《It All Started With A Proposal》Chapter Ten: Goodbyes, What's So Good About Them?

It's days like today that perfectly match the definition of bitter-sweet, the bitter part being that Isa and Samiyah are going to leave a week after their wedding and the sweet part being that they're going to be married. Today is the day before the wedding so you could imagine how crazy things are right now. It's like no one could just stop and relax for a moment. I'm trying to help as much as I can but every time I want to do something they're telling me to sit down and not worry because it isn't good for the baby. Like right now when I tried to help decorate the place where the wedding's going to be at both Baba and Adam wouldn't let me.
Sighing, I sat down on a chair and scrolled through my phone. "Hey babe I'm going to go get food, do you want anything?" My husband said as he kissed the top of my head "Yeah can you get me some chipotlé? You know my usual order." I smiled at the thought of food. "Sure thing, I'll be back in twenty In Shaa Allah. Do you want anything Baba?" He asked my dad politely.
"No thank you, son." Baba replied with a slight shake of his head.
"Alright, I'll be back soon." Adam responded as he headed towards his car.
After a little while I noticed Baba had a a certain look on his face as he was talking on the phone. Wait a minute, I know that look. It's the same look he had when we first heard that mom passed away. Something in my gut was telling me something is wrong. As soon as he hung up I walked towards him. "Baba what's going on?" I asked worriedly.
He shook his head.
"Nothing habibti don't worry."
Hearing him say that made me feel even more annoyed than usual."Baba I'm not a naïve little girl anymore so you could tell me." I pleaded. He sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose and shut his eyes. "I'm just having a little difficulty at work that's all. I'm sorry that I made you worry unnecessarily but nothing's wrong. So relax habibti." Baba responded.
"Are you sure that's all?" I asked just to make sure. "Yes sweetie." He reassured. I decided to just trust him and not ask anymore questions. If it was something really big he would tell us.

"How does this taste?" Grams asked as she fed me a piece of her famous Baklava. "Really good!" I exclaimed as I devoured it. Words cannot describe how much I love my grandmother and her cooking. When I was younger, my teacher used to ask me what reminds me of home I'd always say Grams's cooking. It's just something about it that makes you think of home.

Right now we're making all of the food for tomorrow and let me tell you it's a lot. "Ooh this looks good!" Ihsan gasped as she walked into the kitchen."Try this," I said as I grabbed a a piece of the Baklava and fed it to her. The moment she ate it her eyes widened and a huge smile came across her face.
"Grams, you're amazing." She exclaimed as she hugged Grams.
"Stop," Grams smiled as she set another batch of it on the counter. "Ihsan I'm going to need you to help with the pasta and Zamzam I'm going to need you to finish frosting the cake." Grams ordered. We immediately set off to work individually. By the time we were done cooking it was around midnight.
Suddenly the front door opened and Isa came inside. "Assalamualaikum." He shouted as he walked into the kitchen. The moment he saw all the food we made his eyes lit up. "Wow you guys made all of this? I feel so loved." He brought a hand to his heart pretending to cry. "Get over yourself bro." I replied, putting the frosting down. Suddenly he put me in a headlock and started rubbing his knuckles against my head. "What'd you say?" He laughed.
As I continued to to struggle under Isa's grip, both Grams and Ihsan began laughing at the scene before them. Gee thanks for the help, I thought sarcastically. "Ow!" I put a hand in my stomach and feigned hurt. Immediately Isa let go of me and they all stared at me in alarm. "Are you okay?" He panicked.
"Yup!" I smiled as I crossed my arms over my chest.
"You're so dead!" He started to chase me around the kitchen making Ihsan and Grams roll over in laughter once again. "You guys still act like children." Grams exclaimed with a nostalgic smile on her face. It just now dawned on me that we won't be able to act like this again. Just thinking of that makes me feel sad.
After cleaning up and putting the food away, I called Samiyah and went to her house. By the time I got there Aliyah and her were already sitting around the living room examining Sam's wedding dress. "Hey girls!" I said as I walked to where they were sitting. "Hey, chica." Aliyah responded as she wrapped an arm around my shoulder.
The first thing Samiyah did when she walked up to me was rub my growing baby bump. "How do you look so big already even though you're only 3 months?" She said as she joined in on the hug. "I don't know by this point I think people will start to think I'm carrying twins." I joked. "I still can't believe my baby's having a baby!" Aliyah gushed as she wiped off fake tears. "I'm so happy for you. But anyways back to business."

