《More Than You Realize》Chapter 3: Hidden Power

"Mommy? Am I a freak?" I said looking at myself in the mirror. I had two different eye colors. My left eye was a bright yellow; that's already abnormal. My right eye was pure red. It would match the color of a crayon that was just red, no fancy names of the colors.
"Sabre, no you are not a freak. You never have been, and you never will be. You are just different from some other kids. Now, why would you ever think that?" my mom asked while sitting down next to me on the counter.
I looked at her, scanning for any signs that she was lying. She wasn't. She meant every word she just said.
"The other kids call me a freak..." I said looking back into the mirror.
Why can't I remember this? I don't remember this conversation.
"Sabre... ignore them. They are just jealous of who you are," she said rubbing my back.
What am I saying? And why am I so young again? HOW DID THIS HAPPEN!
a voice said out of nowhere. I was terrified. I've never heard this voice before in my life!
Void Steve?
Suddenly, the wall caved in. My mom gasped and immediately grabbed me up. I stared at the figures emerging from the hole in the wall.
Who's he with?
"Void Steve... Slade... you won't be getting Sabre!" my mom yelled. Me? Why do they want me?
Slade? He looks like the guy that tried to kidnap me earlier. WAIT, WHAT!
"Awe... you think you can protect Sabre? That's funny. Look, Sabre is going to be on our side, and help me rule the whole world!" Slade said, smirking ear to ear. Void Steve flinched and stared at Slade in disbelief.
Void Steve said, glaring at Slade.
"You're dumber than you look. You've just been a pawn in my game, Void Steve. Sabre will be mine. All of his power will be mine. You have NOTHING to do with what I plan to do for the world," Slade said.
He did some sort of magic and tossed Void Steve away. Okay, now my mind is about to explode from fear. Why do these strange guys want me? Please, don't let me go with them...
My mom took me away from the room. She had tears in her eyes as she put me down. He kneeled down and tug around in her pocket. She fished out a blindfold, and showed it to me.
"Sabre, sweetie. I need you to put this blindfold on, and NEVER take it off. For ANYONE! Sabre, don't rust anyone. You are so much more powerful than you realize. Please, honey, be safe. I love you dearly, and never forget that," my mom said tying the blindfold around my eyes.
"Wait, how can I still see out of this? What is this made of?" I asked looking around, still seeing plain as day. She smiled.
"A special material. One side, you can see through just fine, while the other is ordinary and solid," she said. Just then, another explosion occurred. Slade has busted through the other wall.

"Don't think you can hide Sabre forever. Believe me, he will be MINE!" Slade said.
"Run!" my mom said pushing me away. I was to scared to argue how much I didn't want to leave her. Instead, I just ran. I did as I was told and ran far away from this so called Slade person.
"You won't run forever! I'll find you, Sabre! You can count on it!" Slade yelled from the smoke. He rushed towards me, and me being so much younger, was easy to catch up to. "GOTCHA!"
"Ah! Let go!" I yelled as he rose my body into the air. I struggled and struggled, but was unable to get free from his grip. He laughed, making me whimper.
"You won't escape, Sabre," Slade said menacingly.
"How do you even know my name?!" I exclaimed struggling even more.
"I know a lot about you, Sabre. More than you even know about yourself," Slade said waving me around a bit. "Heheheh, let's go, Sabre."
To say I wasn't terrified, was a HUGE lie. My mind was going everywhere. I was only 5 at the time, so I was suppose to be able to cope with this terror.
"LET ME GO!" I yelled once again. He just laughed, not saying a single word. "DID YOU NOT HEAR ME! I SAID "
I burst of energy spread through my whole body. Suddenly, it felt like I was floating in midair. I looked around, AND I WAS! I WAS JUST FLOATING IN MIDAIR!
"What the-" I said looking around fearfully. Slade groaned from pain as he sat up. He laughed.
"Well, well, well. Looks like little Sabre has unlocked his powers," Slade said as he stood back up.
My eyes went wide in fear as he neared me. I began to back away, or float away? This is all too confusing at the moment.
