《Calamity Falls》Chapter 22

"I'm not sure if this is a good idea. Don't you remember what the doctor said. What if something did happen to her? I'm scared Sean" I blabbered as my feet constantly bounced in fear and anxiety
Getting in front of Riele's room, a bit of hesitation coursed through my body as I brought up my fist to hit the door. I breathed out 'It's all for the best; I hope' I thought before connecting my fist with the honey brown coloured mahogany door matching with those across the hall.
Stifling a snort, I parted my lips to speak "I'm sorry to disturb your sleep but your attention is needed downstairs Ms. Downs" I spoke in a monotonous voice like one of those fancy bodyguards with stoic faces
Riele sat on the couch I had sat on earlier while I took the space on the couch next to her. "So why are you guys here?" she asked making butterflies of anxiety do a parade in my gut
"Can't we just visit a friend with no absolute reason?" Jade joked as I shook my head in amusement as she tried to hide the main reason to why they were actually here but the look she got from Riele told her she didn't buy it as well
"That but there is another reason" Sean added all of a sudden making me sit straight and glare at him but he disregarded it giving me a look that said 'It's now or never buddy' or at least that's what I thought the look meant.
"Well, just last week, the police station where we reported to, you know about Mary's sudden disappearance, got a message from an unknown number" he paused before continuing and I throughout my eyes were trained on Riele watching her every reaction

I sighed "I have to do it. For Jace" I sat in my office chair, swirling around as I thought back to what Samuel said. I never did forget what he said but if what he said is what I should do, then I'll do it, no matter what
The telephone next to me rang breaking me from my train of thoughts. Picking it up, I brought it close to my ear before speaking "Hello" I said, hearing a response from the other side
"Someone is here to see you. He goes by the name Samuel" the familiar voice of Shelby rang in my ears but what got me confused is why Samuel was here and how he knew that this was where I work
"Let him in" I responded after several seconds of silence.
"Alright" and with that, I hung up. Playing with the pen between my fingers, Samuel's voice echoed across the walls of the room
"Hey Samuel. How are you?" I gestured for him to take a sit to which he obliged. Immediately he sat, he began to speak
"I'm really sorry Riele. I've been feeling guilty ever since the incident at the hospital. I shouldn't have told you such an information at your most vulnerable state. I was being selfish and I am so sorry. You don't seem to realise how sorry I am" he surprised me as tears began seeping out of his closed eyelids making me open my mouth wide in shock
"I-" I opened my mouth but didn't know how to reply to his sudden outburst.
"You can lock me in jail, I don't care all I care about right now is your forgiveness Riele. The guilt is eating me up and I'm afraid that I can't do it anymore. I just had to tell you or he was going to kill me and grandpa too. I just had to, I am so sorry" he blabbered

He? Who was the he he is talking about? I furrowed my brows before gathering up words in my head "It's ok Samuel. You're forgiven just stop crying please" I said even though I wanted to ask about this unknown personality but I refrained seeing as he needed me more than I needed this piece of information
"Really?" he looked at me with tear stained cheeks and red eyes making me nod as a small smile crept unto my face. "Thank you so so much" he sent a bright smile my way.
I smiled watching as she screamed in pain, just the way I liked it. "Please stop. I am begging you" her cry of pleads fell deaf to my ears
"I had given you enough time. All I told you was to do one thing but you failed. Just like last time. I don't think I've told you this but I don't like repeating myself more than twice" I gritted my teeth in anger before bringing up the already bloody knife, slicing off the middle finger of her left hand.
Yet again, her scream bounced off the walls of the hot and steamy room which contained of nothing but a table, chair and a light bulb at the centre of the room. I clicked my tongue on my teeth looking at her bloody mess sprawled on the floor "Come on Melody, you're stronger than this" I mocked the exact words her step mother says to her after each punishment
Her eyes bulge open "How... How did-" I cut her off with my frightening laughter
"Oh you think I didn't do a little research on you. Just to make sure that if you didn't accomplish your mission your family members will pay the price but it seems like you will pay the price for your foolishness after all" I smiled admiring the knife in my hands
Tears spilled from her eyes "You're a monster" she whispered making me roll my eyes
"That's too common. Tell me something I don't already know honey" I stood up only to kick her straight in her jaw, hearing a satisfying crack of her bone. I left the room leaving her to bleed to death if possible.
Walking over to the nearest sink, I washed off my blood covered hand before disposing the knife. Grabbing a hand towel, I cleaned my hands before walking over to Mary's room. Getting in, I found her and her sitter talking excitedly over something making me smile at how well my grand daughter got along with everyone here, well all except me
"Get dressed. You're going out" I said suddenly, making my presence known to the two female genders in the room.
"Why?" Mary asked narrowing her eyes at me but I didn't miss the happiness hidden behind her eyes, as usual, I say nothing. Nodding at the sitter in understanding, I walked out of the room and luckily spotted Jayden.
"How's Ella?" he asked to which I nodded
"She's quite alright and is doing her job well. Remind me to add a few thousands to her pay" I said watching as he nodded before I walked off to my room
Very short... Sorry

"I get the feeling this story might be one of those 'diamonds in the rough'. The premise is quite solid, there's plenty of room to flesh out the characters. It's quite easy to get into and be engaged by at the moment, imo. I don't know where the story will go from here, but it's off to a good start me thinks." - Xenower Attribution: The cave picture in the book cover is made by Stanislav Sedov and is licensed under CC-BY-SA-2.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/ This picture was modified from the original with an overlaid moon and sea picture to be found at https://www.flickr.com/photos/ssedov/26342569905 The photographer has no affiliation to Tschallacka nor can be held accountable for the use of this picture the way as it is here.
