《Everlasting ღ Newt TMR¹》14. We Got a Girl Greenie

After we checked if they were back, Newt and I had walked to Frypan's to grab something small to eat to keep ourselves busy. We ended up just sitting across from each other at the table, staring at a sandwich.
I feel my body beginning to shake with fear for my friends, what if something happens to them? I notice a warmth enclose my hand, and glance down quickly to see another wrapped around my own. I look up, and my eyes meet with Newt's as I feel my cheeks heat up.
I observe the worry painted across his face, the fear in his eyes.
I lean across the table so I can whisper to him, "Are you doing alright."
"I don't even know anymore Lori" he laughs bitterly.
"Well, I'm here for you" I squeeze his hand out of reassurance.
He looks over to me and smiles, "I know"
We both sit in silence, hoping for something to come along.
And finally, it did.
"Newt!" Someone screams across the Glade. We both immediately turn towards the doors, to see Thomas standing there, looking back and forth between the Maze and Newt.
"They're coming! I can see 'em!"
Newt is instantly up on his feet, and breaks into a stuttering run across the Glade, towards the Maze doors. I quickly stand up and run after him, catching up fairly quickly. I stay alongside Newt as we run together towards Thomas's fidgeting figure.
The doors are closing quickly. I can't see Minho or Alby, but due to Thomas's stance, I would assume they are no closer to reaching the doors. Newt and I are just past half way to Thomas, and the doors are almost shut now.
Thomas turns back towards us once more, a peculiar glint in his eye.
"Thomas?" I shout.
Newt takes a breif look at me, then back to Thomas, catching on to my thinking. He's going to go in after them, is the only thought streaming through my mind.
"Don't do it, Tommy! Don't you bloody do it!" Newt screams to him. We begin to pick up the pace, but by the time we have ran another five metres, it is too late.
Thomas has ran into the Maze.
I slow to a stop, as the Maze doors slam shut with a sickening crunch.
The Gladers who were going to the doors have all stopped by now, completely shocked by Thomas's actions. Even I was shocked, and I had already broke that rule, like, two days ago.
"How could they not have made it?" I mutter to no one in particular. "If Thomas could see them when he screamed to Newt, they could've ran that distance in that amount of time."
"Something must have happened to one of them" someone answers. I turn to see Gally, a group of who I believe to be Builders surrounding him.
"I guess so. Minho and Alby are fast runners, unless something was wrong, they would have made it back"
He nods before turning to me "It was probably a Griever that injured one of them. Was it even dead?" One of his followers questions me.
"Huh? Was it even dead when you found it, shuckface? Or were you trin' to get another stung like you did with Newt?" Another shouts at me.

I stumble backwards slightly as they continues to comment and theorize what happened, "You can't actually be serious? You think I planned this?" I hiss.
They fall silent as Gally points his finger at me, and carries on his group's rant, "I think, that ever since you showed up, everything has gone wrong"
"Now, that's not a very nice thing to say" I smirk. Probably not the time to be a smart ass Lori, I tell at myself.
"You've caused this. We know you have" A light haired builder shouts.
"We'll make them all see it, I can promise you that. They're all blind to it, they all think you're innocent, but we know what you really are" another says.
"And what's that?" I ask, tilting my head to the side in mock interest.
"You're a fraud. You're the end wrapped in a neat little package that no one would consider. You pretend to be friends with them all, but you'll turn on 'em eventually. Even your boyfriend" Gally snarls.
All I do is sigh, "Whatever, Gally. I'm not in the mood to argue with you over this"
I turn to leave, and as I'm walking away, I hear Gally shout "They'll all see soon enough. The attacks, people being Banished; it's all because of you."
///////////////
I sit in my room, motionlessly staring at a wall. I wonder if I stare at it long enough, my boredom will melt away along with the anxious fire hitting my every nerve.
I sit there a little longer.
It doesn't.
I let out a frustrated moan and fall back onto the bed. I feel like I want to sleep, but somehow, I don't actually have the energy to do so. As I lay there, I hear someone rap on the door ever so lightly. I tell them to come in, as I sit up to greet the person about to walk in the door, praying to whoever is out there that it is not Gally.
Newt.
I feel as if cold water has been poured into my veins, cooling my body down enough that the heavy anxiety has been washed away.
"How are you feeling?" I ask him as he steps into the room.
He laughs under his breath, "Come on Lor, that's not fair, that was going to be my opening line."
I smile and pat the bed next to me, motioning for him to join me. "Did you just call me Lor?"
"Oh, sorry." I sneak a peek up at him, to see his jaw set, his lips curve, and a strawberry blush dusting his cheeks.
"Don't be. I like it" I reply as he walks over and sits beside me.
We sit there for a while, comforting ourselves with the other's presence. "They'll make it out of there. I know they will."
"How can you be so sure?"
With a sigh, I answer "I can't be. But see, that's the beauty of faith, Newt; we don't need to be entirely sure."
Newt runs a hand through his hair, before turning towards me and smiling, "I don't understand how you can be so optimistic, Lori. Can't you see the outcome of the Maze? We're all going to die in here."

