《Daredevil: Born Again》Chapter 2: Eye Spy

Jessica was on the fire exit and camera out, waiting for Foggy. It's been days now that Foggy kept on visiting the same church at the same time. She knew that there is no way he was praying. Maybe he was visiting and that is what Jessica needs to know. Whether he is attending mass for real or meeting someone.
Meanwhile, Foggy was coming to visit Matt with a batch of fresh clothes. Foggy chuckled at the thought that Matt already knows that he was coming. For the past few days, he was reading through files of the Defenders. But to his surprise, he was still meditating. Matt's wounds were still visible, from the cuts on his arms to his bruised rib.
"Um, hey... Matt." Foggy knocked on the door to know he was there, "I brought you some new clothes."
"Oh, hey Foggy." Matt smiled, standing up and hugging him, "Thanks for the new clothes by the way."
"No problem bud," Foggy sat on the armchair the nuns provided him with," So, how you holding up?"
"Almost out, Foggy. These wounds are about to heal and in a few days I'll be walking again," Matt chuckled and leaned on the wall, "How are the Defenders doing?"
"They have a new member in the group, Robbie Reyes also known as Ghost Rider. Real deal." Foggy handed him over the file.
Matt touched the file and read through the it, mechanic turned Ghost Rider after tragic accident, "He's good for them."
"But it would be nice if you were still there." Foggy faintly said.
"I promise I'll be back in the Defenders it's just that..." Matt paused and sensed something far away. He started to sniff which bothered Foggy.
"Why the hell are you sniffing?" Foggy started looking around to see any changes but there weren't, "Seems fine to me."
"No, it's not that. It's someone. Smells like beer and it's a girl." Matt sniffed harder and found out who it was, "It's Jessica."
"Oh shit. She must have been following me around," Foggy stood up and started walking around looking worried, "What should I do now?"
"She's in the church and walking towards us. Find a way to make her leave. It's not the time for the world to know that Matthew Murdock is alive." Matt hid under his bed and grabbed the bag to make sure he left no trace of himself.

Foggy fixed his tie to look more presentable to a person like Jessica Jones. Matt could already sense that she was walking down the hallway by the time he grabbed his bag. She entered the room aggressively and she looked like shit. There was black under her eyes which meant she hasn't slept in a while and she smelled like beer.
"Why the hell are you here Nelson?" Jessica asked, walking pass the bed and sitting on the armchair. "And don't even try to bullshit me."
"Why won't I ask the questions first," Foggy cleared his throat and sat on the bed, "How's your relationship with the Latin man?"
"Does my face answer the question?" Jessica asked and Foggy answered with a no, "We broke up because I found out that he was sleeping with someone else. Surprise."
"Sorry to hear about that." Foggy said, sweat dropping from his head. Jessica started to took notice. "Is Alias Investigations doing well lately?"
"Pretty good. Got some clients who were willing to shut up and pay good. I like people who pay good and are good. Easier to finish the job." Jessica started to look around the room. No sign of anyone besides Foggy. But she questioned the yoga mat in the center of the room, "What's up with that?"
"I've been stretching and doing yoga because Marci told me I should," Foggy explained but it looked like Jessica wasn't buying it, "I just joined the church for their upcoming retreat."
"Cut the shit, Nelson. You just arrived and your already doing yoga?" Jessica stood up and opened the table drawer. "Bible and a cross. Seems fitting."
"Yeah, I'm already doing yoga so I could feel comfortable here. Can you tell me the real reason why you're here?" Foggy asked but Jessica grabbed his collar.
"But you tell me why you're here, or I'll kick the hell out of-" Jessica stopped talking when her phone rang. It was Trish and she was more important than the situation right now. "You're lucky, Nelson. I'll be visiting soon."
Jessica then left the room with her phone in her ear. She was in a hurry and Matt could hear it all. Trish had called because she wasn't feeling sick and she needed medicine. Who else would she call besides Jessica. Once she was out of the building, Matt stood up.

