《Smile For Me || Niall Horan》20: Preparing
Advertisement
Certain things are just worth waiting for.
The next morning I woke up to the smell of food. I open my eyes and see that Niall isn't next to me. I roll out of bed and wander over to the small kitchen area. My boyfriend was sitting at the table with a cart of room service by the door. He smiled when he saw me.
"Morning babe." He gets up to hug me.
"Good morning," I say, about to kiss his cheek. I stop myself and bite my lip instead, remembering our game. He smirks at me.
"I ordered breakfast," he says, pointing to the cart of food.
"Smells amazing." I grab a plate of pancakes from the cart and join him at the table. "So how about that surprise you mentioned the other day?" I ask as I cut up my meal. He grins.
"You're gonna have to wait and see."
I groan in frustration and finish my breakfast. I place the dirty dishes back on the cart and noticed that Niall was now sitting in the living room watching TV.
I grinned to myself as I remembered last night. How he teased me and made me want to kiss him without actually giving in himself. Two could play at that game.
Walking over to the couch, I sat on his lap. He looked surprised at first but slowly smiled.
"Hi there," he says, wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me closer.
"Hey," I reply in the sexiest voice I could manage. I lean my forehead against his and look into his eyes. He glanced from my lips to my eyes about a million times as I grinned. He looked conflicted.
I wanted one of us to lose this bet soon. It was killing me too. I just didn't want to be the one to lose.
"Happy one month anniversary," I whisper into his ear.
"This is so unfair," he says, smiling and shaking his head. I give a confused innocent look.
"What are you talking about babe? I'm just playing the same game you are," I say, getting close to his face. Our lips were so close that if one of us moved we would surely kiss. I continued to smirk at him. He stared at my lips and swallowed. He shut his eyes tight and shook his head.
"I am not giving in so soon," he said, a look of determination in his eyes. I sigh and back away a bit, staying in his lap but moving my head so it rests on his shoulder. "I don't like this game," he mumbles. I chuckle.
"Me neither."
"Then why did you suggest it?"
"Because you're making me wait so long for this surprise," I reason. It seemed like a good idea at the time. I guess I hadn’t really thought things through. He rolls his eyes.
"You know it's only because I love you," he says giving me a cheesy grin. I smile and roll my eyes.
"And you're lucky I love you too," I say back to him, smiling. I wanted to kiss his cheek or something for being so damn adorable, but I couldn't. And I hated it.
"Hello! What’s going on? No kissing?" Zayn says as he bursts into our room. I chuckle.
"Not yet," I admit. "He'll crack soon," I say, winking.
"Oh really? And how do we know that I'll be the one to crack first?" Niall asks, smirking.

"Because you even admitted it yourself," I shoot back at him smugly.
"Maybe you'll be the one to kiss me first. Then what?" he says, poking my belly. I giggle and cover my stomach.
"That tickles. Knock it off."
"Really? You mean this?" he says, poking me again. I giggle, moving away from him to the other side of the couch. He grins evilly and moves closer.
"I don't need to see this..." Zayn complains. I roll my eyes and laugh.
"Then why are you here?" Niall asks.
"The other boys are still sleeping and I'm bored."
"Go wake up Liam," I suggest.
"The last time I did that he poured ice down my shirt," he whines. I laugh. "I'm gonna go bother Louis. This is sickening to watch." I roll my eyes and throw a pillow at him. He throws it back but it lands on the floor. "No kissing. Use protection. Bye." I laugh as the door closes. Niall rolls his eyes.
"What are we going to do today?" I ask, putting my feet up on Niall's lap as a foot rest.
"When Harry and Louis get up they're taking you shopping."
"I have enough clothes. I don't need to go shopping."
"But this shopping trip is for something special," he says knowingly. I sigh.
"What could it be that I need more clothes for?"
"You'll see," he answers. I groan and get up to shower. I brush my teeth and pull on an oversized cream colored knit sweater and a pair of tight fitted dark denim skinny jeans. I wore my black heeled boots and of course, my necklace. My blonde hair was curly like always as I stepped out of the bathroom ready for the day.
