《GCSE Descriptive Writing》The Stowaway

The seat was wildly uncomfortable.
Cheap plastic; flimsy and breakable, bent forcefully into a sharp curve that no human's back could ever agreeably fit against. With everything that happened that day, this seat was what astounded me the most. I would never understand why, in an airport where one must sit for hours on end, they would place chairs of such immense intolerability.
I shifted, and the plastic dug into my shoulder blades as I craned my neck to survey the room. Hundreds of people were lined up infront of conveyer belts and tills manned by agitated airport workers, everyone eager or flustered or somewhere in between. They bustled in their queues, itching to get out, as if they had been jammed against their objections into this endless flow of foot traffic. As if they weren't here of their own accord, waiting impatiently, harassing the staff and hushing their children, all so they could get to their ski resorts, their seaside villas.
My eyes flicked down to my phone for the fifth time that minute and as it's light illuminated my palm my pulse jumped with panic. It was 4.32am - just eight minutes before my flight's gate would close. Yet I had no choice but to wait in this seat, ignoring the overpowering smell of jetlag in the form of overpriced coffee, and praying that my passport was a good enough fake.
A garbled message sounded over the tannoy, a low scratchy tone that spoke in such a way that the words ricocheting off the glass walls of the cavernous room were indecipherable. But there was something familiar in the cadence of the announcement and a few moments later, I realised it was my name they had spoke. I was, according to them, 'officially late', as if I needed reminding. I almost expected every face in the room to turn and stare at me in judgement, but of course I was a stranger here, and for what I was doing that could only be a positive.

I was close to accepting defeat and going to reclaim my luggage, when my prayers were answered.
I heard the screech of the buggy before I saw it coming, the sound of the tyres screaming across the floor like a wailing animal making me wince and turn my head. Then, the buggy was halted infront of me, and a man in a red uniform was calling to me.
"Get in! Your passport's been authenticated," The man whose name tag identified him as 'Bill' grinned maniacally at me, "You're good to go."
His enthusiasm was a mystery to me, until he smoothed the sides of the plastic steering wheel with a frankly alarming passion. Bill was the very picture of a child finally allowed to play with his shiny, albeit fairly small, new toy.
But Bill was also my messiah in this moment so I didn't linger on his strange eagerness.
"You're serious?" I laughed deliriously, "They're letting me get on the flight?"
He yelled a frustrated agreement and I quickly squeezed into the buggy, checking my phone one last time: 4.34am, and a text from my brother.
Did you fool them?
As we tore through the airport, the buggy rattling at the speed as it barrelled forward, more by the sheer will of the man infront of me than anything else, the scenes all around us blurred into a drab stew of suitcases and tired families.
I tucked my phone back into my pocket triumphantly, and didn't bother to text back. My arrival in Paris would by my answer.

This short writing excercise based off an image will hopefully show how you can write effectively without a ton of imagery. If metaphors and similes aren't your strong suit, you don't necessarily have to pack your writing with description. Like I've said: don't force a writing style that isn't your own.
Of course, you need a certain amount of imagery to show technique, but it doesn't have to be a sensory overload of poetic metaphors. You can write description without personification, similies etc. And you can make up for that with an extra character, mystery, wit or dialogue.

