Chapter ten ▪ The King's Queen

Enjoy (I hope) ♥

t was another memory I've had of father. This one was the happiest, but yet again the most terrifiying memory of my life.

It kept happening again and again. It was probably the only memory I've had with dad smiling.

But it always turned into that dreadful nightmare.

*

Dad was teaching me how to ice skate. I have always loved watching the lady from the old times dancing on TV. I remember that casette titled 'Tonya Harding- best performances'. I thought she looked a lot like my mom, with the blue eyes, blonde hair and her short height.

I was 10 at the time. He told me to go out on the lake, he was going to teach me how to skate.

I wanted to hug him, scream in happiness and do everything normal kids did, but I didn't. I knew that would get me a slap across the face.

I knew all the choreographies from the video by heart and I was determined to learn how to skate them.

I put on my thick fur jacket and went out in the freezing cold air. My nose instantly went numb and my toes seemed to freeze. I looked at my father coming from the old hut we had next to our house, carrying two pairs of skates, one smaller and the other a lot larger.

He threw the skates at me and told me to put them on. I knew these were Isaac's old skates, I recognised them from when he and dad learned how to fight with swords on ice.

He wouldn't let us go with being perfect with weapons on dry land, every time we became 'perfect' at something, he went that extra mile to make us feel like shit.

I quickly put them on, and put my boots on the side. I walked through the snow and stepped on the ice. I slipped a bit and stood straight up, hoping that dad didn't notice.

"We didn't even start and you're already failing? What a failure." He spat at me. I looked down in shame and apologised to him, not knowing for what. He called me to come further on the ice, and I listened immidiately. I slid towards him and listened to his instructions as I slowly slid along the smooth ice.

He yelled at me for a couple of times, but he seemed in a good mood.

That's when it happened.

He smiled.

He smiled. I couldn't believe it. I never knew why, but that's when the nightmare started.

A man with a pair of forest green eyes appeared next to him and snapped his neck, without any effort. I screamed as I watched the only devil of my life fall.

It was angels who are supposed to fall, not the devils.

I looked at the vampire and saw a familiar face staring at me.

The one I've always thought of as the angel. The one who was supposed to fall made the fates turn, and made the devil fall.

I skated to my father and sobbed over his dead body as I slumped in front of him and fell on my knees. I was glad that my brother didn't turn into a complete monster and made a masacre in front of me. He saved my innocence.

"Why are you crying over him? He never did any good! He killed all vampires just because he thought they were bad for being vampires! He taught us to kill, he was never a father, all he was to us was a teacher! A pshycotic killer! Don't cry over him, Dahlia!" He yelled.

"You are a monster, Isaac!" I yelled up at him. "A cold blooded monster!"

His face could never leave my memory. His hurt eyes that stopped raging with fury. They still looked like emeralds, but without the shine.

Dull. He was dull. I was broken. Dad was dead. Dad was dead. Mother was doing Lord knows what, but I knew that my life would change forever.

I would never be the same. None of us would.
