《It All Started With A Proposal》Chapter Eleven: The Baby's Coming

7 Months Later
"You are a miracle, you are a blessing from above. You brought joy to my soul... And pleasure to my eyes." I sang the lyrics of the song Baba used always sing to me when I was young. I can't believe that I'm having a baby girl. "How come you never told me you could sing?" Adam asked as he rubbed my huge stomach. I shrugged my shoulders in response and laid down on the sofa. My due date is any day now so I just can't wait to give birth already.
"I guess because I'm not that good." I responded as I flipped through random channels on the T.V. "You're right." He smirked making me throw a pillow at him. "Just kidding babe." He put his hands up in surrender. "Whatever babe." I mocked. Yes, I'm moody today but could you blame me? After a little while Adam and I left to do some errands for the house and finish furnishing the baby's new room.
"What do you want to get?" Adam asked as he started up the engine to his car. "We need bibs, diapers, wipes-" I was quickly cut off before I could finish the rest of my sentence. "Not for the baby, for you. These days you haven't been doing anything for yourself and I'm starting to worry. Babe you need to take care of yourself as well. So what do you want?" He said with concern evident on his face. I guess I haven't really been doing anything for myself for the past couple of months.
It's just, having a baby inside of you makes you only think about the baby and not about yourself. "It's sweet that you're concerned but you don't have to be. What I want is what the baby needs." I reassured him. He nodded his head slowly before planting a kiss in my forehead. "Okay but later I'm going to take you out." He stated.
I got lucky with this one alhamdulilah, I thought to myself with a slight smile lingering on my lips.

"I like this one." Adam said as he held a small onesie that said Daddy's Little Girl on it. "It's cute." I held it in my hands already picturing our baby wearing this. As we were exiting Target and heading to our car,I couldn't help but feel something dripping down my pants. Once I realized what was happening I stopped walking and grabbed Adam. "I-I think my water just broke!" I tried not to panic.

I mean I knew it was going to happen one of these days but I didn't think it would happen in such a public place. "Let's go!" He quickly helped me into the car and drove as quickly as he could to the hospital. "It's okay just breathe in and out. We'll be at the hospital before you know it." He reassured me. I did as told and started to breathe and out to calm myself down.
As soon as he parked his car at the hospital he helped me get out of the car and inside the hospital. "My wife's in labor!" He told the receptionist in a hurry. Immediately a gurney came my way and I laid down, heading into one of the rooms. Bismillah, I can't help but feel anxious. "Don't be nervous babe, I'm right behind you."
I called my father-in-law immediately after Zamzam was taken into one of the many rooms in this hospital. After talking to him I also rang up Abdirahman and Amir so they could hurry and come. "I'm scared..." Zamzam said as she gripped me tightly. I rubbed her hand and leaned down so I could look her in the eyes. "It's okay, I'm with you." I kissed her finger tips.
For a second she seemed comforted but that soon went away when she let out a giant scream. "The baby's ready to come. We just need you to push Ms. Amin. Can you do that for us?" One of the doctors stated. "On the count of three push. One, Two, Three!"
"Ahhhhh!"Zamzam yelled.
It was hard to see her in this much pain. Suddenly the door flew open and in came Zamzam's father. "Baba..." My wife cried, tears leaking down her cheek. He walked to the other side of the bed and held her hand as well. "You could do this habibti."
She started shake her head left and right. "I don't know if I can." She continued to cry. "No, believe me sweetie when I say you can and you will. Where's the little girl that said she could conquer anything? The little girl that got into a fight with five different girls because they wouldn't stop bothering her and ended up winning? Trust me you're just like your mother, stubborn, hotheaded, but strong. That's why I have no doubt in my mind that you could do this." At this point she started to calm down and continue to push like the doctor instructed. "We're here for you habibti."

That's when the sound of a baby girl's cry was heard in the what was once quiet room. That sound brought more joy to my ears than I could possibly describe. "Congratulations!" The doctor said as she and some other doctors held my baby girl in their hands. After washing her up, they brought her back to where we were anxiously waiting. "C-Can I see her?" Zamzam outstretched her arms, waiting for the baby to be placed in her hands. I towered over her as she was holding the baby, our baby. "She's so precious." Zamzam stated as a tear rolled down her cheek once again.
"She has your smile." I replied, gently stroking our baby's cheek. I can't believe that this beautiful baby is my daughter. Ya Allah I promise to be the best father I could possibly be. I promise to love her and protect her from all of the harms of this world. I promise to be there for her and be the father I never had. I promise to stand by her and my wife and love them until the day I die. I could feel a gentle tear rolling down my cheek so I quickly wiped it away with the back of my palm.
"She's adorable Mashallah." My father-in-law said as he gently picked her up then placed her in my arms. It felt weird in a good way to finally be holding her. "Hey, Maysa." I kissed the top of her forehead. That's when she looked up at me for the first time. "It's your dad. I just want you to know that I love you baby girl."
I loved the sight I saw before me, my husband holding our first child. It's moments like these that are the most important and that you'll never forget. A couple minutes later Abdirahmam and Ihsan came rushing in along with baby Samira. "Congratulations!!" My sister-in-law said as she tackled me in a bear hug. After a second or two Adam handed Maysa to Abdi so he could hold her. "She's looks so much like her mother Mashallah. Hey baby girl, it's your uncle Abdi. I already know that I'm going to be your favorite uncle." My brother said with a humorous laugh as he swayed her back and fourth gently in his arms.
A little while later Amir and Aliyah came to pay a quick visit then after that everybody left to give us time to be alone. Suddenly my phone started ringing and I noticed Isa was trying to FaceTime me. "Hey, I heard you gave birth today. Samiyah and I are taking the next flight to New York tomorrow." He said before I could even get a word out. "That's great! Do you want to see Mays?" I flipped the camera and showed them Maysa as she soundly slept. "Aw Mashallah, she's so adorable!" Samiyah said as appeared on the screen. "We'll be there soon In Shaa Allah." He said before hanging up the phone.
"Hey, I bought you some food." Adam said as he walked into the room and closed the door behind him. I couldn't help but stare at the subway bag he had in his hand in delight. "I got you a sub with all of your favorite ingredients." He sat down and handed me the food along with a soda. "Thank goodness you know me so well." I smiled at my loving husband.
He then shifted his gaze to Maysa then walked up to where she was laying down and held her in his hands. "Allah really blessed us, didn't he?" He said as he brought her to me and placed her in my lap. "He sure has." I responded, finally our family felt complete. I'm so thankful towards Allah for granting me two blessings.
