《More Than You Realize》Final Chapter: How It All Ends

The burst of energy caused a gust of wind to come at us and attempt to knock us all down. Everyone stood their ground, but we had to shield our eyes so we could continue to see afterwards. I felt the hood of my onesie fly off of my head.
"This... isn't good..." I muttered as the burst of wind began to calm down finally. I moved my arms down from my eyes so I could see what was happening.
Krill's body had electricity emitting from his body, and his eyes were glowing a menacing red. He was twitching from the amount of energy in his body that was not compatible for him.
"Sabre! We have to get out of here now!" Jake called out as he tugged on my arm.
I looked back to my friends.
Ty was preparing himself to pick himself off of the ground for flight. Kylie was packing up some of her ingredients for her potions that had fallen from her bag during the energy burst. Jake was pleading for me to leave, and Void Steve was prepared to protect us from any oncoming attacks.
"Sabre?!" Jake exclaimed as he tried to pull me out.
"No..." I mumbled while jerking my arm away from Jake's grasp.
"SABRE! YOU WILL DIE IF YOU STAY HERE!" Jake exclaimed angrily. I looked back to him with a slight glare.
"And? Multitudes will die if we don't finish this. He has what he wanted; he's got all the power. Now, we got to stop him from continuing with this plan," I stated.
Jake looked at me like I had just committed some sort of crime.
"Are you a fool, Sabre?! If we leave now, we have a chance to stop him later. If we stay, we will die, and no one can be saved!" Jake exclaimed angrily. I looked over to everyone preparing themselves to protect and leave.
My took an interest to the ground as I thought about what Jake said. I smiled softly before looking back up to him.
"You're right," I said.
Jake smiled at my answer.
"If this doesn't work, you'll have a chance to stop him," I finished.
Jake flinched at my remark before realizing what I meant. He reached out to grab my arm, but I didn't allow it.
"SABRE!" he yelled as I forced him out the door along with everyone else. They all yelped in shock as I forced them out of the room.
I slammed the door shut before any of them could run back inside for me.
This was my fight. Mine, and mine alone.
No no no no no! Sabre, you idiot! Why in the world would he do such a thing!
Void Steve kept punching the door in hopes it would open. Kylie was hugging herself as Ty was rubbing her back gently, trying to calm her down.
I tried to use some of my magic to open up the door, but Sabre slammed it so hard that the mechanism broke.
The only way we could get back in would be if we were to break down the door. However, I don't think the door would be broken that easily.
Void Steve exclaimed as he rammed his body into the door.
"It probably won't unless we find a way to break it. I think he broke the mechanism to open and close it when he slammed it shut," I said, referring to Sabre.
"Why would he do this?" Kylie said as tears fell from her eyes. I sighed and shook my head.

"I honestly have no idea. I was trying to get him to get out, but then he said that if his plan didn't work, then we would have a chance to stop him," I explained before clutching my fist tightly.
"Wh-what does he mean by that?" Kylie stuttered as instant fear completely consumed her. I let out a sigh.
"I honestly don't know..." I replied a little nervously.
Void Steve said as he finally gave up on breaking down the door.
"I think we all do..." Ty mumbled as he took an interest in the ground.
We all stood in silence; no one really knew what to say. We were all too concerned for Sabre's safety to even strike a "normal" conversation, and my mind was racing with horrible thoughts.
The only thing that got everyone's attention was the sudden loud explosion coming from the room Sabre and Krill were in.
We all shouted in fear for Sabre's safety as we began to attack the door together. I tried to use my magic to open the door, but it was even more jammed than before.
A few tears streamed down my face as I struggled to open the door, which I never truly did.
Ty tapped my shoulder. I looked over to him as he gave me a saddened look. He, then, used his own magic to assist me in opening the jammed door.
Finally, the two of us were able force the door open. The sight in front of me sent me into a wave of shock.
Everything was destroyed. Sparks fell from flickering lights above, and every computer was staticky. Everything was charred and dull. It gave a bad vibe.
"N-no..." I muttered as I looked around the destroyed room. "SABRE!"
I called out to my brother, but I didn't get a response back. I felt tears continue to build up in my eyes.
'No! I can't lose him!' I thought as I ran around the room in search for Sabre.
More and more tears fell as I failed to find Sabre. Everyone else just watched in shock and fear as I rushed around the room.
"SABRE!" I called our once again as I looked around the room some more.
Some of the sparks fell on my shoulder, causing me to hiss in pain. However, I ignored the burning sensation and continued to look for Sabre.
"Jake..." Kylie muttered softly. I turned to face her with fear and tears in my eyes. She was looking at the only semi-working computer. "You need to look at this."
"What?! Is it Sabre!!" I asked hopefully.
"Kind of..." she mumbled as the other three headed over towards the computer. I ran over to view what was on the screen, only to stare in shock and fear.
"S-Sabre?" I mumbled as his figure showed lightly on the screen. There was a flashing play button. "It'd a recording," I said as I pressed the button to play the video.
"I'm assuming it's Jake, Void Steve, Ty, and Kylie watching this right now, and if it is... hey guys! I know this isn't exactly what you want to be watching right now, but I need to get somethings off of my chest. More than likely, almost definitely, I'm dead. Krill has completely lost his sanity, and there was no turning back. He grew too powerful for this world, and I knew the only way to take him out would be if he overloaded himself to the point his body couldn't contain his new power anymore. Anyways, you guys meant the world to me. You helped so much more than I ever acknowledged. Jake, keep being you. You're amazing, even corrupted. Kylie, discover new potions to help the world. You could find a cure for the most deadly disease. Tyler, you've changed so much in the time you've been with us. Appearance isn't everything, and you've proven that. Finally... Void Steve. We've been through a lot. From the time you were trying to kill me, to when you found out who I was and helped me. We've grown closer, and it was one of the best things I've had happen to me. Tell Alex and Mary what happened. I'll miss them, but I'll be in a better place, watching you guys carry out what we began. Thank you guys, for everything!" Sabre stated before a rumbling occurred in the background.

