you too," she replied in a hushed tone.
"Why would he miss me? We've all only met just this week." You asked, furrowing your eyebrows.
Rin laughed, nudging your ribcage lightly, "Haven't you noticed, he's developed a bit of a crush on you, {Name.} Oh, how clueless..." she facepalmed, and gazed at the stars.
A blush crept across your cheeks with this revelation. Pulling out a piece of saltwater taffy hidden inside your pocket, you ate the sticky novelty treat, which was ironically labeled beach plum. You twiddled with the wrapper to distract yourself not knowing how to feel about this new information.
"I had no idea.." You replied wistfully.
"How could you have no idea? He's been hanging around you the most, not to mention he gave you his sweatshirt! That's such a dead giveaway. It was his idea that we make friends with you in the first place. And don't deny it, {Name}, I can tell you like him too." She playfully teased.

"Fine. Maybe a little..." you confessed, smiling widely, the dimples in your cheeks becoming more and more pronounced as you grinned ear to ear.
"A little? Go get him, girl! What're you waiting for!" She whisper-yelled, while simultaneously giving you a shove forward.
Rin called for Kakashi, and Obito turned around quickly with a cocked eyebrow, assumingly curious about the commotion.
You adjusted the chopsticks that you normally kept in your messy bun before catching up with the boy, your pace quick. Blood rushed through your ears and you felt your heart in your throat and anxious butterflies in your stomach.
Obito peered down at you as you once again, resumed walking side by side, though this time you clumsily reached for his hand, tugging at his fingers. Your bright blue eyes met his and he got the hint, interlocking your fingers with a searing blush.
You felt embarrassed. Not only because you've never liked a boy who coincidentally likes you back, but also because this time you had an audience and they all knew your secret.
Obito still seemed a bit confused though, and he peered down at you, his eyebrows furrowed and his mouth agape, as if he was looking for what to say.
"I like you too," you admitted quickly, breaking the silence and looking into his eyes, with such desperation and puppy love, as if you were going to cling on to each and every breath, holding on by just a thread.
Obito searched your face in disbelief, half of him believing it to be a joke but praying otherwise. The sun had set and your features were like an astronomer's landscape: your eyes were bright and twinkling, as bright as the sun, a constellation of freckles peppered your nose, cheeks and forehead, and dimples reminiscent of crescent moons indented both your cheeks.
You hadn't realized that you both stopped walking until you could hear Kakashi coming up the rear.
"Kiss her, you idiot!"
He was hesitant at first, and it wasn't until he could hear that whimper of longing emit from the back of your throat before he finally realized this was real- you meant it.
Obito pecked your lips, very quickly and very softly. Though it wasn't enough- you latched onto the collar of his shirt and pulled him closer. Your lips grazed and then finally they meshed together, sloppily, though nevertheless perfect. He smelled so tantalizingly good and you could hear the hoots and hollering of not only your friends, but passerby's. A hand stroked your cheek and the other firmly held onto your waist, his fingers contracting the fabric of your, well his, sweatshirt.
After you pulled away, you let your forehead linger against his, gazing into his underratedly beautiful brown eyes. Everything about this boy was sincere, authentic, 100% uncompromised and words could not come close to explain your admiration for that quality he possesses.
When the moment had passed, the four of you walked side by side, hands interlocked; it was a dream, and one that you too, wished would never ever end.
"Obito, what school are you transferring to?" you asked, still desperately clinging onto his hand, and settling even more into his sweatshirt, which you vowed you'd never ever take off.
"Konohagakure High."
