Usually, the mutants ate the same food just in different rooms. Evie had made it a habit of floating between Raven and Charles and Sean and Alex when they ate. It mostly depended on what mood she was in and how much shit-talking she could deal with from the boys.

However, after a few hours, Raven had ruled Charles as missing. She freaked out immediately because it wasn't like him. That's when Hank calmed her down, telling her that her brother was probably working still. That was at ten in the evening.

So as Evie wandered down the hall towards the study room. She had found that Charles liked to hall himself up in it from time to time so she figured that was the first place she'd look. The plate of hot food hardly burning her skin as she slowed down. She peered into the room and smiled when she saw Charles scribbling viciously on the paper.

"You missed dinner." Evie announced her presence which made the telepath's head snap towards her in shock. "Raven got worried, wanted to start a manhunt." She told him as she lent casually against the door frame.

"I've been busy, there was no time for food." Charles explained as he motioned to all the paper that littered the floor.

"Well, I guess I'll just eat the food I brought you." Evie stated as she lifted up the plate in her hand. The burnet looked between the plate and the women then narrowed his eyes slightly. Evie held a confident smirk as she stared back at him.

Charles ran his hands over his face as he sighed heavily. "I need a break."

Evie smiled victoriously as she walked into the room. She placed the plate down, taking the paper from under him. "Yes you do." The brunette sat down and pointed to the paper. "Do you mind?"

The man nodded as he began to eat the food. The CIA agent began to skim over the paper, seeing plans on how to improve everyone's mutations. Evie was impressed to say the least, Charles had put so much energy into making people better. It was admirable.

"What do you think?" He asked nervously, wanting her approval.

"They're pretty good considering our small training window." Evie complimented as she lent back in the arm chair, sending him a smile. "They're specific, measurable and overall, they could work. It seems like you have a good handle on everyone's mutations."

"If I'm allowed to be honest," Charles spoke up, placing the now empty plate to the side so he could lean on the desk. "I don't understand your mutation."

Evie furrowed her brows as she looked up at him, a puzzled expression on her face. "I touch things and they explode, what's so difficult about that?" She asked him.

"If that was true then you would explode everything you touch including yourself." Charles responded as he looked at her. "At first I thought your body converted energy and they released it onto something. Almost as if you body turns Kinetic Energy into Chemical Potential energy and then pushes that onto an object, making it into a bomb. However, I found I was wrong when Hank found no traces of Chemical or Kinetic energy on the disks I asked you to throw two days ago."

Evie held a blank stare as she watched Charles rambled on. Once the telepath realised that the brunette wasn't following his words, he spoke up. "You have no idea what I just said do you?"

"No but I like hearing you talk." Evie replied with a smirk as she tilted her head. Charles couldn't help but laugh at her flirting, almost embarrassing. "I'm assuming that's why my page is still blank?"

"I don't know what to do to help you." Charles stated glumly as he rested his cheek on his hand.

"I don't need help." Evie responded immediately, almost as if it was wired into her brain.

Charles didn't hesitate to respond. "You're lying."

"I'm not lying." Evie chuckled bitterly, refusing to look at the man.

"Yes you are and I don't need to read your mind to figure that out." He replied, leaning forward. He gently grabbed her chin and guided it back towards him, Evie's eyes following and finally meeting his. "Let me help you."He whispered to her.

"You can't help so there's no point in trying." Evie whispered back, her eyes staring right into his. After a moment of silence, she pulled herself back from his reach, leaving the study without another word.

The next day rolled around quickly, the sun rising to say good morning to all the mutants in the enormous house. Most of them had been up for hours, whether it be just to relax or to train. Either way, most of the group quickly became driven, ready to avenge Darwin.

Evie was sat on her bed, staring out the large window in front of her, the trees gently blowing in the wind, birds dancing freely together in pairs. It was peaceful.

"Evie," She heard a voice behind her ask. The brunette turned her head to see Raven standing there, nervously fiddling with her fingers. "Can I ask you a favour?"

The brunette smiled kindly at her. "Sure."

"Can you teach me how to fight?" Raven asked curiously, placing her hands by her sides. "Like hand to hand combat?" She quickly clarified.

"Yeah, I can do that." Evie nodded as she rolled to the other side of the bed, standing up so she could talk more directly to the blonde. "Is there somewhere we can practice?"

Raven grinned and nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah, I'll meet you in the foyer in ten minutes." She told the brunette before leaving her room.

The CIA agent laughed as she watched Raven practically sprint out of her room. That's when she finally realised she would have to break down combat, so she quickly mapped out the basics. Once this whole Shaw thing was over, she'd have to teach Raven more advanced techniques but right now that didn't matter.

Ten minutes came and gone and Evie was stood leaning against an arm chair wait. The sound of the grandfather clock chiming made Evie realise that it was only midday. Days merged into one these days, like they did most of the time for Evie. She was so caught up in her thoughts that she didn't even notice Erik strutting into the room.

"You look like your waiting for someone?" He called out to her, making Evie's attention go from the clock to the mutant. "Your English prince?" He lightly teased which made Evie smile subconsciously.

"Charles? Definitely not." She exclaimed quickly, pushing herself up and off the chair. "I'm waiting for his sister."

"You're not sneaking out are you?" He raised a brow accusingly.

Evie shook her head, holding her hands up in a surrendering way. "I'm teaching her hand to hand combat. She wanted to learn it." She explained honestly.

"So you're teaching now?" Erik asked her in an accusing tone, his eyes narrowed playfully at her.

"What? Want to learn it too?" Evie questioned him with a smirk.

