《it's archaic》layla

☾︎ i asked you if it hurts, when some feelings you were craving never seemed to return,

and your laugh was bitter in a way i didn't understand,

poison dripping from your lips to the shattered ground on which you stand.

and you felt like Tamerlane,

hurting hearts end in disdain,

and you chose your sword over your love, but even that wasn't enough,

to fill a void that mists around your soul,

to fill a void with which you are growing old.

but no matter what you do,

the love once lost

never comes back to you.

☾︎ i asked you why you hid that locket in the pocket of your stone blue jeans,

and your answer was a riddled yearning for your youth more than just a few words to me.

Layla, was that her name?

i see your eyes slowly begin to change, scintillating with the same regrets with which you have lived, sadness and smiles can never be knit together,

you say with a sorrow etched on the insides of your voice forever.

Where did you go wrong with a love like that?

and you wonder how different life would be if you had spent it with her,

Layla, i wonder if she would let you be a reckless carouser?

but it's too late now, isn't it?

and no matter what you do,

Layla is lost and

she isn't coming back to you.

highly inspired by ‘Tamerlane’ by Edgar Allan Poe, follows the same concept. Thank you for reading.
