《Daredevil: Born Again》Chapter 8: Identity

Matt was dressed for occasion, wearing a suit that was new and expensive. Foggy had gotten it for him the other day when they were looking for suits for Foggy. They thought it would look good if he had worn it on a date with Karen. Danny invited Matt over for Thanksgiving at Harlem so he decided he would wear it.
He was happy, he didn't even think about going out as Daredevil. He wasn't even worried. He was just a blind man making his way towards a meeting with friends. When Matt entered the restaurant, Luke was the first one to greet him.
"Hey Matt, glad to see that you're not showing up in a Devil's costume." Luke chuckled, giving Matt a hug.
"You won't be seeing me in a suit like that anymore. I've given it up." Matt smiled and placed his coat on a coat hook. "Is everyone here yet?"
"Can't you sense who were here before you arrived?"
"I wasn't focusing on the party, I was focusing on the temperature." Matt paused and tilted his head, "Seems like I'm the last person you are waiting for."
"Now that's the Matt we know. Actually, we're still waiting for someone."
Matt entered the room where they were going to eat. Danny said he reserved a room just for them. Colleen and Claire were the only ones in the room.
"Hey guys." Matt waved his hand at them, "Is Danny here?"
"Restroom. He'll be here in a minute." Colleen said, playing with her fork. She noticed the fresh suit of Matt, "New suit?"
"Yeah. My friend bought it for me." Matt gave Claire a hug when she approached him, "No suit."
"Kind of a surprised when I heard the Daredevil gave up the suit. I thought that was fake news but after Luke told me, I couldn't believe it. Matt gave it up." Claire exhaled in relief, "Well, looks like I have no one to sew up now."

"You have Danny."
"What about me?" Danny chuckled, exiting the restroom. He gave Matt a hug and looked at him in disbelief, "You're a... normal. That's all the words I can find."
"Yeah. It came out of nowhere but some speeches can be inspirational. You're still protecting the city, right?"
"I am. The crime rate went up by 2% since you left but Robbie and I have it covered."
"Is Reyes coming?"
"He couldn't today. He's kind of busy but he promised he will be here for the Christmas party." Danny looked at the food, "Let's eat, everyone."
They all found their chair and made themselves comfortable. Luke was about to grab some potatoes that Claire cooked until Colleen stopped him. They insisted Matt to do a prayer before they ate.
"Alright then." Matt whispered a prayer for all of them and the room fell silent. It was a long and meaningful prayer for everyone. "Amen."
"Amen." Everyone repeated.
Matt grabbed some turkey, gravy and mashed potatoes right away. He didn't eat lunch just for this occasion. They all knew they had to talk about something so Claire started.
"So, Danny helped me open up a clinic in Harlem just like Pop's Barbershop." Claire explained.
"You have a lot of money in your pockets, Rand. And you're spending it way too fast." Matt chuckled.
"I have to do something with it." Danny smiled and took a bite at the turkey, "Are you having trouble with finding employees?"
"I'm just thinking about the design, I'll deal with the employees later." Claire said but Luke looked at her, "Or we could say the Luke will handle it."
"Wait..." Colleen interrupted, "You bought her a clinic but you aren't upgrading the Dojo?"
Everyone in the room laughed while Danny sat there embarrassed. Even Luke had to let out a chuckle. They all returned back to eating but Matt could sense someone approaching. He tried to read the heartbeat and it was calm. And then he heard the sound of boots touching the ground. Jessica opened the door and she looked like shit. Matt sensed she hasn't slept in thirty two hours. Jessica was greeted by Luke first and then Danny. She sat beside Matt.

