《Nick Wilde X Reader | A New Partner》Sunset

"These pretzels are amazing!" You said after scarfing the first doughy pretzel and reaching for the next. The cheese dip with it was amazing too.

Nick and you had gotten hungry recently and wandered back over to Mark for some food. You graciously thanked him for giving both of you some of his 'Best-Of-Zootopia' pretzels. You two sat at a table under an awning and learned they were nothing short of the name.

"Agreed. I hadn't tried these until now, kind of wish I had."

Nick was still on his first pretzel, you should probably slow down so you don't finish way before him.

Shifting in your seat, you moved the stuffed animal that was sitting on the table onto the seat next to you.

"I still can't believe you won this giant bat.."

He grinned and dipped the last pretzel bit into the cheese cup. "It was just luck."

"It's kind of hard to carry around."

Nick wiped his paws with the napkins, "Want me to take it back to the van?" He stood up, apparently already making his decision.

"Sure."

"Alright," You handed him the cute brown bat, "I'll be right back."

Wilde carried the bat under his arm and called over his shoulder, "Save my drink!"

You finished your last pretzel and walked over to toss the napkins and things into the trash. On your way, the sun blinded you; it was low in the sky now and could hit everyone right in their eyes.

The upside was that Sahara Square was beginning to cool down. It was crazy the amount of control the engineers of Zootopia could place on the weather.

Taking your seat once again to make sure no one took Nick's drink, you noticed the giant ferris wheel that was near the center of the fair. You two haven't been on the ferris wheel yet.

Maybe you could both go during the sunset? ..That'd be perfect!

As you imagined your ferris wheel ride together, Nick sauntered back up and leaned on the table. He raised his other paw to block out the sun, muttering, "I should have brought my sunglasses.."

But he turned his attention away from the sun and back to you: "So what do you want to do next?"

"..How about the ferris wheel? It would be nice to see the whole fair at sunset.."

"Sounds good," He grabbed his drink, "let's go."

It wasn't too far of a walk. Which was good, because your legs were a bit sore from today. Upon rounding the last corner, you saw a rather extensive line of animals waiting to ride the ferris wheel.

"Wow, that's a long line."

"Better get started."

The line stretched out slightly from where the official queue ended. After standing for a while, however, you realized that although the line was long, tons of animals could get on at once.

Observing the slow-moving ride, you noticed how it was tailored for animals of every size. The passenger cars alternated sizes; one for large animals, one for medium animals, and a couple here and there for the smallest animals. Each one was placed accordingly so there would be correct weight distribution.

As the sun sunk lower in the sky, you paced slowly through the line.

"Looks like we'll make it just in time."

"Hmm."

Nick was leaning on the chain, looking out towards the many animals walking around. He seemed kind of out of it.

This wasn't like him. But you figured you shouldn't pry. Sooo, you just waited for your turn to board.

"Finally." You said as the animals in front of you boarded; you two were next.

Nick just nodded in response to your comment.

What had happened? Weren't you both having a good time? Why did he change all of a sudden?

The doors to the white passenger car opened and you both got in. Wilde sat across from you, but didn't look at you. He had his arms resting on the passenger car's sides.

Sighing, you turned and watched as your gondola slowly turned with the ferris wheel as animals got off and more boarded.

Miraculously, the last animals boarded while your car was right near the top. This gave you a chance to look out and see plenty of Zootopia. You could see the sunset over the water, the giant buildings of downtown, the shiny snow of Tundra Town. It was amazing. The orange glow from the sun and the long shadows it cast..

You were jolted from your observations as Nick Wilde moved from his side and sat down right next to you.

With a smile plastered on your face, you turned over to look at Nick except.. he was ignoring you. Again.

The smile disappeared and you turned away annoyed.

"Look, what's the matter? One second we're having fun and the nex-"

You were cut off as a soft paw slid behind your neck and pulled you in. A glimpse of his green eyes is all you caught before they closed.

You closed your eyes too. Inhaling, you reached for him and placed a paw onto his chest. You accepted his advances and melted as your lips gently connected. Nick's warmth and smell, it sent a faint shiver down your spine. The kiss was light at first, but you pushed into him as it went on. His taste was heavenly, but it couldn't last forever.

Opening your eyes, you watched Nick slowly pull back and open his eyes too. Thin orange fur, accented by the evening sunset, tossed in the slight breeze. Taking a breath, you removed your paw from his chest.

You couldn't think of what to say...
