《Unexpected》[14] - the necklace

"Hey Willow!"

Looking around from her locker to find out who called her, Willow saw Mason and Dylan from a distance walking towards her, waving their hands to say hi.

"Umm Hello..." The girl said confusedly, although, it did sound more like it was a question.

"How are you?" One of the boys asked. "I'm quite alright, I suppose." Willow replied.

"Well, you're probably wondering why we're talking to you." Dylan said while rubbing his neck, awkwardly.

"We saw saw an item at the mall that reminded us to you, so we got it for you!" Mason said, with a nervous laugh, and handed her the gift bag.

The brown eyed girl looked at the duo confused.

"Well, open it!" Mason exclaimed.

Hesitantly opening the gift, it was a small jewelry box with a necklace inside. It was a simple crescent moon, gold necklace. It was quite beautiful. "Why'd you get this for me?" Willow asked, puzzled.

"Uh, w-well you see..." Mason tried to explain, but was too nervous, so Dylan continued, "We wanted to apo-" Before he could finish his statement, the bell rang, signaling that it was time for class. "I'm sorry. Thank you for the gift, but I cannot take it." Willow said, quickly giving them the gift before scurrying to class.

The two boys groaned in irritation. It wasn't the fact that Willow didn't like the gift. She felt as if it were wrong. They haven't talked to her in a year, and now they're acting as if everything is okay, which didn't sit right with Willow.

Willow was slightly curious to what they wanted to say, but she didn't think about it too much.

The boys didn't know what to do with the gift. The receiver had declined it, and they didn't want to throw it away. They had an idea on who they could give the gift to, but they weren't very fond of the idea. The person was none other than Marissa. Obviously no sane person would gift her something as nice since she was rude and self-conceited, but Everett had been telling them to be nicer to her. Even though he missed Willow, he was still tried to be the best boyfriend he could to Marissa. Sure, she annoyed him a lot, but they were still in a relationship, so he shouldn't condone his best friends being mean to her.

Sighing, the boys finally agreed to give the gift to Marissa, as much as they hated it, they wanted to make it up to Everett.

School had barely even started, yet time was going by slow for Willow. It was currently first period which meant she was in Mathematics.

She wasn't necessarily bad at Math, it was just complicated to her. Sometimes she would wonder,"How could Math go from solving numbers to solving alphabets?" Math was quite exhausting and complicated.

Willow could barely pay attention to the teacher and the board because she kept overthinking. Lately she had been getting mysterious phone calls, and the feeling as if she was being watched. She couldn't help, but feel paranoid. Her mind was thinking so many things at once that she was starting to have a headache.

"Miss West," the Mathematics teacher yelled out, causing all eyes to be on Willow, "Are you paying attention, or am I boring you?"

"I was paying attention Miss." Willow replied, hating all the attention directed on her.

"Then tell me... what's the answer to problem five?" The teacher asked with her eyebrow raised.

"218.26." The girl replied, embarrassed.

"Correct. Try not to look so bored next time, and as if you're actually paying attention." The teacher said sternly.

Class went by slowly. The teacher kept scolding students for almost sleeping in her class, slamming her hands on the desk, "My class isn't a place for you to be sleeping!"

Nonetheless class was soon over, and just as soon as Willow was about to leave, her teacher called her.

"Are you okay Willow? I know I can be very strict, but I do care about you. I've notice how you've been kind of lost lately. Tired? I'm not sure, but if you ever need to talk, I'm all ears, okay dear?" It was true, she was quite strict, but she was also nice most days. She cared about her students well-being, and always checked up on them.

"Thank you, and I- I'm okay." After being dismissed, Willow quickly walked out of class.

"Thank you so much!" A voice squealed out. It belonged to none other than Marissa Winters. It was currently lunchtime and the boys have given her the necklace. Of course, Marissa had to yell it out to the whole cafeteria.

Violet scoffed and rolled her eyes. "As if Mason wasn't trying to be all 'buddy-buddy' with you a few days ago."

After debating whether or not she should tell her best friend, she decided to tell her. Quickly explaining the occurrence this morning to Violet, she made her promise not to make a big deal out of it, and to not tell anyone.

Violet was furious. They thought they could just buy their way into Willow's life. Pathetic. However, she knew that Willow felt uncomfortable, so she switched the topic.

Willow's phone rang. It was the same number that kept calling her, but she decided to not answer, once again. Maybe they thought it was someone else. She knew that they wouldn't have called back multiple times if they realized that she wasn't picking up, but she kept trying to reassure herself to make herself feel better.

It was now 3:20 pm. Willow had no homework since she did it all in class. She was just watching TV when the doorbell rang.

"Can you get that Willow?" Oliver asked from the kitchen.

Opening the door revealed the same man that was following her at work.

"Who is it Willow?" Oliver asked.

"Oh, Willow baby, it's me, don't you remember me? I've tried reaching out to you, calling you even, but you never picked up." The man said.

"I'm sorry who are you?" Willow asked, kind of creeped out that he knew her name, but Oliver did just call her in front of him.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Oliver asked, pushing Willow behind him. The man reeked of alcohol, which didn't seem to surprise Oliver.

"Can't I see my kids? I missed my children. Can I come in?"

"Hell no. I thought I told you to stay the fuck away from us." Oliver gritted his teeth. "Now now, that's no way to talk to your father now, is it?"

"You lost the title when you walked out on us. Why are you here?" Oliver said. He was fed up with this bullshit. After all, it was their father that was making Willow scared to the point where she didn't even feel safe going to work sometimes.

Sighing, their father replied, "I need a place to stay, and some money."

Oliver scoffed and laughed, but it was humorless. He couldn't help but think...

Of course. He heard about how much money I made, so now he wants to come back into our lives.

"Stay away from us, or I will call the cops."

"What? I didn't even get to talk to your sister, and you're kicking me out already?" The man said laughing maniacally.

"Get. Out." Oliver said. Listen here, and listen good. Leave us alone. You aren't our father. You left us, so why come back now? Leave. Us. Alone." With that, Oliver slammed the door on his face.

However, the man didn't stop. He kept knocking and kicking the door. He was drunk for fucks sakes.

"Who was that Oli?" Willow asked, confused as to why he called them his children.

Letting out a deep breath, he decided to tell Willow the truth.

"Our father."

Willow was a bit sad, she didn't expect their father to be like that. She knew he left them for money, but she always thought that he was living a happy life, it never occurred to her that he was an alcoholic.

Soon, the noise died down, but Willow couldn't stop thinking about their "father". Even though they were blood related, the West siblings never considered him their father.

However, they knew that this wasn't going to be the only time they're going to see him.