Ancient Bones: The Changed Ones book 1 (Post-Post Apocalypse LitRPG)
Is it truly an RPG Apocalypse... if no one can see the RPG? Generations after the Fall, Mankind has achieved a balance in a world it is no longer the master of. But your prospects in this Malthusian world are limited. Johanna Milton and her friends have an answer: delve into Ancient ruins, avoid Changed beasts and mana pockets, and salvage Ancient materials, collectibles, and trinkets to sell. It pays well if you avoid the perils of the Ancient world. But when they find the skeleton of an Ancient, their lives take a strange turn. Suddenly, Talents straight out of fantasy novels become theirs. While they try to make sense of what happens, eyes turn to them, to the four who seem to break all rules. Or are they merely following them? Because, in the Beyond where he's spent 150 years waiting, one dead Ancient knows the truth. Douglas Moore has played those games often enough when he was alive to make sense of the System that rules the Changed world. He can no longer act on his own, but he has access to the Interface. And four people for which he can bring whatever it takes to face the world. Change is coming. The Changed Ones is a slow-burn litrpg fantasy trilogy (Ancient Bones, Ancient Books, Ancient Bonds) set on Earth, 150 years after the RPG Apocalypse... which mostly failed. It is an homage to the venerable ancient RPGs of the Golden Box era, the Baldur's Gates, and many others, offering adventure where You must gather your party before venturing forth. Keywords: LitRPG, realistic setting, low-leveling, post-post-apocalypse, fantasy earth, slow-burn, secondary POVs, female primary MC, team adventure, worldbuilding. Trigger warnings: casual swearing, adult innuendo (no explicit scenes whatsoever, though). Oh, and potentially a bit of politics. Bonus content: a Litrpg Easter Egg hunt. With lots of eggs across the book, some easy, some hard to find. Current score: 6/20 (20 eggs, 6 found) Publication schedule: on hold until September for book 2.

Myth of The World's Trees
And Simon answered their call with a single statement that nobody understood "Et super mos absit hoc hodie!" "Yah!" "WWWaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!" "AAAlllllaaaaallllaaaaallllaaaa!" "EeEEellllleeeeeelllllleeeeeeuuuuuuu!" I, too, yelled a battle cry at the top of my lungs. I had no idea what Simon had just spouted but from Camilla's giggling, I could guess that Simon thought that spouting nonsense was his way of getting out of the earlier predicament. "I forbid death upon this day," Camilla said. "What?" I answered a bit at a loss. "Ancient Latin," she replied smugly, "He said 'I forbid death upon this day'." I laughed aloud "Then he is gonna be really disappointed in everyone here," Camilla did not reply and instead took a deep breath. I did the same, zoning out everything in my surroundings. The environment became a world of electrical pulses traveling across several networks. I perceived the world through my lightning and sped my heartbeat to inhuman levels. I was present now, at this moment, at this point in time. I could feel the electrifying air saturating my lungs, the electrified ground vibrating at the rhythm of the approaching enemy. Then I took a step forward, everyone followed in tandem. Camilla the first, and then the others. Then I took a second step, and this time everyone followed simultaneously. Third step… Fourth step… Fifth step… Then light jogging… Speeding up… Running … Running faster…. Then suddenly, everyone disappeared into motes of light particles that re-constructed itself hundreds of feet above the horde, dozens of miles away from our initial position. We were literally 'diving' into battle.-------------------------------------------------------------------Despite a rough childhood in the slums, Omari had everything a guy could want - a loving girlfriend, an understanding sister, a wonderful teacher, and his dream job. Still, the scars from his childhood made Omari unable to live a dull life. He dreamed of something greater... something beyond the reaches of what humankind could achieve in the current era.Like always, Omari should have been careful what he wished for. In the year 2046, the World was thrown into chaos as the apocalypse came in the form of massive trees that shot up out of the ground one day. These trees towered over the tallest of buildings and had thicknesses that spanned kilometers at a time. They grew everywhere, in homes, businesses, and cities as they formed a complex network that overlayed the old world. The cause of the apocalypse was unknown, but Omari's workplace was believed to be the origin point of the unfortunate events.Fifteen years after the start of the Apocalypse... after all the pain and suffering... after losing everything he cared about, Omari sent his memories back in time to make sure that the future he lives in, never came to be.Will he be able to uncover the mystery of The Trees? Will he be able to protect all those he has lost? Will he succeed, or will his attempt be washed away by the currents of time? Will Omari be able to learn the truth about 'THE MYTH OF THE WORLD'S TREES'?
