《Just Business?》First Day

Today is my first day of work that I have to do everything on my own. I was pretty nervous, but I have confidence that James taught me everything I could possibly know. I was answering calls about Mr. Wright's schedule. I was watching the clock, and saw 1:45. I got up, and walked over to the coffee machine. I got a cup, and two sugars. While the coffee was brewing, I thought about what to say. Should I ask how his day was going? He probably doesn't care. Should I just say here's your coffee? That would be stating the obvious. Maybe I just shouldn't say anything.

I was standing there for a good 10 minutes before I heard the ding of the coffee. I mixed in the sugar, and ran to Mr. Wright's office. I knocked on the door, and he told me to come in.

"Here's your coffee, sir."

"Thank you, Olivia. Did you schedule my meeting with Mr. Smith?"

"Yes. In an hour."

"In an hour? There's no way I'll be ready in an hour!"

"So what do you want me to do?"

"Call him back and reschedule. For someone who got a degree in business, you aren't the brightest."

"Excuse me?"

"Are you hard of hearing too? Go."

I walked out, and sat at my desk. I picked up the phone and called Mr. Smith. How dare he talk to me like that?

"Mr. Smith, it's Olivia, Mr. Wright's PA. We spoke earlier about your meeting with him being in one hour. I'm so sorry, but it's my first day and I messed up. Could you meet with him tomorrow?"

"Oh it's no trouble, dear. I can meet with him tomorrow. No big deal, so don't get too worked up over it. I hope your first day gets better."

"Thank you, Mr. Smith. Again, so sorry for the inconvenience."

At least Mr. Smith was nice. Grant it, he's 83 and not as in demand as Mr. Wright is. That's still no excuse. I waited for sic o'clock and hoped that he'd calm down from now till then. I know he could see me, so I tried to be on my best behavior and not flip him off. At 5:45, I got up and went to the coffee machine. I put in the two sugars, and slowly made my way to Mr. Wright's office. I walked over and set the coffee down on his desk.

"Here you go, sir."

"Olivia, wait."

"What is it, sir?"

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have yelled at you like that."

"It's okay, sir."

"No it's not. It was completely unprofessional."

"Well I appreciate the apology."

I walked out, and sat back at the desk. I dropped my pen, and I could just tell that this day was not going well for me. As I bent down to grab it, I saw all the girls glaring at me. I had no idea what their problem was, but I honestly couldn't care less.

I felt just awful for yelling at Olivia the way that I did. I know she didn't deserve that. It's her first day, and I should've cut her some slack. She does make an excellent cup of coffee though. I sat in my office, and saw Olivia at her desk. She's absolutely gorgeous. It would be unprofessional for anything to occur between us, but I don't really care. I've never really been attracted to any of my previous female assistants who threw themselves at me, but she's different. I can't help but stare at her.

"Olivia, wait."

"What is it, sir?"

I would tell her to call me Aiden, but again it's not professional. Although, I do like it when she calls me sir.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have yelled at you like that."

"It's okay, sir."

Her face was to floor, and she seemed very shy and quiet. I wanted her to look up, so she could see that I meant what I said. Then again, maybe it would be best if I didn't look at her. After we were done talking, she walked out. Her pen fell to the floor, and she bent down to pick it up. All the other girls glared at her, and I almost missed their faces because I was focused on Olivia. She sat down in her chair, and tried to focus on work instead of the girls. I would make sure that Bill has a talk with the girls to assure that this doesn't happen again. It's unprofessional and doesn't reflect how employees should conduct themselves at Wright Inc.