"She's right, Foggy. You were lucky that Trish called," Matt pointed out, pouring some water to the glass and offering it to Foggy, "You want some?"
"I'm fine. She was so close to finding out that you were here. It was so close." Foggy sighed and laid on the bed, "Imagine if she found out."
"She would tell Luke, Claire, Danny, Colleen and probably the new guy too." Matt sat beside a laying Foggy.
Matt listened to the TV downstairs because it had some interesting news. It was talking about the return of the Devil of Hell's Kitchen. He hasn't even gone outside the church or even touch the suit yet and some news studio is talking about Daredevil.
"It seems that the Daredevil has returned to Hell's Kitchen with a glowing hand. This figure with the glowing hand has been seen roaming around for about two weeks now and it has been reported that it has stolen the Daredevil suit. More on this topic when we return." The news reporter said
Matt sighed and walked over to the armchair. He had no idea on what to do next. Jessica will be visiting in a few days, Matt read her heartbeat for that one and Danny has been roaming around Hell's Kitchen with the Daredevil suit.
"What now?" Foggy asked, looking at Matt sniffing, "Don't you think you smelled enough things today?"
"It's just something I heard," Matt tapped Foggy on the belly, "Visiting hours are over."
"Oh yeah..." Foggy said, standing up and getting his jacket, "Stay safe buddy. And I'll look out for Jessica too."
"Thanks, Foggy." Matt chuckled when he left. Now he could practice his meditating to heal his wounds.
It was the day that Matt Murdock was going to leave the church and continue life like normal. The nuns had prepared a feast for him last night and Father Lantom had shown up. It was a wonderful night and was a great one to spend with Sister Maggie. They spent a lot of time together while Matt healed. She was there to supply him water, give him small talks, introduce him to other nuns, etc. He enjoyed his time in the church and he promised Sister Maggie that he would return soon enough. But the world was calling Matt Murdock to return to society. He said his goodbye to his mother and kissed her on the cheek.
When he left, he was wearing a sweater, jeans and his jacket. It was close to Christmas so it was cold. It was just few weeks and he would have his apartment decorated. But that wasn't the main concern. It was how he was going to return to society. Father Lantom was seating on the bench near the park and Matt approached him.
"Matthew," Father Lantom chuckled as he offered him to seat down, "What a pleasant surprise to see you."
"Nice to see you as well, Father," Matt sat beside him and started to enjoy the noises that New York was producing, "Did you like the party last night?"
"I did, Matthew. I liked the cake and the drinks, it tasted well." Lantom said, while Matt was smiling, "I know your mother cooked that."
"I could smell it." Matt chuckled, "Father, how do I return to the world without being too suspicious?"
"Haha... You see, Matthew, you return like nothing happened. Act like your death was nothing. Pretend like you went out of the country. Easy, isn't it Matthew?"
Matt listened but didn't answer immediately when he heard the heartbeat of Jessica approaching the other church. He stood up and looked at Father Lantom.
"Sorry, Father but I must be leaving. I need to attend lunch with my friend." Matt smirked and left Father Lantom to answer.
"Alright, Matthew. Take care." Lantom continued to listen to the humming of the birds.
Matt grabbed the keys under the fire extinguisher and opened his apartment door. From one block away, he sensed that Danny was inside treating himself to a cup of coffee. He unlocked the door and he sensed that the Iron Fist glowed.
"Who's there?" Danny asked with his Iron Fist glowing.
"It's just Matt Murdock," Matt chuckled as Danny came in to hug him, "You miss me?"
"Everyone did," Danny held his shoulders and looked at him, "Where the hell have you been?"
"Church. I've been healing." Matt walked over to the Daredevil suit and touched it, "Care if I wear it tonight?"
"O-of course." Danny took a sip of his coffee, "You're going to be going out as Daredevil fully now?"
"No," Matt smiled, "I just wanted to try it."

The Errant Otherworlder Watanabe
“In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death, taxes and trucks whom transport men to other worlds.” Meet our titular protagonist Haruto Watanabe, a man who has all the markings of a good protagonist for a generic portal fantasy story. As an overworked office worker, to escape from the grips of crippling capitalist alienation, he had taken up to reading many stories where young men like him were transported to other worlds and enjoyed their lives at a most leisurely pace. Armed with genre-awareness and (what he believes to be) a marketable personality which would make him an easy audience self-insert, he longed for the day the isekai express would take him to his long-awaited adventure to another world. When the fateful day came, where the fair yet harsh mistress that is the fabled truck took Watanabe on one last date to the other side, he was most ready to escape his previous life, ready to embark on an errant so great he’d be most overpowered, his heroics so exceptional and his harem so vast that they would barely fit ten or twenty volumes of an overly long novel made by a desperate author looking for quick cash. Lo and behold however, Watanabe instead found himself in a low fantasy world which lacked severely in the department of any game-like systems, cheat skills or easily charmed damsels in distress. In a setting so antithetical to his established genre savviness or any attempts at power fantasy, how will a man like Watanabe, lacking in strength, wits and courage, manage to survive in a land most foreign to him? This is my first time trying to share to the wider world what I’ve written, and I hope you’ll enjoy reading the errantry of Watanabe as much as I enjoy writing about them. I'll be posting one chapter per week on Sundays, along with extra chapters whenever I get the chance to write more than usual.
