《Whatever》Chapter 13

"Noooo... it's the pizzaman. Of course it's me Jay!" Christian said while standing up to walk to me. I chuckled and hugged him back. "Last time I saw you was during easter! How are Uncle Derek and Aunt Alexa?" My aunt and uncle went to visit Uncle Derek's side of the family two weeks ago as there was a family emergency and Christian goes to boarding school.
Christian replied while smiling, "Oh, gran just had the case of the cold that's all. Mom and dad had a fit when they say how dirty her house was which was filled with old stuff she collected from the years. So, they decided to help her clean the house straight away. Seriously, I think there are some bugs there in the house that are still unknown to science." I laughed loudly and said, "It's so good to have you here Grey." He rolled his eyes at me and just ruffled my hair.
"So, are you gonna get ready for your party or not?" he asked while settling down on my bed. I just gestured to all of me and said, "What? This not good enough for you?" He laughed, "It always is but come on. Don't you want to be presentable? This is your first party in a long time." I just shrugged and said, "I don't do dresses unless I absolutely have no choice and since my closet does not have much dresses," Christian cut me off by saying, "Look again."
I looked at him, puzzled but walked yo where my closet was and saw a black dress bag with a letter tied with a ribbon to the hanger. I untied it and opened the letter which said,
Jesse,
Knowing your mother from her youth, I knew you would turn out the same meaning, you don't do dresses. However, as your aunt and godmother, I have bippity boppity boo-ed up a dress which reminded me of you and asked Christian to bring it today as my gift to you.
Keyword here is 'my' which means, Christian and your uncle had to get you their own gifts.
Yes. I picked the dress with the least of sparkles and glam.
Love,
Aunt Alexa
I laughed at the letter knowing the trouble for Christian and Uncle Derek to find me a gift. I placed the letter on an unoccupied cubby hole and slid down the zipper to see a dress that takes my breath away.
It was made of satin and had enough shine on the bodice that made me love the dress even more. "So, you like it?" asked Christian from behind me. I turned to him and said with a straight face, "No." His face gave away a look of 'I told you so' but then I grinned and said, "I love it!" He looked shocked but then laughed and replied, "Damn it! I owe mom $5!" I chuckled then said, "I'm gonna shower then wear the dress and do my hair. You can go help mom or dad with the party." He saluted me and walked out of my room.

I locked my door and quickly took a shower and went back to my closet to wear the dress. As I slipped on the dress, I felt a small shiver of knowing that I would finally look beautiful. I knew that I was just a normal girl but for today, I'll wear a dress.
As I walked out of the room, I saw another unexpected guest on my bed which was none other then Rose. "Oh my god! Rose! I haven't seen you since christmas! How are Uncle Logan and Aunt Jo? How did you get in?" She laughed and pointed to the balcony while shaking her now black dyed hair and explained, "Since baby Leo was born, their hands are full so I'm here on my own which is fine. And the best part is, I can no longer hear him crying his lungs out." I chuckled and said, "You came just at the nick of time. I need your help with my hair and make up. Please?" Even though she was just 14, she was talented at these kinds of things.
She bowed to me like a gentleman instead of curtsying and said, "As you wish. And also because that is my gift to you. Happy birthday Jess." I hugged her and said thank you then quickly sat on my chair which faced my vanity table where all her make up and hair styling gadgets were already.
From the beginning, Rose forbade me to open my eyes and see the process of my 'transformation'. Anyhow, after what seemed like forever, she finally completed it and said, "Oh. There was this gift outside of your door." She handed it over to me and I opened it. It was a pair of black heeled shoes that wasn't too high. I checked the lid of the box and saw it was written with a cursive letter K.
Kya.
I hope her and Ryder solved their relationship. I quickly put them on and walked around. Comfortable to walk in is very important.
Thank you Kya.
"Look at how you look Jess! You look so much different then before." I stared at my relfection. The girl staring back at me looked mysterious and had a confidence that would come easily. Her eyes now looking smoky with dark red lips that pull back to a smile which revealed white teeth.
I never knew that by looking beautiful, I could be so unrecognisable. Then I heard a knock at the door and opened it to reveal gran with a 2 black velvet boxes, one medium and flat and the other small like a cube, in her hands.

"Oh. Jesse. If your granddad were here today he would demand that you stay in your room for the rest of your life." she said while laughing and wiping away the tears. I laughed along with her and let her inside my room. "Sweetie, before your grandad passed away, he left you something and told me to give it to you on your 16th birthday. The day you meet your mate." I felt my smile slip but then quickly put it back on and asked, "He did?" She nodded and replied, "While finding this gift, I also bought a gift for you as well and I hope you like it."
She then opened the small black velvet box first and it contained a locket with a beautiful cover with birds and butterflies. I turned to the back of the locket and it was engraved with the words, "Be Brave and Dream".
Gran took it out of the box and made me turn around so that she can put it on me. It hung till where my heart was and it opened at my first attempt to open the locket.
My eyes misted over when I saw a tiny photo of mom and dad with me as baby on the left and a picture and gran with me as a baby as well on the right." I closed it slowly and said in a whisper, "Thank you gran. I love it."
She smiled at me then opened the next box which contained the gift grandad bought for me before he passed away. It was breathtaking.
It had dark coloured roses that would contrast with my dress and the crown of blue roses which Christian got for me. Gran also helped me put it on and then I hugged her tightly. "I really wish he was here gran." I said and she replied while rubbing my back, "Me as well love." I then pulled away and wiped away the stray tear that fell from her eye.
"I'll keep it safe gran. The locket and the bracelet." She smiled and said, "Hold on. There are two more people who want to give you something as well."
She opened the door and there stood my parents. "Happy birthday Jess." They greeted with soft smiles. They then handed me a flat white velvet box. I opened it slowly and a smile came upon my lips. The one thing that I have always wanted and they got it for me.
They got me the vintage gold bracelet I saw when I was fourteen. I didn't buy it back then because it was during my birthday and I felt guilty for wanting to buy it as it was the day we would remember granddad. So with a heavy heart, I walked away from it and tried to find it myself in secret.
As I touched the bracelet, "How did you know?" I asked quietly. "Of all the things you saw on our trips for holidays or businesses, I never saw you look at something so intently and just kept coming back to it when nothing else looked like it could compare to the first." explained dad while unhooking the bracelet. "I called your mom over and we smiled when we saw you always coming back to it again and again. Ever since we came back, I noticed you would look at other shops that sold bracelets. So, your mother and I ordered this bracelet and it has been sitting in our room since a month ago." And with that said, he placed it around my wrist and I springed opened the catch of the book locket which said, "Once Upon A Time".
I hugged them both and said to them, "I love it." They hugged me back and told me, "We love you Jess. We're gonna go get ready first okay?" Then all of them went out of my room to go get ready themselves.
An hour later, I was standing a few steps away from the stairs that was to be my grand entrance. Butterflies started to fill my stomach as the time drew closer.
I fingered the locket gran gave me which also had granddad's dogtags which I added just a few minutes ago, now covered with rubber so that there won't be any scratch marks on the locket.
I hope everything goes well tonight.
"And finally,"
Deep breath in.
"Let us welcome,"
Deep breath out.
"Jesse!"
Show time.
