《Magai Story: The First Encounter》Boy He Bout To Do It

We got to Grady's house just as her mom was driving her to the hospital. We stood outside with her dad.

"Mr. Suchiwan, what happened?!" Stacey asked in Vietnamese. Daniela was translating to us in murmurs as the conversation went on.

"Grady was seeing blurry, so she texted Dania, then told her dad," she nodded, "We're really lucky she can text with her eyes closed, otherwise we would've never known."

"Okay, but can she really, because it was a mess," I remarked

"She could have used dictation?" Dania muttered.

"Well, her mom went with her so she has company at least." Sabine ignored us.

-----

"Hey, Grady," said Stacey, sniffling. Apart from being the skeptic in our group she was also the most emotional, somehow.

Grady had come back home and we surrounded her on her bed. She'd called Stacey first and then she called us to Grady's house.

While the five of us stood there I realized that she was exaggerating, obviously, her eyes had nothing to do with the rest of her body.

"Hi, Stacey. Has anyone discovered their abilities yet?" Grady asked weakly.

"You're so fake," I laughed.

She pressed her lips together so she wouldn't laugh.

"Yeah, the only ones left are you, Jozeey, and Marco," Dania didn't see through her act.

"Actually, no," Grady said dramatically, putting her hand to her head, "I have discovered my ability."

"What is it?" Stacey looked up from her phone. She was texting Marco.

"I can see auras, I think," she gave up the act now, "Well, that is all I see now, even with my eyes covered up."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa! You mean thats all you see?" Daniela asked.

"Well, I think it's sorta like heat vision. Everything seems to have an aura, so I think if I were to stand up and walk around, I could do it easily. I see the shape that everything has, but it has no detail to it." Grady explained.

"That's cool." Daniela was in awe, "I can kinda do something similar, if I concentrate."

"What?" Sabine asked. Daniela had gone invisible again. Forgettable? Maybe that was a better explanation.

"If I shut my eyes like this," she did, "Everything else goes darker and greyish, but I can see small little glittery lights inside all of you."

"That's not what I see," Grady cocked her head, "I see flowing energy. It radiates off people and a weaker energy radiates off everything else."

"Huh," Daniela whispered.

"Well, anyways," Stacey looked at her phone, "We gotta go to Marco's house 'cause he just wings apparently."

"Literally, no one cares," I said with an eyeroll.

"Literally, I do," she countered.

"Let's go, this should be fun!" Grady got out of bed and walked out of the room. She was slightly wobbly, but otherwise fine.

She yelled at her dad, probably that we were going out, and we saw another example of the Oblivion Effect.

One by one we all left the room and then the house. The walk to Marco's house was a short one. We were lucky we all lived in the same neighborhood because I'm sure I would not be willing to walk this much if we had to leave Greenway Park.

Marco was waiting for us at the gate to the backyard of his house. He waved us over, and we were all excited to see this development of his. I know what I said, but this type of stuff is cool.

"We're in the backyard, why exactly?" I tried to be snarky.

"Because my parents are home and if they find out about this, they'll freak," he wasn't snarky back.

"Imma take off my shirt, and you guys better not freak out either. Okay?"

We responded with head nods and quiet "okays".

His wings unfolded as he slid his t-shirt off his body. His feathers were pure white. His wingspan was longer than that of the girl who attacked me in Magai City.

"We have to test those things," I raised my eyebrows to show that I was impressed.

"Try to fly!" Stacey exclaimed.

He flapped his wings from front to back, only managing to hit us and leave us disheveled.

"No, no, no!" Stacey scolded, "You have to flap diagonally! Flap towards the ground!"

At this point Grady decided to walk around the backyard in a random pattern. I stifled a laugh.

When Marco tried again, he got an inch off the ground. He tried a few more times, and he got higher and higher every time.

He began to poke over the tall fence when he said, "What if someone sees us?"

"They won't. The Oblivion Effect will protect us," I said, "I've seen it work a couple of times. The lady from the hospital said it keeps people from seeing things that they can't explain."

"Can you see this?" he snapped his fingers and a flame appeared on the tip of his thumb.

"Also, yes, I can see that." I babbled. It was pretty cool.

Damn it, I thought.

"That's pretty neat," Dania began, "but don't you think that Carlos can fly, too? I mean without wings."

Dania was throwing shade that I wasn't sure I could back up.

"You mean, like levitate myself?" I was doubtful.

"Totally," Sabine agreed.

"Try it, try it!" Grady was looking over here now.

So I gripped my body mentally and with a lot less effort than Marco was putting into flapping his wings, I floated a whole ten feet into the air in an instant.

Marco looked at me with frustration and I was happy that he felt that way.

I'm glad I dragged him like that. I deserved to win for once.