"Look, man. Just stay away from me," I said holding my hand out, hoping to gain more distance between us. He just continued to get closer and closer. "BACK AWAY!"
He didn't say anything, making the moment even more intense. My mind was racing with multiple outcomes of the situation. I don't know what came over me, but I blew it.
"I said... GET AWAY!" I yelled before another burst of energy emitted from my body. Slade looked in fear, and covered his eyes so he wouldn't be blinded.
Everything hurt. My skin burned, my head was pounding, and I felt... weak... yet powerful.
Everything went black.
"WELCOME... TO ANOTHER DAY... AT DAAAAAAYCARE!" an unfamiliar voice yelled as I snapped to.
My eyes went wide. I was surrounded by kids my age. All the girls were hugging on me, and flirting with me.
Wait... do I still have my bandana on? I checked... thank goodness it was still there. I don't want anyone seeing my freak eyes.
Man, I want some cheese right now. I wonder if my mom can bring me some? I haven't seen her in a while though.

Last time I saw her...
...she told me I was of age to be independent. Kids my age left their parents, and had to live on their own. She gave me the bandana as a reminder of her.
Wait... what? NO! THAT'S NOT IT! Hold up... you mean, that blast altered my memories? I remember going to Daycare with Ryan, Tina, Shark, and all of them. My life... my reasons... all a lie!
No, I can't let Slade get to me... I can't lose myself, my sanity. I need to remain calm, and find a way to defeat Slade for good. He killed my mom; he tried to kidnap me for my power. He needs to pay.
Come on Sabre. Wake up. I can do this; just wake up and be with Rainbow Steve once again. WAKE UP!
"Sabre... Sabre... come on, Sabre. Wake up already!" I heard Rainbow Steve say with some fear. Man, I was in pain. Why is my head killing me?
"Mmmmmm..." I groaned as I felt my eyes begin to open. I heard Rainbow Steve jump for joy, and someone else take a sigh of relief. "Huh? Rainbow Steve? What happened?"
I sat up and began to rub my aching head. I was so confused right now. What even happened?
Memories stabbed me like a knife to the head. What Slade did, my mom, all the lies! All hit me, causing more pain to my head.
"SABRE!" I heard Galaxy Steve exclaimed. I flinched a little, from two things. One, GALAXY STEVE IS HERE! Two, ow... he yells really loud.
"Galaxy Steve? Can you not yell so loudly? My head hurts," I said closing my eyes. I could hear his breathing as he nodded quickly.
"Y-yeah, I'll stay quiet," he said quietly. Thank goodness.
"Hey, Sabre. Are you okay?" Rainbow Steve asked me. 'Do I be honest? Or do I just say it's all fine. Nice sleep. No... I can't lie to them. They can wad straight through me.'
"If I'm being brutally honest, no. My whole life has been one huge lie. I don't know what I'm capable of, but I do know that I have powers. I don't know why or how, but I've always thought my mom gave me this bandana as a reminder of her whenever we left our parents to be independent, but NO! She gave me this to hide my eyes... so people wouldn't know!" I yelled in frustration. I was losing it again. Calm down Sabre. Everything is going to be fine.
"Woah, calm down. Everything is okay. Just relax," Galaxy Steve said rubbing my shoulder. I nodded, and took in a deep breath. I let it out and continued with what I, now, knew.
"Slade and Void Steve worked together to kidnap me when I was about 5. They knew if my power and wanted me to help them end the universe. Void Steve and Slade has an argument once they were there, Slade saying Void Steve was just a pawn in the game he had planned. Slade... Slade... SLADE! THAT STUPID GUY MY MOM! I just... I just... I just... I just want to end him!" I yelled once again. I was trying to let all of my anger out, so, hopefully, I wouldn't have it later.
Silence filled the air. Neither Rainbow Steve or Galaxy Steve spoke, or even dared to breath. I didn't speak anymore, not really sure if I had anything else to say.
I told them what Slade did, and basically why he was after me. After another few minutes of silence, Rainbow Steve spoke up.
"S-Sabre? W-w-who is S-Slade?" Rainbow Steve stuttered out. I stared at him; asking myself if I really scared him that much just then.
