《Shadows {Book one in the Coriana Johnson series}》Confusion and Disaster

I had taken Malick to the Zypher, of which Daisy and Joey were taking control of.
I went back for Lincoln, and finally got him to wake up. We made our way back to the Zypher, but only Joey was there.
"Where's Daisy?" I asked him.
"She went to get the team," Joey said.
I looked at Lincoln.
He nodded.
"Go," he told me.
I nodded and ran into the Zypher. I made my way through the hallways, trying to find them. Finally I ran into Daisy and Yo-Yo, leading the rest of the team.
I ran to Mack, who wrapped me in a bear hug. He chuckled.
"It's good to see you too, Shady," he said.
I smiled. For once I would let the awful nickname slide.
I looked past him at the rest of the team, and gasped.
Most of them were alright, but May was badly injured.
"May!" I exclaimed and ran over to her.
"I'm fine," she grunted.
I raised an eyebrow.
"Obviously not."
"Come on. Let's get moving," Daisy said before May could respond.
"Wait, shouldn't May get medical attention?" I asked.
"I'm the only one who can fly this," she replied.
I shrugged, not wanting to argue.
"Then let's go."
Daisy, Joey, Lincoln and I laughed as Yo-Yo was telling us about what had happened.
"Elevator door open," She said. "He comes out." She motioned to Joey.
"Bullets. Boom, boom, boom! And soldiers ... 'Aaah!'" She imitated their expressions in an exaggerated way. I laughed again.
"This man!" She finished, motioning to Joey again.
"Hey, I stopped the bullets, but you dropped 'em down," Joey said.
"No, you guys all did so good. We were asked for a miracle, and we came through. You're a hell of a team," Daisy said.
"You should have seen Cori," Lincoln said. "She can really kick butt."
I laughed.
"Thanks," I said. "And by the way, Lincoln, I forgot to tell you something."
"What?"
"You're really heavy."
The five of us burst out laughing.
"You know, you went down twice in one day," Daisy said to Lincoln. "Maybe I should kick you off the team and find someone more useful."
We all laughed again.
"You ok?" Daisy asked Yo-Yo as we noticed a small wound on he leg.
"Oh! I didn't feel it. You run fast, things happen, huh?" She replied.
"Yeah. You sure you're all right?" Daisy asked again.
"Yeah."
"Hey. Thanks for having my back when I went down," Lincoln said to Joey. "You saved me. Daisy's right. It was a good day."
"No, when you grab the head of Hydra, it's a great day," Daisy said.
"You think he'll give us anything?" Joey asked.
"Well, Coulson's questioning him now. Soon, you'll get cleared to go home, but if he talks, we might be on another mission," Daisy said with excitement in her voice.
I noticed that Joey didn't seem too excited about the idea.
Daisy and Lincoln seemed to be busy, so I decided to go see what Fitzsimmons were doing.

I walked into the lab, and saw that they were studying a dead body. The dead body, I was pretty sure, was that of Lucio, an inhuman who Joey had killed on the mission.
"You're the doctor. Is he dead or not?" Fitz asked Simmons. "His body temperature is 98 degrees."
"What? The dead guy isn't entirely dead?" I asked.
"Cori! Hi! We were just examining Lucio's body," Simmons explained.
"I can see that."
"So he's dead-ish! There's some sort of metabolic activity. Fascinating," She said, talking to Fitz this time.
I walked over and leaned against a table.
"No, not fascinating. Quarantine," Fitz said.
"Well, it is kind of fascinating," I interjected.
Simmons sighed and nodded to Fitz.
"Quarantine," she repeated.
She zipped up the body bag and they began to roll the body out of the lab.
Fitz looked over his shoulder at me.
"Sorry, Cori, but we're a little busy right now. We'll talk to you later," He said and then continued to roll it away.
I sighed and decided to check on May.
I knocked on the door to the medical area, looking through the glass and seeing that Lincoln was also in there.
He motioned for me to come in.
I walked in and sat down on a chair by May's bed.
"How's my S.O. doing?" I asked.
"I'm fine," She replied.
"She got a few bad wounds, but she'll heal," Lincoln told me.
"I'll be back," he continued and walked out.
I sighed and leaned my head on one of my hands.
"Cori?" May said suddenly.
"What?"
"You did good today."
I smiled, surprised that May had complimented me.
"Thanks." I stood up. "So...do you need anything?"
She sighed with frustration.
"What I need is to be able to get up and get back to work."
I grinned.
"Well, I don't have magical healing powers, so you're out of luck. I see you later," I said and walked out.
I started aimlessly walking down the hall when I ran into Daisy.
"Where you going?" I asked her.
"I was going to Coulson's office. The base is on lockdown, so I wanted to see why," She responded.
I nodded.
"Ok. Just let me know if it's anything important."
"You can come with me."
I shrugged my shoulders.
"Nah. I'm kind of tired."
"Ok. I'll talk to you later then," She said and continued walking down the hallway.
I sighed and went into my room.
It had been a long day, so I laid on my bed and fell asleep.
I'm not sure what woke me up. It night have been the yelling, or maybe the explosion.
I jumped out of bed and ran outside my room.
I didn't see anyone immediately, so I ran down the hallway trying to find someone.
"Daisy! Lincoln!" I yelled.
Suddenly I spotted them and ran towards them. Then I realized they were surrounded by SHIELD agents.
"Coulson?" I said, spotting him.
"What's going on?"
He didn't answer immediately, but some of the SHIELD agents surrounding Daisy and Lincoln started to turn around, towards me.

