《The Invitation》Chapter 2

Flour flew in puffy clouds all around her as Loretta patted down the voluminous folds of her heavy skirt. Hearing a cough behind her, she twirled around, only causing the flour that had settled down to take flight once again.
Looking guilty, Farah said, "Oh dear! I truly apologize Miss for intruding, this seems to be a very delicate moment, one that doesn't require my presence, in fact I wouldn't even have intruded if I hadn't something of terrible urgence and importance for you Miss."
She handed out a letter, and partly to stop the poor maid from starting off again and partly out of curiosity, Loretta plucked it out of her hand. With a small curtsy Farah left and Loretta took off her useless apron and surveyed the damage done to the kitchen and to her brand-new yellow muslin silk dress, with a sigh she left the kitchen. "And that is why I never enter the kitchen", she muttered beneath her breath.
Between the process of performing her ablutions and recounting the stories of the woes of cooking to her friends, the letter, forgotten by Loretta, lay in its solitude on the vast dining table until dinner time.
It was when she sat down for the dinner, that had, thankfully not been prepared by her, did she finally open the letter. And Oh!! It was all she could do to not drop her fork, which she did by the time she read the second line. The letter was from Lady Armeshire, the cause of her first outburst of excitement. And it was inviting her to the annual revelries of the Armeshire manor. THAT was the news that had caused her fork to drop from her hand.
The dinner forgotten; Lorretta sprang from her chair to go vaunt her fortunes.
