《Nick Wilde X Reader | A New Partner》The Pawpsicle

You zipped up your hoodie. Oh god its cold. You weren't prepared for trudging around in the snow in Tundra Town. It's literally below freezing.

You helped Nick lift the cooler into the van. It was filled with freshly re-frozen pawpsicles. Now that your job here was done, you rushed back to your seat and frantically tried to turn up the AC.

Mr. Wilde, on the other hand, seemed much more used to the cold; he closed the back doors and simply strolled back to his seat.

He hopped into the van and looked over to see that you were still shivering. You smiled innocently at him while rubbing your paws together. Nick laughed.

Reaching back behind his seat, he pulled out a little black beanie. "Here we are." You froze as he leaned over to put it on you. He carefully folded your ears back and pulled the hat over them.

Your face flushed hot from how gentle he was with you.

"There, perfect fit."

"T-thanks."

The music turned on and Nick looked over the seat as he backed out, "Don't mention it."

It is was quiet for a minute. Not literally quiet, because there was music playing, but still an awkwardness you didn't necessarily care for. This fox was still impossible to figure out.

Thankfully, however, Nick took in a noticeable breath and decided to end the stiffness. He began to explain what the next thing they would be doing is.

There was a popular business area for rodents right down the road from little Rodentia. It was one of the spots he hit everytime he sold his pawpsicles. Apparently, the lemmings there loved when he dropped by.

You watched Nick as he drove. With one hand on the wheel and the other holding his coffee, he pointed around with his pinky at places that he would frequent with his old partner for a quick buck.

What happened to his old partner?

He had stopped explaining, but you didn't notice. You saw his green eyes dart towards you.

You jumped and quickly turned to look out the window on your right. Oh crap, you must have been staring.

Whew, that was bad. Still.. you simply couldn't resist a glance back at him. Trying not to be obvious, you turned and looked over your shoulder. It seemed Nick looked pleased with himself for making you jump like that.

Did he like you? He must like you. Otherwise, would you even be here?

..Why were you even here? Oh that's right; because you liked him.

Luckily, the awkward ride should be over soon. Little Rodentia was right down the street. Nick pulled the van as close as he could to the selling spot.

"Okay, it's right down the road. Just have to wheel the cooler over."

You took the sign, Nick took the cooler. It was a nice day outside, albeit a bit hot. Guess that's why flavored ice sells so well.

As you two got to the spot and began to set up, you realized how good of system he had here; The pawpsicles would sit upright in the snow, stay cold, and the sign could sit right against the open lid of the cooler.

Propping the sign up, Nick finished arranging all the pawpsicles. He pulled out his phone to check the time.

"Only 10 minutes until their lunch break."

Leaning against the cooler, you both checked stuff on your phones. How social. He broke the silence again, however, by pointing his phone towards you.

"You've helped me out a lot today. Here's my number."

That was unexpected. "H-hah, alright." Omigosh. You've actually got his number. You guys could stay in touch now. In your contacts, you added 'Nick Wilde.'

(What would you have made his contact name?)

Nick returned to his phone, "Send me a text so I can add you too."

After you had both finished exchanging information, you looked up just in time to see a bunch of lemmings pour out of some small doors.

"Hey, start passing them out. Two dollars each," He told you as he grabbed one himself.

"Pawpsicles! Get your Pawpsicles!"

Tons of the little mice-looking-things rushed over to both of you. Did you even have enough to give them all?

As it turns out, Nick was a lot faster at passing them out than you were. Rightfully so, you guess.

The big group slowly dispersed after each lemming got a pawpsicle. Apparently Nick really knew his customers because not one pawpsicle was left after they were all done.

"How much did you get?"

"$36..? I think?"

"$64." Oh. Yeah, he was a tad bit better.

"And that's only our first batch. We still have the other 3 jars in the van." He gestured towards where it was parked.

"Awesome." ...Ugh. You were still a bit quiet around him.

Nick took the sign off the cooler and closed the lid. "Say, I've been thinking," he laid the sign down on the cooler, "Want to be my new partner?"

Oh my god. This is all you've wanted this entire time. But, there was one problem: You had only just met this fox.

You didn't care.

Gotta keep it cool. "Sure."

He grinned. "Right. You can pocket that $36, then. We can go freeze some more pawpsicles for selling later. But for now," Nick grabbed the handle on the cooler, "let's go get something to eat."

"Aw Sounds good, I'm starving."