My eyes grew wide.
They wouldn't betray us, would they?
Daisy and Lincoln suddenly ran past the agents into a room which was right next to them.
All of the agents were momentarily distracted, so I used that to follow Daisy and Lincoln into the room.
Joey and Yo-Yo were already in there, and once we were inside Joey melted the door handles to help seal the doors.
"What is going on!" I exclaimed.
"Where have you been?" Daisy asked Joey.
"If we don't get these doors blocked, nobody's questions get answered!" Lincoln said.
"Got it!" Yo-Yo said and helped block the doors.
"Okay. Someone explain what's going on," Joey said when she was finished.
"Malick's dead. They suspect us," Lincoln explained.
"What!" I exclaimed.
"Why would they think that?" Joey asked.
"They think Hive infected one of us while we were in that base," Daisy said.
"Hive?" I asked.
"The thing in Ward's body," Daisy said.
"Messed with our heads," Lincoln said, sighing.
"Where were you?" Daisy asked Joey again.
"What?" He replied.
"Where were you, Joey?" She repeated, exasperated.
"The base went dark. I was looking for you," He said. "Infected?"
"That glass not gonna keep them out," Yo-Yo said.
"Yeah," I said, agreeing.
"How do we fix this?" Lincoln asked.
"We stay calm, and we stick together," Daisy said.
"Why are they sure it's one of us?" Joey asked.
"Malick...whatever he said to Coulson has him spooked," Daisy informed us.
"But he could be wrong. I mean, they're taking his word for it?" Joey said.
I nodded.
"Do they even have any proof?" I asked.
Yo-Yo said something in Spanish, but the only one who could understand her was Joey.
"What?" Lincoln, Daisy and I said at the same time.
"Screw SHIELD!" she exclaimed.
I sighed.
"Guys! Can't we all talk about this! We need to figure this out!" I said.
"Jiaying was terrified of Hive returning. Now I can see why. You know Fitz-Simmons quarantined Lucio's body?" Lincoln asked.
I nodded, but everyone else shook their head.
"I was in the lab with them. Apparently, he's dead, but his body temperature is 98 degrees," I explained.
"Why didn't they tell us sooner?" Joey asked.
"If that's true, this is exactly why Coulson didn't say anything. Anybody has-" Daisy began.
"And if that is true, I don't want you telling me what to think....any of you. We were all alone in that base. Any of you could be infected," Joey said.
"Any one of us. That includes you," Lincoln told him.
He turned to Yo-Yo.
"I saw it, Yo-Yo. That's not a bullet wound. How'd you get it?"
"I fight 10 people. Accident," she said.
She turned to Joey and they began to speak Spanish.
"What are you saying? Could you please speak English right now?" Daisy asked and I nodded in agreement.
Yo-Yo shot back a reply in Spanish and I sighed, wondering what she said.
"Hey, look. It's not important, okay?" Joey began. "I don't care which one of you did this. I just want to leave, one way or another."
"Are you saying you'll fight S.H.I.E.L.D. to get out of here? Because that means me, too," Daisy said.
"And me!" I said.
"They're about to break in. I am not going back into isolation," Joey said.
"Why not? Alone all day, no?" Yo-Yo said, and I nodded in agreement.
"She has a good point," I said.
"I just needed some time, okay?" Joey said.
"Joey, you were completely AWOL when Malick was killed. That's not okay," Daisy told him.
"I don't care about Malick ! You were the one gunning for him, and now he's dead. That's not on me," Joey replied.
I stepped forward, ready to defend my sister. She put a hand on my shoulder.
"Gunning for intel, not to kill him. He's the head of Hydra," Daisy said.
"But it's a fair point," Lincoln interjected.
Both Daisy and I whirled around.
"Excuse me? I wanted to get to Malick to finish off Ward or...or Hive or whatever. Friends died. You know that," Daisy said.
"Where were you when the lights went out?" Lincoln asked me.
"Wait, so you're accusing me now?" I asked.
"Well, lights going off is kind of your thing," He replied.
I glared at him.
"I was asleep. I had no idea what was going on."
He sighed.
"Where were you Daisy?" He asked her.
"I was in my room where I told you to meet me," She said. "Where were you, sparky, during the electrical failure?...Sorry. We're supposed to be a team.
"This team is sick," Yo-Yo said, and honestly, I had to agree.
"How do we know whoever turned can't infect the rest?" Joey asked.
"There's no evidence of that," Lincoln said.
"I just want out, with or without your help..." Joey said and tried to get past us.
"Hey!" I yelled
"Suddenly, you're willing to fight your way out?" Lincoln asked him.
"Me, too. I don't trust anyone," Yo-Yo said.
"No one leaves," Lincoln said.
"We need to get out of here," Joey said and tried to push past Lincoln again, who pushed him back.
"Hey! He's right!" Daisy said suddenly. "He's right. We should get somewhere safe...figure this out on our own terms."
"What? We can't leave and let an infected person escape!" Lincoln exclaimed.
I stayed silent, not sure what to do.
"It's better than someone in here or out there getting killed...Okay. Coulson has a hidden elevator. It used to be an old underground exit. Maybe I can break through to get out. It's the only way we all live today," Daisy said.
"Ok. Let's go," Joey said.
I sighed, hoping we were making the right decision.