"You look gorgeous," Niall says, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind. I smile and turn around, gently grabbing his hands in mine. I put my arms around his neck and his hands rest on my waist. He smirks at me.
"I really want to kiss you right now," I admit.
"I really want to kiss you too. You could always just give in," he suggests.
"You could always do the same," I argue. He pulls me closer to him by my hips and leans down. Instead of kissing me he brings his lips close to my ear.
"I don't think so," he whispers, smirking as he spins out of our embrace. I bite my lip.
This game is harder than I imagined.
~~~
"Louis step away from the bras," Harry warns as Louis holds up a hot pink D-cup to his chest. I couldn't help but laugh.
"Do think this would fit?" he asks, trying out different poses.
"Lou I think you're a bit flat to be wearing a D cup," I giggle. He sighs and places it back on the rack as I roll my eyes.
"What stores sell dresses?" Harry asks. I shrug, taking Claire's hand.
"I don't know. I don't shop for dresses often. I rarely need them and can never afford them."
"OH! Let's go in there!" Louis says, pointing to a small shop with beautiful gowns in the window. He pulls Harry, Claire, and I in with him. Claire's eyes wandered around, amazed at all the pretty colors and designs. I smile.
"So...why is it again that one of my other dresses you guys have already bought me wouldn't be suitable for whatever Niall is planning?"
"Because this dress has to be special," Harry hints with a wink.
"You guys already bought me an entire closet. I don't need any more clothes."
"Yes. You do," Louis decides. "You can never have too many clothes." He sorts through the racks while I roll my eyes and smile. I glance around at a few dresses but don't see a lot of things that I was in love with.
"Can I have a hint of the date venue so I know what to be expecting?"
"Nope," Harry says, smiling and showing his dimples.
"Just don't wear anything too long," Louis says winking. I sigh. I had no idea what to expect. Claire pulls on my arm.
"Lexi!" she calls, smiling brightly. I smile and turn to her. Her other hand was clutching the bottom of a dress. It was still on the rack, she was just holding it out to show me. "I like this one," she says. I pull it off the rack the rest of the way to look at it. My eyes go wide.
It was covered in gold sequins at the top and flowed out at the bottom. I loved it. My four year old sister had good taste.
"This...is…the dress," I say slowly. The boys look over to me.
"Try it on," Louis orders. I walk to the dressing room and change. Staring at my reflection in the mirror, I have to admit, it didn’t look too bad on me. I come out and their mouths drop open.
"Lexi you look like a princess!" Claire squeals. I smile.
"I approve," Harry says grinning.
"Me too," Louis agrees. "Take it off now so we can buy it."
I glance at the tag as I walk back into the dressing room to switch back into my comfortable clothes. I saw lots and lots of numbers....
"It's too expensive," I say as I exit the dressing room in my normal attire. "I won't let you guys spend this much on me." They roll their eyes.
"We want to. Besides it looks great on you and you clearly are in love with the dress," Louis reasons. I glance from the boys to the dress. I finally sigh, giving in to their pleading expressions.
"Fine. But nothing else." I hand Harry the dress to purchase.
"You need shoes!" he reminds me cheerfully. I mutter colorful words under my breath.
"And jewelry!" Louis adds. I groan.
"You guys are killing me." They smirk at each other and follow me out after paying for the dress.
We leave and they drag me into a shoe store. After looking around we find a pair of flat gold sandals. They insist on buying me them along with a pair of silver earrings to match my mother’s necklace. By the time we left the mall I was exhausted. It was almost four in the afternoon.
"Niall texted me saying you should be ready by seven," Harry informs me. "He'll stay out of the room so you can prepare."
"By the way we asked Kristy to help out with your hair and makeup. She should be at the hotel by five," Louis adds. I smile.
"Is there a reason this surprise requires so much preparation?"
Louis and Harry exchange a look.
"Maybe," they say in unison. I sigh and relax on the ride back to the hotel. The boys shove the shopping bags into the room with me. It was so quiet. Niall was nowhere to be seen. I wonder where he could have gone while I got ready...
I missed him. I really haven't seen him all day. And I missed his lips.