"Slade... is the guy who just tried to kidnap me in the Void. The one that killed Purple Steve," I said trying to word that in the best way possible.
"If you don't mind, I would really like to know what happened in your past. You kinda just kept yelling it at us, and I couldn't quite catch it all," Galaxy Steve said, genuinely concerned for me. I nodded, not caring to fill them in.
It took a long time to explain every little thing, but I finally did. Galaxy and Rainbow Steve looked in shock. I just stared at the green grass as it swayed in the wind.
"Slade did... all of that?" Rainbow Steve said somewhat slowly. I just pressed my lips into a thin line, and nodded. I closed my eyes, not really wanting to see the cruel world at the moment.
"Where's my bandana? I need it," I said opening my eyes once again. I patted my onsie, seeing if I had placed it in one of the pockets.
Rainbow Steve and Galaxy Steve looked at each other, then back to me. 'No... they didn't.'
"Sabre... your bandana is kinda... well," Galaxy Steve said. I stood up and stared at them, hoping they weren't saying what I thought they were going to say.
"We kinda threw it away. Sabre... you really need to go without it," Rainbow Steve said. 'Oh no.'
"No... nonononononono! NO! You don't get why I had that! It wasn't just to hide my eyes... it was to keep Slade from finding me!" I exclaimed in a panic. They flinched, then hit themselves.
"WHAT! PLEASE SAY YOU'RE JOKING!" Galaxy Steve yelled. I shook my head.
"Oh God... we're going to die!" Rainbow Steve said. He brought his knees to his chest, and began to rock back and forth.
"No... we'll be fine. I'll make sure of that," I said as calmly as I could. To be honest, I was scared. Slade scared me, and that wasn't much of a secret. "Trust me... I'll protect you both."

The Humble Life of a Skill Trainer
For Joshua Still, Skills were the lifeblood of his business. He wanted to understand them, collect many of them, and teach a few of them. NEVER SPLIT THE PARTY: The Adventures of The Creeping Bam (BOOK ONE: The Job)
TAO is a broken world held together with nothing but magic and the will of the gods who protect it and its people. Then thousand years ago THE SUNDERING struck and Tao was almost torn apart by a terrible magical cataclysm which resulted in the planet almost being halted in its journey through the cosmos. It took all the power the gods of Tao could muster to restore its orbit and set it turning again, but in their efforts it was forever changed – its axis was drastically altered, and it now spins in such a way that one face of the world is forever turned from the sun it orbits, leaving half the planet in perpetual darkness. The various humanoid races that survived and now thrive within the habitable parts of THE DAY LANDS have come to live in perpetual fear of what lives beyond THE BORDERLANDS that separate them from whatever dwells within THE NIGHT LANDS, but for ten millennia it has kept its secrets. The land of RUNDAO languishes under the rule of their warlike Northern neighbours, the TEKTEHRAN EMPIRE, while a small, ragtag band of motley adventurers ply their mercenary trade fighting monsters and protecting the common man from the various dangers that haunt the night and prowl the hinterlands on the edges of civilization. THE CREEPING BAM have amassed a modest reputation in their years together, but they’re still just a small-time party of sellswords, thieves, outcasts and mages. They’re also exactly the kind of underdogs the people of Tao doesn’t yet realise are needed to save the world from the encroaching darkness they doesn’t even know is coming … This is a love letter and homage to the high-fantasy worlds of the tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and Warhammer and the sword & sorcery cinema and literature I fell in love with as a kid growing up in the 80s, from Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian (and the awesome Schwarzenegger movie, STILL my favourite fantasy film EVER), The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and Ron Howard and George Lucas’ Willow, to the more grown-up and edgy worlds of grimdark masters George RR Martin and (my all-time favourite) Joe Abercrombie, as well as a BIG DOLLOP of Terry Pratchett’s immortal Discworld series. IMPORTANT: This story contains material which some readers may consider to be mature, such as battle violence, some strong language and occasional mild sexual scenes. If this is not your kind of thing, this story is not for you. I am also serializing this story on Tumblr, Wattpad, Quotev and Sweek.