"I'm fine." Erik rolled his eyes as he crossed his arms over his chest. This caused Evie to laugh at him, punching his bicep playfully. She spotted Raven behind him and walked over to her.

"So there's a small training room at the end of the hall." Raven explained as she wandered to Evie. Her outfit now grey sweats instead of her dress that she was wearing. "I was thinking we could use that."

"Yeah, I'm good with that." Evie smiled kindly at her as they began to walk down the hall.

"Also, I may have invited Alex and Sean." Raven admitted nervous as she scratched her neck. "Is that okay?"

Evie chuckled, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "The more the merrier."

Right above the training room sat Charles, half napping and half trying to figure out how to improve Evie's mutation. This was the reason he didn't pay attention to the commotion that was below. It wasn't until Erik knocked on the door did he realise that it was midday.

"Charles," Erik called out to his friend which made the brunet look up. "There seems to be a small fight club forming downstairs."

The telepath furrowed his brows in confusion at the claim. "What?" He questioned.

"Evie is teaching them all hand to hand combat." Erik elaborated with a smirk before disappearing again. The sound of rushed footsteps echoed down the corridor which made his smirk grow even wider.

Erik knew that he only needed to mention Evie and the Englishman would follow him. Even so, it was obvious that the two brunettes were pining for each other and he was secretly rooting for the two. As the two males neared the training room, they could hear Raven's laughs echoing.

"How's it going?" Erik questioned as he entered the room, standing next to the blonde who was sat on the floor with Sean.

"Evie's about to teach Alex how to defend from an attacker with a knife." Sean explained as he lent on his palms. "It'll entertaining to watch her break his fragile ego."

"What like she broke yours?" Raven fired at him which made Sean pout sadly. The group looked to Evie and Alex who were stood in the middle of the room, Alex holding a knife by his side and held an expression that was full of reluctance.

Alex sighed as he held the knife up. "I'm not coming at you with a knife." He told Evie in a serious tone.

"I'm teaching you to disarm an attacker. It's self defense 101." Evie explained eagerly, bouncing on her feet in case Alex did attack her. "Besides, it's not a real knife."

The young man narrowed his eyes at her, bringing the knife to his finger and cutting it slightly. When a small drop of blood fell, he looked back to Evie and glared. "Really?"

"Okay, that's your own fault." Evie exclaimed as she held her hands up, surrendering. When Alex didn't move, Evie took it upon herself to taunt him. "Come on Alex, don't be a pussy. You're not scared, are you?"

With a growl, Alex charged at Evie. Smoothly, the brunette moved out of the way of the knife, grabbing Alex's wrist and the back of his neck. Using his own force, Evie pushed Alex to the ground, kneeling on his back and disarming him easily.

"Ow." Alex groaned as he tried to move his arm but found it restrained by the agent.

"And that's how you disarm an attacker." Evie exclaimed as she let go of Alex, standing up and leaving him on the floor. "Use their own force against them."

Alex managed to roll himself onto his back, staring up at the ceiling in shock. "Okay you win." He stated breathlessly.

"That's three to me, zero to you." Evie teased as she looked to Sean and Raven. Much to her suprise, Erik and Charles were standing watching them. "You guys wanna try?" She offered to the men who had just joined.

Erik quickly shook his head and held his hands up. Meanwhile Charles stared at her blankly, almost as if he was placing things together in his head. The brunette watched as his eyes lit up and immediately beckoned her to follow him.

"Evie, follow me please." He asked her as he left the training room. Evie's eyes widened as she quickly followed him.

"Someone's in trouble." Sean whistled as she was about to pass him.

Without hesitation, Evie kicked the young man as she walked by. "Shut up Sean."

The CIA agent walked just behind Charles who led them outside. He waited at the end of the stone track before her turned around and addressed the brunette. Evie was a little anxious about why he had requested to follow her, she didn't know what he wanted.

"I think I've just figured out how to progress your mutation." Charles explained as he hid something behind his back.

Evie furrowed her brows, still wondering why she was brought was outside. "Okay and?" She asked him in confusion.

"Detonate this." The telepath stated as he pulled a small grenade from behind his back. Evie's eyes widened, her brows raising as she looked at the object in his hand.

"That's a grenade." Evie identified as she pointed to it.

"Your mutation doesn't just work on things you touch, you think about blowing things up and they blow up. Touching only helps you concentrate." Charles explained as he stepped towards Evie, grabbing one of her hands. "I'm going to throw this and you're going to blow it up."

He began to pull away to thrown the grenade but Evie grabbed his hands once again. "Wait Charles," Evie gripped his hand tightly, almost in fear. "I don't know if I can do that."

"You are capable of so much more then you realise." He told her gently, his eyes softening as he looked at her. "I believe in you."

Once again, he pulled away from the women, throwing the grenade into the air. Once it left his hand, Evie froze up, thinking of all the horrible things her mutation had done. The grenade gently hit the floor, rolling slightly.

Charles sighed, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "It's okay, we'll try again." He reassured her, seeing her slightly traumatised face.

Try after try after try, yet Evie couldn't manage to do what was asked of her. It was beginning to grow frustrating for the brunette, it should be simple so why couldn't she do it? Charles was observant, noticing that the agent was becoming frustrated and angry at herself. But he didn't know how to combat it.

"It's never going to work." Evie exclaimed as she finally gave up on the task.

Charles picked up the grenade, looking back and seeing the brunette walking away from him. "Evie, you can't just give up." He called after her in urgency.

The female turned around, shrugging at him as she walked backwards. "Yeah, well, I just did." She told him before walking back into the house, leaving Charles behind.
