《Call Of Death》Chapter 26 : Everywhere

Officer Chad woke up first in the morning. He massage his head because he's having a terrible headache due to hangover. Then he opened his eyes, taking a deep breath before sitting up. He furrowed his eyebrows when he realized he wasn't wearing the shirt he remembered wearing yesterday. He couldn't even recall if he had taken a shower before going to bed. He then sighed and brushed his hair with his fingers. He turned to Detective Lee's bed. He furrowed his brows when he saw him still sleeping.
"He usually woke up first before me all the time. What happened to this morning guy?" He shrugged as he got up. "Must be tired." He just mumbled.
Devius then walked to the kitchen to get some water and as he was drinking, he saw the basin and towel on the sink, Cameron must have forgotten to return it last night. Devius walked towards it with confusion. He lifted up the wet towel and glanced at Cameron's place.
"Did he wash me up last night?" He asked himself, looking back at his shirt and to the basin. "Seemed like you care for me after all."
Officer Chad smiled and continued drinking before cleaning the basin and hanging the towel. He then prepared to start cooking. He wasn't as good as a cook like Cameron but he describes himself as someone who knows how to cook. He first fried the rice, mixing some beans, carrots and eggs in it. He usually cook fried rice for his sister when she comes over to his previous place. Their parents aren't usually with them, that's why Devius often acts as Daena's parents.
After preparing the rice, he moved on to making omelette and frying some hotdogs. He also made some coffee and placed everything on the small table. He looked at his masterpiece with a smile before going to Detective Lee's bed.
"Hey, senior, wake up. Breakfast's ready." He said but it didn't woke the man up. Devius then kneeled down and shook his shoulder. "Detective Lee, wake up now, we're gonna be late. You hate being late, don't you?"
Detective Lee still didn't woke up but only turned his face a bit. That's why some hair fell to his forehead, covering his brows and eyes. Officer Chad smiled because he thought someone like Cameron would easily wake up with a little noise. He looked at the strands of hair on his face. He reach his hand to it, attempting to shove it away. Devius moved his face forward, too focus on the hair strands, unaware of how near their distance was. That's when Detective Lee woke up and slowly opened his eyes only to met Officer Chad's face just inches away from him.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!?" Detective Lee quickly bulged away from the man making him fall off the bed.
"Woah. Easy, senior, I'm just waking you up." Officer Chad explained.
"Waking me up? Do you have to be that near just to wake me up? You're about to kiss me, Chad." He said in an annoyed voice but deep inside, Cameron's heart was racing like hell.
"Sorry, senior. I already prepared breakfast to thank you for taking care of me last night." Officer Chad smiled and stood up, walking to the kitchen.
Detective Lee followed him with his eyes, furrowing his brows. He took a deep breath before walking towards the kitchen. His mouth hanged open and his eyes grew wide when he saw all the foods on the table.
"Are you planning to hold a damn feast? Why did you cook so much?" He asked.
Officer Chad stared at the foods he prepared. He really overdid it. He only prepared omelette, fried rice and hot dog but he made a lot. He then turned to the Detective Lee with an awkward smile.
"I just got excited because I'm making us a breakfast. Also, I got used to cooking this much because my sister is a big eater." He reasoned.
"Tss! Nevermind, let's just eat and decide what to do with the leftovers later." Cameron uttered and sat on the chair.
To be honest, it's really fine for him that Officer Chad cooked a little much because they could still take it and eat them at work. He just doesn't know what else to say because it's tye first time that something had ever cooked for him since his adopted father went missing. The two men begun eating while Devius was waiting for his reaction. Detective Lee noticed the guy staring at him so he raised one of his eyebrows, as if asking Devius what does he want.
"What?"
The latter smiled and asked, "Does it taste good?"
"It taste like hotdog, egg and fried rice. It doesn't taste special at all. It's not well cooked too." The other boldly answered.
"Oh." Devius just pursed out his lips and begun eating.

'Was I so rude?' There's a bit of regret inside Cameron but he didn't say anything.
Both soon finished eating. They prepared to go and as they were on the car, Devius can't help but smile as he remembers how Detective Lee said the food doesn't taste that good but he ate quite a lot. Cameron started driving and when he noticed his partner grinning from ear to ear, he glanced at him with a confused look.
"Why are you smiling like a dog?" He asked in an annoyed voice.
"Nothing." Officer Chad simply said and continued smiling until they get to the headquarters.
When they walked inside, everyone greeted them and as always, only Devius greeted their colleagues back. Both men went to the Chief's office and saw her reading some files again. Probably about the Killer Caller case. She smiled when she saw them.
"Good morning, Chief Simon." They both saluted.
She saluted back and offered them some chair. "Sit down, please."
"Chief, about the case, there's still no lead about the culprit but I have a feeling that he was just around watching us." Detective Lee started, Chief Simon nodded in agreement.
"And he could be someone we once or have been talking to." Chief Simon added.
Cameron and Devius looked at each other then turned to their superior. "What do you mean, Chief?" Detective Lee asked.
"I have a feeling that he could be someone we once encountered. He's everywhere." She said.
On the other hand, Police Officer Isaac Chase was near the detective headquarters so he decided to pay his friend a visit since they haven't talked much since the investigation started. In front of the headquarters, under a tree, a guy wearing a black hoodie gave out a devilish grin as he listened to the three authorities talking. He knew he was about to get caught. His preys already have some suspicions that he was spying on them. But he wasn't scared because he knows he'll get his way to his plans. He then started to walk away but he bumped into someone which cause him to fall on the ground. When he looked up, it's the policeman.
"Hey, you shouldn't be here." The policeman said, helping him up.
"Sorry, Officer Chase, I was just bored and I went to get some fresh air." His devilish grin turned into an angel-like smile.
"I know you didn't came here just to get some fresh air. It's a bit far from where you should be staying." Officer Chase told him. His smile faded away, thinking that he was caught by the police officer but then all his worries faded away when Isaac spoke. "If you wanted to see Detective Lee and Wayne, you should have just went straight inside the headquarters."
"I'm sorry, officer." He lowered his head.
"That's fine, you don't have to apologise. But always be careful. The culprit is still out there, I'll get someone to take you back home." Officer Chase led him to the car and told the driver to take him home.
As the car was slowly moving away from the headquarters, the guy's devilish grin showed again. He gave out a chuckle before resting his head on the car sit.
"Yeah, I will be careful from myself." He whispered with a chuckle.
Back to the headquarters, after the meeting was done, both Officer Chad and Detective Lee went out of the office. They are both thinking about their superior's words that the culprit could have been talking to them or once talked to them and the possibility that the culprit is everywhere.

The Ancient Tree's Journey
On a planet far away from Earth, an ancient tree lives inside a beautiful forest. When the tree realises that its life is coming to an end, it creates a seed without a soul. The seed begins a long journey, being passed from person to person, until it finally collides with the soul of a girl from Earth and sprouts. With her human knowledge, the girl tries to survive in this world... as a tree. Note: This is my first time writing a novel, so my writing style might be a little rough around the edges sometimes, especially the first twelve are still amateur style. I'll probably rewrite them at some point... later perhaps. Also, the MC will be introduced in chapter 13. The first twelve chapters are more of an introduction to the world, so they bear little significance to the main story. Still, I recommend reading it if you want to get a better view of the world. Chapter releases once every four days.