Stupid game.
I jump into the shower and shave my legs, washing my hair twice instead of just once. I scrub my teeth clean and wash my face. I hear a knock on my door just as I pull on my bra and underwear. I wrap a robe around myself and check the time. Five o'clock. I open the door and see Kristy, my stylist, standing in front of me. I smile and move so she could come in.
"Hey. Thanks for helping," I say to her. She smiles.
"No problem. Let's get you ready for your date," she says, wiggling her eyebrows. I laugh and let her lead me to the vanity table in our hotel room.
She sets her huge bag of supplies in the table in front of us and I sit in front of the mirror. She spins my chair around so I can't see myself.
"No peeking," she instructs.
Kristy was only twenty years old. Just two years older than me. She was like a friend instead of a worker which I liked. It was good to have her traveling with us when it was really only the boys, me, and my baby sister. It was nice to have a girl my age to talk to when I needed a break from the boys every now and then. The stylists and producers and stuff stayed at a less high-class hotel when they traveled with us. But they were still at every show.
I let Kristy transform me like she does before every concert. I was expecting the same look she gave me each night before a show but instead when I finally was allowed to look in the mirror I saw something completely different. A small gasp escaped my lips.
My hair wasn't in perfect curls but was in flowing waves instead. They looked prettier than the curls in my opinion. My eyes were done with a bit of black eyeliner and some mascara that made my lashes look longer. My eyelids had a shimmer of gold to them as well. My lips were a nude color but were still shiny and perfect looking. Of course my skin didn't have a flaw in sight. Kristy really could work magic with makeup. She even did my nails. They were gold with white designs. After she was finished I hugged her.
"Thank you so much! You are a miracle worker."
She smiled.
"Thanks. Now go get dressed! It's almost seven," she states with a wink. I smile and grab my dress. I change and slip on my shoes, replacing my necklace and adding my earrings. I take a deep breath and check myself in the mirror. "You look BEAUTIFUL!" Kristy squeals. I smile.
"Thanks."
"It's 6:58! Ahhh!" I laugh as she freaks out and pulls me to the door. "Liam and Zayn are going to drive you there," she explains.
"Okay. Can anyone tell me where we're going, though?" She shakes her head and smiles.
"Not until you get there!"
I groan. I hear a knock on my door and open it to find four guys and Claire at the door.
"Your chauffeurs are here," Liam says, smiling. I smile back at them.
"We just wanted to see you before you leave," Harry says.
"Lexi's a princess!" Claire squeals happily. I giggle and pick her up in my arms. I kiss her cheek.
"Now I need to go see my prince charming," I tell her. She smiles and hugs me before I let her down again.
"You look stunning, just to let you know," Louis compliments. The others are quick to agree. I blush.
"Thank you. It was all Kristy's work," I say. She rolls her eyes and smiles.
"Enough jabbering. You have a date," Zayn says. He and Liam both hold out one of their elbows. I giggle and link my arms with theirs.
"We are your official escorts," Liam says smirking.
"Hired by blondie," Zayn adds. I laugh as they lead me to the car. On the drive there I kept begging them to tell me where we were going. They kept smirking at each other but wouldn't give me a clue.
"Almost there," Liam says, adding a wink as we pull up to a sandy pathway.
"This is the spot where we're supposed to leave you," Zayn says, smiling sadly. I sigh.
"Follow the path," Liam instructs.
"Can I know where it leads to?"
"No."
I roll my eyes and hug each of them. "Thank you for chauffeuring me," I say, giggling.
"No problem. Have fun. Use protection." I roll my eyes and slap their shoulders as they smirk at me. I wave goodbye and start to walk down the sandy path.
As I keep walking I start to figure out the surprise. Probably just a walk on the beach or something.
I grew more and more curious with each step I took...
But when his family’s life is on the line? That’s something else. Then something hits him. Lays him out cold, and leaves him waking up to a fantasyland with nothing but his armor and a half-written note to guide him. It's a strange place where even stranger predators eye him for their next meal. Where his life’s on a timer, and where the darkest horrors haunt his dreams, painting visions of death.
