Chapter one

The summer ball

My morning started like any other morning. I was asleep until my mum came in. "Luna, wake up! Your friend Alexia is coming in a bit and you don't want to be late" she said as she marched in and threw open my curtains. I groaned in response, I was really not a morning person. Looking at my phone to see the time and my three younger brothers came in, Harry, Harvey and Henry.

"What the hell do you three want" I snapped.

"The girl with the silver car has just arrived" one of them said, to be honest it was too early to care which one it was.

Swearing I jumped out of bed, pulled on some black jeans and a black of the shoulder top. I dragged a brush through my long ginger hair, that went down to the base of my ribs, and pulled it into a high ponytail.

Looking in the mirror I saw my emerald green eyes looked tired, my pale face had light freckles that went across my noes and cheeks. I pulled my small pink lips into a slight grimace. I have been told I was pretty but I never thought so. Not wanting to waste more time I rushed down stairs to grab breakfast.

"Hey Lu, You had better hurry since school starts in a bit" Alex said smiling as I walked in.

"I'm coming, Bye mum, bye dad, bye little annoyances", with that we rushed out the house.

At the gates of our school, we met our other friends Danny, Charlie, Luke and Kate. Charlie smiled when he saw us and said "Danny and I think Luke should ask Peyton to the summer ball."

" Not if he wants his balls chopped off " chimed in Kate.

"It would be funny to see him quivering in front of Satan herself" said Danny with a laugh.

"I don't like her and I'm not asking her to the summer ball besides I'm going with someone else." Luke said in a matter of fact way.

At lunch that day I was listening to Alex complaining about some year 7 that talked in the library when she was studying and Jack came up to our table. One thing you should know about Jack is that he is gorgeous to be honest he also looked like a god of beauty and he is also a nice guy, at least to me.

"Hey um... Luna? Can I ask you something important?" He sounded nervous, which wasn't like him.

"Yeah sure" I said

"Would you go to the summer ball with me?" He rushed out.

I was so shocked I just looked at him, then in a small voice I said yes. He smiled nodded and walked away. The rest of the week past in a blur as my thoughts were consumed by the idea of going to the summer ball with the school hottie. After school on Friday, Alex drove all six of us to my place to get ready for the summer ball.

"Alexia, Katelyn, Daniel, Charles and Lucas, what a pleasure to see you all again" My mum said cheerfully as we walked into the house. My mum has this weird thing were she always says everyone's name and never used nicknames, like ever.

"Dinner is in an hour so be quick, especially you girls with your hair and makeup" So we all dashed upstairs to get ready. Kate was in a blood red maxi dress, Alex was in a silver cocktail dress and I was in a light blue floor length, satin ball gown with a halter neckline. All three boys were in traditional black tuxedos. We looked fantastic!

After dinner we arrived at the school, Jack was waiting by the school gate and when I got out the car, he looked at me and his eyes lit up. He held his arm out to me and said, "Shall we go in?" I nodded and slipped my arm around his and we walked inside the school.

The main hall was so beautiful, a thin layer of mist danced around our ankles and fairy lights were strung up everywhere. "Would you like to dance with me?" Jack said as he turned to me.

" Yes, I would love to" I replied, he took me to the dance floor and bowed low like I was a princess, then pulled me into a slow dance. We danced and danced until I was very dizzy and asked if we could get a few drinks, he agreed took me to my friends and left to get drinks.

"Your head over heels for him" Luke said cutting into my train of thought about how hot Jack was and how desperate I want to be his girlfriend.

"I am not, your just jealous of how hot he is"

"Don't lie to us, your completely in love" said Danny and the he and Luke proceeded to tease me until I went to find Jack to get my drink. I found him. I found him..... In the arms of Peyton! What a complete witch!

I was so shocked I just stood there staring, as she missed his face off. Suddenly they both saw me and Jacks face went from surprise to guilt, but Peyton was just so smug I wanted to punch her in her too white and too shiny teeth.

"Don't stand there gaping like a fish, did you really think this wouldn't happen?" Sneered Peyton.

Then I did what any heart broken teen girl would do. I ran for it. Out the nearest exit, which unfortunately was nowhere near my friends so they didn't see me leave. As soon as I was outside I waited, hoping Jack would come after me and say it was all Peyton's fault and he had nothing to do with it, and then all would be well, right? If not, then.....I didn't want to finish that thought.

Through tears I saw a strange blue floating light a few meters away from me and then another popped up a few meters from that. I got the strangest feeling, a pulling sensation, so in my vulnerable state I followed them like I was in some sort of trance.

After what felt like hours of walking, I can across some woods, the little blue lights kept going into the woods, so I obviously had no choice but to follow them. The next time I was aware of what was happening, I was standing in front of a small cave entrance, the moon was directly above me casting a strange almost magical flow across the cave entrance. The tugging was so strong I thought it might rip out my organs. There was a shimmery wall in the cave. It was so intriguing, I did the most stupid thing. I walked through the wall.