I Week Later
Everyone gathered at the airport to see Samiyah and Isa leave. Most of us were trying hard not to cry while others were bawling their eyes out. Such as Grams, she wasn't able to control her tears all day today. I don't know why because it's not like this is the first time he's leaving. Maybe it's because of the fact that he's now officially married, I don't know. I myself am feeling really emotional too mainly because of all of the hormones I'm feeling. "I'm going to miss you guys so much." Samiyah cried as she attacked both Aliyah and me in a hug. For a moment the three of us just stayed there, in each other's embrace, wiping our tears away. "Make sure to call us once you land." I told her as I wiped my cheek with the back of my palm.
Samiyah nodded. "Don't worry I will, In Shaa Allah."
"I still can't believe you're leaving, it feels just like yesterday when we would be hanging out watching movies in Zamzam's room." Aliyah continued to cry. "It's gonna be different without you." We then hugged once again. "I'll call and FaceTime you guys everyday. In Shaa Allah I will also try to be back before Zam's due date. It will be like I never left." Samiyah reassured us. A couple of seconds later we let go of each other and I waited for Isa to be done talking to Grams and Baba before I went up to him. "I'm going to miss you, goofball." I said as I messed up his curly hair.
"Same here baby sis, I'll be back soon though In Shaa Allah so don't miss me too much." He responded as he wrapped an arm around my shoulder. "I know I haven't said this much but you know I'm proud of you, right? For the past couple of years you've been through so much and I'm really impressed by the way you've handled things. Even when you didn't need to, you took up a dare and changed someones life permanently and even married that person. If ma saw you right now she'd be really proud just like we all are." My brother said as the grip around my shoulder tightened. At this point tears wouldn't stop running down my cheeks. The moment he saw them he wiped them away with his sleeve. "Hey I said those things to make you smile not cry."
I cleared my throat and wiped the remaining tears away once again. "I'm hormonal, being pregnant can do that to you. But thanks for saying that bro, it really meant a lot. If mom saw you right now she'd be past proud. At the age of 21, you've already achieved your dream and changed lives and still are changing them every single day. You know that day you were telling your story on ESPN? After seeing that I couldn't be even more proud of you. Now you have even bigger and better things in store for you In Shaa Allah." I responded as I tried my best to control myself once again.
"This is getting too emotional." He said as he wiped fake tears. Just then a voice was heard on the speakers signalling that it's time to get on the plane. Before they got on Samiyah and Isa once again gave everyone hugs.
"Have a safe trip bro!" Adam said as he ruffled Isa's hair.
"Don't forget about us." Amir added as he held Aliyah's hand.
"I will In Shaa Allah. Oh and Amir don't worry I won't forget you or your corny jokes." Isa retorted with a slight smile as he and Sam waved goodbye to all of us. We watched as they both got their luggage and boarded the plane. "I'm going to miss him," Abdi said as he slung an arm over my shoulder. Me too, I thought sadly.

For the rest of the day I was laying in bed binge watching Korean Dramas, well that was before Adam forcibly removed me from bed and insisted we go out and get fresh air. At first I refused to but after a while I gave in because well, who could say no to him? Especially after his constant begging for the past twenty minutes straight. "I'm tireedddd!" I whined, pouting at him. What? I'm a lazy person. "We've only been walking for five minutes." He exclaimed, looking at his watch. "Yeah and that's five minutes too long!" I retorted.
"Fine, let's just walk for another five minutes then we could go back in." He sighed.
"Thank you."
We continued to walk side by side in our neighborhood which was surprisingly peaceful. Just walking in silence and being outside felt actually a little nice. If only I didn't get tired and out of breath easily I'd walk around even more. The old me would've been able to walk around for ages and not get tired. But since I'm pregnant things are obviously different. I can't wait until I have my baby and finally be able to see his or her face for the very first time. I wonder how it would feel holding him or her in my hands. Just thinking about that makes me smile.
Suddenly Adam gripped my hand tightly and gave it a light kiss. "I love you and I love our baby, I just wanted to say that."
"I love you too and so does he or she." I replied as I rubbed my growing baby bump.
"We'll be great parents In Shaa Allah." He said as placed his hand there as well.
In Shaa Allah.

Valley City. Up until around twenty years ago, it had been a nowhere place. Just a bunch of towns with no real reputation. Now, though, it's known for its progression in medical science. The Medical Technologies Company. It seemed to suddenly appear out of nowhere in the middle of what's now called City Center. Once just a manufacturer and developer of medical equipment, it eventually started to dabble in medical research. Before anyone even knew it, they were the leading research entities, with five seperate buildings in Valley City alone, all towering above everything else in the area. Some say they even swayed the local government into combining the old towns into one city and popularized prosthetic limbs as fashion themselves, but that's just gossip. Matthew Vega. A 25-year-old college dropout, tricked by MediTech into being experimented on under the pretense of participating in a clinical trial for rent money. After being broken out of their facility nearly a year after having her limbs replaced, then having her liberator captured, she seeks a way to dismantle the company or save the one she cares about. NOTE: Currently I am working on a rewrite. I will post a new chapter once that is ready, listed as V2CH-001. I hope you look forward to it.
