"We're going to die, we're going to die, we're going to die, WE ARE GOING TO DIE!!!" Katrina was pacing back and forth, driving herself mildly insane. She would talk to herself quietly and get progressively louder until her voice started to hurt. Soon, talking turned into sobbing, and eventually she was sitting on the floor against the wall crying uncontrollably.

"KAT! SNAP OUT OF IT!! THIS GAME IS MESSING WITH YOUR HEAD!" Colby shouted, making Katrina stop crying and stand up. She sat next to Colby, and apologised.

"I'm so sorry, Colby." Kat said as she wiped a stray tear from her eye. Colby forgave her and put his arm around her shoulder, holding her tight.

"Don't worry Kat, We will get through this."

They sat there in awkward silence for what seemed like hours, but it was really just a few minutes. They kept hearing noises downstairs, and they tried to ignore them, thinking they would stop soon. But they didn't. The noises got louder and closer with each passing minute.

"We can't stay here, Colby." Kat said after a while.

"I know, he will find us. Lets go downsta-"

"NO!" Kat screamed and pushed Colby away. "We can't." She curled up into a ball and started crying again.

"Kat, Jake and Sam might be alive! We need to go and find them! And we need to know how much longer we have until this game is over! There is a clock downstairs. Come on," Colby stood up and held his hand out, waiting for Katrina to take it.

"Ok. I'm trusting you Colby..." Kat reached out and grabbed Colby's hand. She stood up and they both started walking towards the staircase.

When they reached the staircase, both their candles flickered and went out, leaving them in complete darkness.

Something grabbed Katrina, covering her mouth and dragging her into the darkness. "COLBY! HELP! HELP ME! COLBY! PLEASE COL-" Katrina kicked and screamed but she hit her head on the wall and was knocked unconscious.

THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMp THUmp THump Thump thump...

Katrina's head made a loud thump with each step it hit. Her head hit the floor at the bottom of the spiral staircase and as soon as it did, Colby's candle lit. It was just him now.

"KATRINA! NOOO!!!" Colby screamed as he ran down the stairs and slipped on glass, landing in a dark red pool of blood. He hit his head on the second to last step and was knocked unconscious instantly.

He woke up to the sound of glass smashing and boiling hot wax all over his body. It was pitch black, except for one light. A small light. It was a little candle, sitting on the table in the kitchen. He saw a shadow smashing glass cups, plates and bowls. Colby watched with blurry vision. His body ached and when he tried to stand, he fell to the ground in pain. His clothes were soaked in Katrina's blood and there was broken glass everywhere. His head was pounding. Colby tried with all of his strength to stand up, but he fell back, hitting his head again, and blacked out.

Colby was weak, tired and alone. He reached out and grabbed Katrina's lifeless hand. It was so cold. So stiff. He closed his eyes and remembered what Sam told him before he died: "No light, no shadows. As simple as that."

Colby gathered the strength to open his eyes a little, and when he did, he caught a glimpse of someone, or something, walking towards him slowly. The Midnight Man had him now.

Colby looked at the clock, 3:21. So close. He couldn't give up now. He wouldn't....
