She was a storm. Not the kind you run from. The kind you chase.

-Maggie-
The weekend left as soon as it came and I wasn't looking forward to school. It's always the same. The dirty looks, the rumors, the comments, the whole judgement in general.
I parked my car and took a few deep breaths before stepping out.
"Thanks to her our school reputation is ruined."
I took another deep breath and sped up a little.
I was practically running down the hall now as they got worse, but as I turned the corner I bumped into someone. I fell along with the person's text books and silently cursed myself.
"Sorry, sorry, sorry." I repeated. I stacked the books and gave it to the familiar guy before running off, slipping inside the first bathroom I saw.
Breathe, Maggie. Breathe.
I opened my eyes and gripped on the sink as I looked in the mirror. Splashing my face with cold water, I dabbed it dry with some paper towel and walked out of the bathroom.
Halfway through third period my name was called by my physics teacher.
"Maggie, you are wanted at the front office." I nodded and stood up to leave the classroom.
"Please don't come back." Someone said, followed by some people who hummed in agreement.
I walked down the empty halls and made my way to the front office, meeting with the secretary.
"I was called up here." I said. She sighed and picked up the phone.
"She's here.... alright." After hanging up, she looked at me.
"Go ahead." She pointed to the principal's office and I hesitantly walked toward it before opening the door.
"Maggie, please take a seat." Mr. McAdams said.
"Is there a problem with something sir?" I asked. He crossed his arms on the desk and tilted his head. "You tell me." He replied.
I furrowed my eyebrows. "I can't say I understand what you're talking about." Mr. McAdams sighed and leaned back in his chair.
"I've been hearing the comments people are saying about you, and I wanted to check if you are okay. A majority of them are really cruel and I know being in this situation can be hard." He said.
"I'm fine." I reassured it with nod and clasped my hands together.
"You know, there's this therapy group my daughter goes to, maybe you'd want to check it out? I can speak with your parents and arrange-"
"Mr. McAdams, I appreciate your concern but I'm okay. There's no need for therapy or any type of consolation."
Liar.
"If you change your mind just come knocking at my door. I can arrange a meeting." He reminded. I smiled and stood up.
"Thank you. I should get to class now."
Right before I reached the door he spoke up.
"Oh, Maggie?" I sighed and turned around. "Yes sir?"
"Do you think you could spare a few minutes after school? We have a new student and I need someone to show him around. Someone who wouldn't throw their self at him." He clarified.
I furrowed my eyebrows and nodded slowly. "Um, sure. Do I come here after?"
He smiled and nodded his head. "Yes please. Thank you very much." I nodded and walked out of the office, making my way back to class.
I went to my locker since third period was about to end anyways. There was a note taped to it.
You're doing a WHORE-iffic job in disgusting me.

I snatched the note off my locker and stuffed it in my back pack as well. A few tears escaped my eyes as I opened my locker.
I jumped back when a bunch of papers came flying out.
They were all in different colors and each of them had colorful words that people used to describe me. I sobbed as I picked them up and threw them away in the trash bin.
Suddenly, there were some footsteps coming near me and I froze. I can't let anyone see me like this at all.
The bell went off and students started to fill the halls. I used that as my escape and hid in between the people as I made my way to the bathroom to clean my face.
This is most likely the worst day I've had in school.

