Door 376.

Ambrosia took two quick knocks on the apartment door.

A rustle could be heard from inside, but no answer.

Ambrosia glanced at Ivy who looked impatiently at her, Ivy gestured to knock again. It had been a good three days after the two sisters had gotten the news of their Aunt and her husband's stay in the manor.

With the fact that Ambrosia already understood her father was not on good terms with Tania and Tania had no rights given regarding the house.

Her stay was very odd.

"Maybe he's not her-" Ambrosia began but was cut short.

"State your business," a gruff voice called.

Suprised at how low the voice sounded Ambrosia stammered a reply.

"I-er...came to speak with Mr. Avril, for his services."

As soon as she had finished speaking the door clicked open and a very tall and broad man appeared. He didn't have a defined figure but the fat was so well distributed throughout his body it seemed to disguise as muscle.

Mr. Avril made no attempt to greet the two females and walked away from the door leaving it wide open; Ambrosia and Ivy took that strange sign to come in.

Ivy closed the door behind her and they stood awkwardly as we watched the giant of a man take a seat in a chair so tattered it looked as if it were going to break from his weight.

Ambrosia looked around and couldn't help but scrunch her nose in disgust. The place reeked of bad fish and beer. Both having the smell of piss.

Along with the smell the tiny living room they stood in, also connecting to a bedroom and small bathroom the size of a storage room, was a mess. Papers were thrown everywhere, and garbage was littered around as if it were some kind of decoration.

Ivy gagged slightly gaining a chuckle from the private investigator.

"Don't mind the smell."

The girls said nothing.

"Ahem-you is the one who called before, Amy yes?"

"Ambrosia," Ambrosia corrected with a forced smile.

"You ask for an investigation?"

"Yeah, we need you to investigate these four people," Ivy said quickly while pulling out a yellow file and handing it to the man. The man took it and skimmed through the pictures and records Ivy had so cautiously collected.

Mr. Avril scratched his face slowly and looked up with small sharp green eyes.

"This process may take a while..."

"We are willing to wait," Ivy said eagerly, Ambrosia could see the spark of excitement within her.

"And the pay, little miss?" The weasel-like investigator reached for a beer bottle on his messy coffee table and took a swig.

"I have $110, in cash," replied Ambrosia pulling out her purse.

"Double it."

"What?" the sisters said in unison.

"I only have $120 in cash, sir-"

"For my services, I require double..." Mr. Avril tossed the now empty beer bottle to the side and nodded.

"All you have to do is run a few background checks, what service is that!" Ambrosia exclaimed as the giant of a man got visibly angry.

Ivy tapped Ambrosia gently and whispered.

"Just give him what he want's so we can get out of here."

Greatly annoyed, Ambrosia reluctantly listened to her sister and ripped out a check for $240. Before stalking out Ambrosia pointed her finger at the man and with a sharp look in her eye, she spat.

"I expect tangible information!"

The two girls walked out of the apartment building taking in a deep breath of fresh air. Ambrosia sighed letting her feelings simmer.

"You're doing the right thing, Ambrosia," Ivy stated as they walked to the car. Ambrosia looked at her younger sister.

Was she?

When they arrived home the girls went their separate ways.

Ivy went up to go check on their father who was not feeling very well that morning and had stayed in bed, and Ambrosia went looking for Tania.

Surprisingly she found Mrs. Henway in the library room working.

"Hello Mrs. Henway, you're still here?" Ambrosia questioned trying to sound the least bit offending.

Mrs. Henway sat in a chair next to a window filling out some papers and the sound the Ambrosia's voice made her jump.

"Oh, Ambrosia, yes...Tania requested me to stay until I had finished all the house arrangements for your father," Mrs. Henway replied.

Ambrosia nodded unsatisfied with the answer and ran her eyes along the books lined up neatly on the shelves.

Mrs. Henway went back to her papers.

"Have you come looking for Elias?" her tone dropping suddenly.

"No."

Ambrosia then thought of the night of the party...and the incident between them. However, she was drunk and all of that was excusable...right?

Or did Ambrosia know exactly what she wanted that night, and was using the young man to distract her from all responsibilities?

Was he only another Dante?

"Well, he was looking for you, this morning," Mrs. Henway stated dully.

"Oh," was all Ambrosia could manage.

"He went to the doctor to get his hand checked out, where were you?"

Ambrosia bit the inside of her cheek, the nosiness from Mrs. Henway was quite surprising.

"Ivy and I went out for breakfast."

Mrs. Henway peeked at Ambrosia and smiled gently.

"That's nice."

Ambrosia smiled back and looked back to the books nervously picking a few.

"So it was that bad of an accident, Mrs. Henway?" she asked.

"What was dear?"

Ambrosia paused while picking up another book and watched Mrs. Henway from the corner of her eye.

She was watching her like a hawk.

"Elias' hand," Ambrosia said turning to her in a curious manner.

"Oh yes," Mrs. Henway said standing up and making a slow walk to Ambrosia.

"You are a very pretty girl, dear..." Each step was evenly placed and pointed right towards Ambrosia.

Ambrosia took a few choppy steps back as the woman approached her black orbs flickering.

"But don't entertain my son...he is...sensitive."

Then suddenly Mrs.Henway stopped and patted her black bun in thought before chuckling.

"But that's none of your business, you play your game and he will play his."

With those cryptic statements, Mrs. Henway removed herself from the room and left Ambrosia questioning her own motives in the grand scheme of things.