"But it doesn't have to be that way, Newt. I think there's a way out, you just haven't found it yet."
Newt falls silent, a smile still lingering on his face. He sits staring at me, searching my face.
My heart kicks up a few beats, and I feel as if butterflies have taking residence inside of me.
I cough awkwardly, and break his gaze. I turn the other way, my hair coming around to hit me in the face.
"I- I think we should rest. You know, so we are ready when the doors open."
I turn back to Newt, only to see a thoroughly shocked expression plastered upom his features. I sat back down next to him that very instant, trying to figure out what happened in those few seconds.
"Newt, what's wrong?"
"There's - there's writing, or something, on the back of your neck"
"What?" I whisper.
"Turn around" he spits out. I turn around and pull my hair away, baring the back of my neck. I shudder as Newt's finger skim across my neck.
"What, um, what's there" I whisper shakily.
"Writing" He mutters. "There is a written tattoo on the back of your neck."
"What does it say?"
"How did this get here, Lori?" He lets my hair fall as he says this.
I stand up and turn towards him, looking him straight in the eye, "Newt, what does it say?"
He looks away like he's not going to answer my question until I answer his.
"I don't know how it got there, I swear! Now please tell me what it says" I whimper.
"It says: Property of WICKED. Group A, Subject A6."
"Is that all?"
Newt sighs, "No"
He stands up and walks until he is standing directly in front of me. "It calls you 'The Deciever'."
"What?" I shout. I scramble towards the door, needing air.
"Lori, wait!" I hear Newt shout from behind me,
They were right, Gally and his friends were right. I don't know how that got there, but it just prooves it. Everything that has been happening is my fault. Newt being stung, Alby and Minho getting trapped, Thomas is probably my fault as well somehow.
"Please, Newt, just leave me alone!" I shout. I run until I reach the Deadheads, collapsing in the leaves as the sky grows dark.
///////////////
The light hurt my eyes as I woke. I sat up, the silence drowning any thought. I stand and look out towards the Glade, to see the doors already open.
How did I sleep through that, I think to myself.
I get up off of the ground and ran towards the door which Thomas ran through the previous day. On my way there, someone grabs my arm.
"Lori, I need to talk to you" Newt says. "And they're not back yet if you're wondering."
"Fine. Just let go of me" I say, pulling away.
"Something happened, while we were in the Maze."
Newt's words shock me, and I lose the ability to reply.
"Before he left, Alby told me that a Greenie arrived while we were in the Maze."
"But it hasn't been a month" The words leave my mouth before I know what's happening.
"We realize that, Lori. It's different this time though. This time, we got a girl Greenie."
I feel my heart slow, and my breathing becomes rapid. "Another girl?"
I raise my hands in frustration, "Great, just great. Now there's another girl, I'm 'the Deciever' or whatever, and Minho, Alby and Thomas aren't back yet"
"Stop talking bloody nonsense, Lori. Everything's going to be fine.
"But is it, Newt! If you're suddenly the one who's being optimistic, then I don't know how good everything's going to be."
"Lori-"
"How's the girl?"
Newt sighs and points to the Homestead, "She's in a coma of some sort according to the Med-Jacks, which by the way, you are still apart of"
I let a small smile reach my lips, "That comment wasn't completely neccessary."
"Alby told me, that when she arrived, she had a note saying that she was the last one ever. She also said that everything was going to change. Don't you see what that means?"
I shake my head, giving a confused glance.
"It means all this was leading up to this shank's arrival. She caused all of this, so whatever guilt you're feeling, don't.
"How did you know I was feeling guilt?"
"It's written all over your face. You may be apart of the changes, but she is the one behind this."
"And the tattoo?" I ask, pointing to my neck.
"We'll figure out what it means. I promise." Newt steps forward and holds out a hand, "Did you want to come wait at the West Door for them to get back?"
I nod and take hold of his hand, beginning a slow walk towards the Door.
///////////////
We stood talking out the front of the Door for at least ten minutes, before we heard something. Newt and I rotate to inspect the Doors, only to see Thomas and Minho come stumbling out.
Newt limped over to the boys, "What happened? How in the bloody-"
But before he could finish, Thomas cut him off, "We'll tell you later, we have to save Alby."
At this point, I was standing beside Newt, just in time to see his face turn a sickly shade of white. "What do you mean? He's alive?" I ask.
"Just come here" Thomas lead us into the Maze, a little to the right, before pointing up into the vines and ivy. As my gaze lifts, I notice a disfigurement among the plants. Alby.
"Is he ... alive?" Newt asks, completely shocked.
"I don't know. Was when I left him up there." Thomas replies simply.
"When you left him ..." Newt shakes his head. "You and Minho get your butts inside, get yourselves checked by the Med-jacks. You look bloody awful. I want the whole story when they're done and you're rested up."
The two boys run off and Newt ventures closer to Alby.
"Newt, wait"
"We'll finish talking later" He says as he moves further away. "Right now, I need to help my friend."
I nod my head, before turning and walking away.

Disclaimer: This is a slow burn story that integrates both Fantasy and somewhat sci-fi. The MC will be more of an anti-hero who will kill any and everyone that he pleases while still understanding the plight of a Villain. This is also family-centric with a dash of hidden identity, Yandere Romance, Blackmail, and a lot of character growth. === Why is life precious? Because you only have one. The answer is simple... as he damn wishes. “I-it’s not like I did it for you, you spinless Warrior.” “Good, the doors to your left, you may leave now.” He said to the tsundere Knight. PAH! “How dare you hit a woman?” “Who cares if you’re a woman? You slapped me when I just saved your life!” “You touched my chest!” “I said it was an accident, and again, I just saved your life — you know what? Fuck you, die here if you want to.” “Wait, wait, come back! Don’t leave me here! I’m sorry!” the princess screamed for help after being tossed to the side of the road. Theo did all this, yet to his dismay somehow, his reputation remained good in the eyes of many! A Hero, A Righteous Warrior, Benevolent King, Shadow Lord, Beast Keeper — such were the names given to him... To all of this, his reaction was always the same. “WHY!? How did they come to the conclusion that I’m a Hero?