The recording ended there, and we all assumed that was just a few seconds before he died along with Krill. I didn't even realize the tears streaming down my face.
"Sabre..." I muttered as more tears filled my eyes. "SABRE!"
The four of us walked back to the village a bit from our house. Everyone was carrying along happily, unaware of the events that just happened.
Everyone saw us, and stopped what they were doing to greet us. The little kids laughed as they hugged all of us, and their parents were smiling widely.
However, people stopped smiling when they saw our saddened faces.
They began to question the expressions. I couldn't bring myself to state my brother was dead. The only one that could was Ty, and it took him a minute to get it out as well.
After some long sighed and choked sobs, Ty managed to deliver the news before continuing his sobbing.
The gasps depress throughout the village like a wildfire. Kids looks up to their parents, questioning what we were talking about. After they explained it on their terms, they were full of tears.
The elder of the village came out to see the commotion. The villagers were able to choke out the news better than we could, so we just let them.
His face fell in despair. He pierced his lips together before letting out a huge sigh.
"We shall have a memorial for our fallen hero..." he proclaimed before walking back off to his cabin. Everyone could tell he was upset.
We all stayed in the village for a few days in order to prepare this memorial for Sabre. I could feel the peaceful atmosphere from where the evil has been diminished.
The villagers had a special cemetery area for heroes. There weren't many graves there. But there was a huge cloth covering something in the middle of the small fenced off cemetery.
The elder stood in from the the clothes item, and motioned for the four of us to come up with him.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we gather today... for a sad occasion. Our savior, and friend, has fallen in the line of his duty. In order to save us all, he sacrificed his own life. This... is a day of remembrance for those who have sacrificed themselves for us. In honor of our lost savior, we dedicate this statue..." the elder spoke as he ripped the cover off of the item. It revealed a golden statue of Sabre with his elemental powers surrounding him. I felt tears come back to my eyes. "...in honor of him. These four were the closer to him, and have the honors of giving the eulogy."
The elder stepped down from his position and mixed in with the rest of the villagers. The four of us looked between each other while taking a few glances at the crowd before us. I let out a huge sigh.
"H-hello. You all know me as Sabre's brother, Jake Favre. I'll be quite honest, I haven't known Sabre that long on the level of being brothers. We didn't know we were brothers until recently. Before that, I was trying essentially kill him. But... after I stopped my past evil ways and following my brother in the light, I'm proud to say he was my brother," I said with a tear-filled smile.
Void Steve followed up.
"He saved my future. Because of him, I have a bright future ahead of me, which I couldn't have without his determination. He saw good in everyone he knew, and never gave up on that person until he knew there was no saving point," Kylie continued as she mixed up a quick potion. She nodded towards Ty, telling him to say what he wanted to say.
"Out of everyone here, I knew him for the shortest amount of time. However, like Kylie, he saved me from losing track of what was right. Sabre cared so much for everyone around, and even forgot he needed to tend to himself as well. I know everyone here will miss him... but he wouldn't want us to dwell over the events. His soul is here, I can feel it. Let's not disappoint Sabre," Ty finished up before nodding towards Kylie.
She nodded back before throwing her potion into the air. It exploded after a certain period of time. Beautiful fireworks erupted from the bottle, making everyone cheer in delight.
It should've been a time to mourn, but we celebrated the better place Sabre was in now, just like it should've been. Ty was right, Sabre wouldn't want us to mourn his death. No, I think we should view this as a new beginning.
Exactly how this should've been. Even though my time is up, my friends and brother are celebrating the defeat of Krill, and the new beginnings this would bring.
I kept my angel wings shielding my body as I watched everyone from a cloud above. I was smiling softly at the party below me.
"You're proud of them?" I heard my mother ask as she sat down next to me. I nodded my head.
"And you have every right to be," my father agreed as he sat on my other side.
"I always knew they were amazing," I said looking back down.
"They've always known how you felt," Rainbow Steve laughed as he jumped off the cloud and flew in front of my.
Galaxy Steve joined his side as they flapped their wings together to stay in the air. I smiled and laughed at the two friends of mine.
"There's a reason they're special. I always knew they were, and here's a reason why," I smiled happily.
My mother and father engulfed my frame in a hug as we all continued to watch everyone below us.
"As much as I'll miss talking with them, I know this is for the best," I said moving my wings around a little bit.
"Maybe it is," Galaxy Steve agreed as he and Rainbow Steve landed behind my mother, father, and me.
I know it is. This is the end. MY end. But it's only their beginning. I'll miss them... but it's time for their own adventure. And all I can say to them is...

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