-Luke-
By the time the weekend left, my room was completely finished and I was completely tired.
Monday came along and my mum barged in my room. "Luke, you're going to be late for your first day of school. It's already eight in the morning!" She exclaimed, pointing at the digital clock I had.
I looked and it and sighed. "Mum, the clock says half past seven, not eight." I stated, pointing at the green numbers.
She rolled her eyes and waved her hand. "Just start getting dressed or else you can make your own breakfast." She warned.
I groaned and stood up to get ready. One day I'll just spend a whole twenty-four hours sleeping with no interruptions.
**********
"Due to the time, I'll just give you directions to your first class. After school come back in here and I'll have someone show you around. Is that okay?" The secretary asked.
I nodded and took my schedule from her extended hand.
"Have a great first day." I thanked her and walked out of the office, following the directions on the paper. I was looking down the whole time that I didn't even notice the girl running down the hall as I rounded the corner.
The textbooks I was given fell along with the girl. She stacked my books hurriedly and shoved them in my arms as she apologized.
I recognized her as the girl I almost hit the other day. She paid no attention and started to run off again. "Wait!" I picked up the paper that fell from her back pack.
Disgusting slut.
I frowned at the note and folded it up before shoving it in my back pocket.
Why would she have this in her back pack?
The bell went off and I silently cursed as I rushed to class. I bloody hope that the teacher doesn't make me do that 'tell everyone something about yourself' thing. It annoys me a lot.
*******
Time passed by fast and I was already in third period, which was math. I was excused to go to the bathroom, but on my way I saw the same girl from earlier on the floor picking up some rainbow colored papers. That wasn't what caught my attention though, she was crying.
Don't you dare go pry into her business Luke. Don't you dare-
To hell with it.
I started to walk towards her slowly. I was about to speak once I was behind her but the bell went off and she dashed as students started to fill the halls.
I shook my head in confusion and went off to my fourth class. There were some whispers about some girl and some whispers about me being the new kid.