"Jones." Matt placed up a fake smile.
"Murdock." Jessica growled. She grabbed mashed potatoes and started eating them. She whispered, "Do you know Frank Castle?"
"Yes, I do. Why?"
She placed a picture of a crime scene that happened a few days ago on the table. Matt touched and sensed the Frank got into a fight with Bullseye. That meant that no one was protecting Hell's Kitchen.
"Have they found Castle or Bullseye yet?" Matt asked with concern.
"Not yet. I tried to track the bastard down for the past few days but it always led to a dead end."
"I can find him."
"I thought you gave up being Daredevil?" Jessica smirked.
"With Hell's Kitchen unguarded, the Daredevil has to emerge again." Matt clenched his fist but he then heard soldiers with weapons. He could hear thirty of them loading their weapons.
After a while, everyone fell silent.
"Claire, hide in the bathroom. Colleen, I think you have to go in to. Jessi-"
"I can handle myself, Cage." Jessica said, looking at the glass window above them. "Get in now!"
"Jess."
"What?" Jessica looked at Matt.
"The scarf."
Jessica gave Matt her scarf just before the men could slide down on to them. About ten of them landed in the room and started shooting at the four of them. Matt grabbed Jessica down to avoid the fire while Danny took cover behind Luke.
"Get ready Rand!" Luke shouted. Once they needed to reload, Danny used his Iron Fist to knock them back. "More at the door!"
Matt and Jessica came out of hiding and started beating the shit out of the soldiers entering through the door. Matt was jumping, kicking and punching through the air, trying to dodge the bullets while knocking the soldiers out. Jessica was just using her strength to power through the soldiers. Rand and Luke attacked the ones who were getting up after the Iron Fist. The Defenders were mainly kicking ass on Thanksgiving.
"Danny, a little bit of help!" Matt called out when he was busy fighting off two soldiers. Danny unleashed the Iron Fist upon six soldiers who just got in. "Thanks."
Jessica decided to help out Luke after they started to gang up on him. The both of them were throwing the soldiers through the walls and into the ceiling. They were getting knocked out.
Suddenly two soldiers with mini guns showed up at the door and started firing. Matt and Danny got down while Jessica hid behind Luke. When Luke took a look at the cartridge, they had a lot of ammo. It didn't look like they were going to stop.
"Matt! Danny!" Luke looked at them, "I need you to-"
The two men with mini guns were turned into ashes by a flaming chain. Robbie came up from behind as the Ghost Rider. He started to clear up the room and turn the soldiers into ashes. Once the room was cleared, everyone started to take a breath.
"I'll check on the girls." Luke said, walking towards the restroom.
"I'll explain and bribe the manager." Danny sighed and walked outside the room.
"I'll go find Castle." Matt said, walking out but his arm was grabbed by Jessica. "I'll give you back the scarf."
"Not the scarf, asshole. I'll help you. You need my detective skills to help you." Jessica said.
"It's too dangerous." Matt knew he couldn't stop her with the face she was making, "Fine. But if you get hurt, you're not helping me again."
"Deal." Jessica walked pass her while Matt talked to Robbie.
"Hey Reyes!" Matt called
"What?" Robbie asked, checking on some unconscious soldiers.
"Take it easy on them next time, will you? The ashes are hard to clean up."
"I'll keep that in mind." Robbie smiled and turned away.

Protagonist: The Whims of Gods
Book one now also on Amazon! After quitting her job as a therapist and grabbing some work at a dog shelter, Tess's life became pretty slow. A tad boring, even. It thus came as no small surprise when she was chosen by a god. Thrust into a new world where magic, monsters, and character levels are suddenly a reality, Tess will quickly find that just surviving can be a challenge. It doesn't help that dark forces are stirring, she's woefully underpowered, and that spiders keep trying to claw her face off. One thing's for certain, though: The possibilities are endless. Will she end up wrestling a dragon? Becoming an arch-mage? Opening a quaint, bookstore, coffee shop, and wine bar for elves? The choice is hers... As long as she can live long enough to make it. Protagonist is a fairly classic LitRPG novel with character levels, classes, stats, settlements, and other LitRPG elements. Unlike a lot of LitRPG stories, while the protagonist has some perks, she doesn't start off overpowered. You can expect to see her struggle as she advances. This novel also takes the opportunity to explore some less frequently seen builds, shying away from any min-maxing. Chapters are about ~2000-3000 words and are released at 8:00am ET every other day.

8 212A Broken World [Rewrite]
In a world of floating islands of stone in the sky, where rivers flow through the air and defy gravity from one island to another, and ancient ruins can be found containing wonders beyond what can be produced by the lands current inhabitants- a millenia long war rages. In the distant past, beyond recorded history, when the crown of humanity's glory, the city of Uri, had stood whole against the enroaching demon swarms- even as hope seemed lost, a band of heroes, against all odds, managed to steal powerful magical knowledge from the demons. With the demon's forbidden knowledge, in the heart of Uri a new ritual was made. Called, "The Millenial Summoning," the ritual had the power to call a being from another world that would have the power to change the world forever. The first being summoned became known as "The Speaker," and he brought the power of the Gods to the world. With the blessings and power of the new priests, the unstoppable demon hordes were finally halted. A thousand years later, the ritual was used again and "The First Sorceress" was brought to the world. She brought the knowledge of advanced magics, and techniques to find and refine magical talent. With the magic power now added to the battlefield, the stalemate was broken. And for the first time, the demons were pushed back. Another thousand years later, and all of humanites hope for a final victory were dashed. Traitors slew the ritual's participants and took their places, and humanity quaked as The Demon King stepped into the world. His name, his nature, where he came from none of these are known, but what is known is his overwhelming power and his brilliant strategic leadership of the formerly formless hordes. Still, despite their position being even more dire than it has ever been since history has been recorded, humanity held on for another thousand years. Aided, thankfully, by The Demon King not taking the field after the first few years and battles. Now, the ritual is being cast again and a new hero is being summoned. In our world, after nearly three decades of study and hard work, Lucas Jaeger is making his dreams come true. With a double doctorate in both genetics and microbiology, as well as an associates degree in accounting, he has finally, after nearly driving himself mad from stress and sick from overwork, been able to put to together a presentation and ask for a business loan. His long time dream, earned by his own blood and sweat, to start his own commercial genetic company is finally coming to fruition. Lucas's car never left the banks parking lot and Lucas was never seen again in our world. This is a rewrite of "A Broken World." It is basically the same story, just a thousand times better and with decent length chapters!

It’s was the end of the world and to be honest from what I’ve heard, life wasn’t too different to the world I know today… Besides the fact that we live online, obviously. I’m still in cyber debt, life from what I hear still sucks as much as it did back then, but maybe, just maybe I can scratch beneath the surface of this disillusioned world and disconnect universally; I might have a chance to experience true life in its purest form.