Apparently there's this Maggie girl people are talking about. In every school I've been to a girl gets pregnant, so I wasn't really shocked to hear that there was a teen mom at this school.
I walked into my fourth and last class of the day and went to sit somewhere until the teacher stopped me. Bloody hell.
"Everyone, we have a new student today." She cheered. Girls giggled and guys just nodded once in greeting.
"Why won't you tell us your name and where you're from?" The teacher asked. I sighed and resisted the urge to glare at her.
"I'm Luke Banfield, and I'm from England." I was about to walk to a seat until the teacher started speaking again. "What part of England?" She asked.
I sighed. "Bath." I made a beeline to the first chair I saw and sat on it before she could even say another word.
The teacher nodded and gave me a smile. "Well I hope you're finding your first day of school interesting. Right class, let's begin for today. Please open up your-"
She stopped talking as the classroom door opened and the girl walked in. She looked down as she shut the door behind her. "Sorry I'm late." She murmured.
"And we're sorry we know you." Someone retorted. I frowned as everyone started to laugh.
"Okay, that's enough." The teacher said sternly. She looked at the girl and gave her a small smile.
"Why don't you take a seat Maggie? We haven't exactly started yet." I furrowed my eyebrows.
She's the girl who got knocked up? I almost hit a pregnant person? I felt guilt gnawing at me. I could've hurt this girl and her baby.
I never expected her to be that pregnant girl in school though. She isn't showing yet, so I have no idea how everyone knows, unless her boyfriend spread the news, or maybe someone found out and let the secret out.
My mind flashed back to the note that fell from her back pack, the comments people have been saying, and how she was crying earlier.
I have no idea why but I felt as if I needed to take the attention away from her.
I think it's guilt for almost hurting her baby.
I was trying to figure out how to do that until I heard the teacher speak. "Okay guys, if I say, 'I am beautiful', which tense is that?" She asked.
I bit my lip.
Should I?
I sighed and prayed for forgiveness before laughing and rising my hand. Everyone looked surprised that as the new kid I would've done that.
"Ah, Luke!" Ms. Avercill pointing her old wrinkly finger at me and I smirked as everyone turned to look at me.
I hope this makes everyone stop.
"Well, looking at you now, I would say it's obviously past." She widened her eyes as some students gasped and started to laugh quietly.
"Mr. Banfield, that was rude!" She exclaimed. I shrugged and put my hand up to gesture at her.
"I apologize, but let's be realistic. I mean, how old are you?" I asked.
She glared at me and crossed her wrinkled arms. "That is none of your business young man."
I gave her a sympathetic smile. "Oh, I get it. You were born before they even invented numbers." I replied.
Her face turned red and she represented a saggy tomato.
"Who do you think you are?" She asked. I widened my eyes and stood up.
"Are you serious? We're you not paying attention in the beginning of class? I'm Luke Banfield and I'm from Bath, England. I can't believe you would forget that." I scrunched up my nose before shaking my head.
"Never mind, depending on your age it's a normal symptom."
The bell went off just as I finished speaking and everyone stood up to leave, already spreading the news.
I looked to the left to see Maggie. She was looking at me in shock. I smiled and held up my hand, giving her a thumbs up.
She furrowed her eyebrows and I walked off, making my way to the front office.
**********
-Maggie-
I gaped at the guy who almost hit me two days ago, already piecing together that he was the new kid and that he could be trouble. I sighed and made my way to the front office after stuffing my books in my locker.
As I walked through the halls I realized something. There wasn't even one dirty look sent my way or any rude comments about me. Heck, everyone was focused on the new kid and his confrontation with Ms. Avercill.
"He did what everyone has been dying to do."
"Luke is a totally cute and he's brave too."
I snickered when I heard that one. For once there was a real smile on my face.
I made it to the office and Mr. McAdams properly introduced me to Luke before sending us off. The halls were empty by now and there were only a few teachers walking around.
"Okay, this is section C out of the building. Here is practically any class that has to do with talent studies, such as art, music, drama class," I trailed off with a small smile as I pointed at the next door. "Dance class. There's even a small technician group where people make practically anything." I explained as I led Luke down the hall.
He nodded as he looked around and then we went through the next set of double doors.
"This is the final section, D." I gestured my hands around as I spoke. "Basically everything here has to do with health. Science, P.E, here's the nurse's room, and the chemical closet. So that's basically it from this school. Any questions?" I asked.
He shook his head and smiled. "No, I think I got it all now."
I nodded and looked down at my twiddling thumbs. "I wanted to say thanks, you know, for that whole thing in English lit. Everyone seemed to forget about a certain something and it's just a relief."
Luke nodded his head and scratched the back of his neck. "Uh, yeah. I've been meaning to ask, I didn't hurt you or your baby the other day while you were running, did I?" I frowned and crossed my arms.
"What do you mean? I didn't even have him with me." I replied.
He looked confused and looked down at my stomach. "I'm pretty sure that's how the whole pregnancy thing works. You know, the baby is inside your stomach." I sighed as I realized what he meant.
"I'm aware of that. I'm not currently pregnant right now though. I already had my baby." I said. He widened his eyes in acknowledgement. "Oh, I get it. So, you're just known as the girl who got knocked up and messed up her life?"
I scoffed and placed my hands on my hips. "It concerns you how?" I looked at him and he shrugged. "I'm not saying it does. People were just saying stuff when I first walked in here, that's all."
I shook my head and started to walk off. "Yeah, well you can't just judge me based on what people say." I reminded. Luke sped up to catch up with me.
"Wait, that came out wrong. I'm not judging you at all. Heck, the reason I did that thing today was to get everyone to lay off you for a bit." I froze and looked at him.
"Why would you do that? You barely even know me." I crossed my arms and waited for a reply, but then something popped in my mind.
"Oh, I get it. It's sympathy." I laughed bitterly and started to walk again.
"No! No, it isn't sympathy. I just- it was- okay fine. Some of it, only a little, was sympathy."
"Okay, listen. What you did, was really nice, but if people find out I'm the reason why you did that then trust me, everything will get a whole lot worse. Just please stay away from me." I said.
My phone started ringing and I took it out to see Sarah's picture on te screen. I answered the call. "Hey, what up?"
"Mags, I'm worried. Graham's been crying a lot and he has a pretty high fever, I don't know-"
"Grab a cloth and dampen it with lukewarm water, then gently press it against his back. I'm on my way." I hung up the phone and started running towards the A section of the building since my car was parked there.
Luke walked in a normal pace right beside me since he had longer legs and looked confused. "What happened?" He asked.
I was getting a little frustrated since I was running as fast as I can while he was just taking a friggin stroll in the park. Damn shortness.
"I have to go home because there's something urgent that needs to be taken care of. I would give you directions to you house but I have no idea where you live, nor do I care, so use a GPS or something." I started to run a little faster while he just started to speed walk.
"Okay, maybe I can-"
"Go home. You can go home. You barely know me. Goodbye Luke." I stepped outside and ran towards my car, driving off to my house as fast as I could.

I have been absolutely delighted to see such a positive response to this (On Scribble Hub) and have decided to continue Talo's story. I have several ideas about this and will be twining her story into the novels as I figure it out. I am very much a Pantser so I have no idea how this will play out. I hope you enjoy the ride as we explore these concepts.
