《Call Of Death》Chapter 25 : Feeling Weird

After coming to his senses and everything sunk in to his realization, Cameron quickly stood up and was about to scold Devius but before he could even say a word, Officer Chad fell down and fell asleep. He stood there with his mouth open, staring at Devius who was so comfortable on the ground.
"What the hell?" He couldn't believe what just happened.
He sighed and shook his head. He carried his partner to the car and fixed his seatbelt before driving back to his apartment. While on the way, he kept glancing at Devius who was deep in his sleep. It's already almost midnight so there were a little number of cars on the highway. When he parked the car, he turned to Officer Chad. He wanted to wake him up but suddenly found himself staring at the man who's sleeping peacefully. A moment later, he felt something weird inside his chest. It's his heart, beating faster as his eyes dropped to Devius' lips. He recalled everything that happened earlier. The accidental kiss. His soft, sweet lips on his—
"What the hell am I thinking!?" Cameron quickly shifted his gaze in front.
"Hmm? We're home already?" Devius asked when he woke up, scratching his eyes.
"Hmm." Cameron just nodded without looking at him.
Officer Chad is still feeling really dizzy as he had been drinking for quite long the whole day. He then got out of the car and wobbled inside the building. Detective Lee quickly got out too and followed his partner, assisting him to control his balance so he won't fall down the stairs. When they finally reach to their floor, they both stop at the door and turned to the room where Michael and his mom used to live. Cameron saw the sadness and worry in Devius' eyes when he looked at that direction.
"Michael's mother..." Officer Chad mumbled with his drunk voice. "...do you think we'll be able to find her? Can we save her, senior? Will we ever be able to catch the culprit?" He asked sounding a little down and helpless.
Cameron patted his partner's shoulder. "We will and we'll send that bastard to jail. No matter what happens, we will save everyone we can and give justice to ones who's lives he had taken." Detective Lee answered with determination.
Devius stood up straight and turned to Detective Lee. He stared straight to him making the latter uncomfortable. Cameron swallowed and looked to the opposite side, avoiding the officer's eyes.
"Can I asked you something, Cameron hyung?" Detective Lee furrowed his eyebrows and faced Devius because of how he addresses him. "Can we be friends?"

"What?" Cameron asked in confusion.
"We've been working together since the past weeks. Can we be friends?" His partner asked again.
"No, that's not what I mean, did you just called me hyung?"
Devius nodded. "Yeah, I heard it means brother in korean. I heard it once while watching kdrama." He answered.
"What?"
"Hmm. I don't usually watch it but since I have to work with you and you're korean, so I decided to learn some words through kdrama." Devius explained with his sleepy eyes.
Cameron is left dumbfounded. "You mean, you watched kdrama because of me?"
"Uh, yeah, I do."
Detective Lee was out of words upon hearing those. He stared at Officer Chad's face, looking for any sign that he was joking but all he could see was his drunken eyes, his blushing cheeks due to the alcohol and soft red lips that is curved on the other side, smiling. As he looked at those lips, he felt his heart beating in an unfamiliar way and his face suddenly heating up. He wanted to look away but this time, he couldn't get his eyes off of them. It's as if Officer Chad's lips are magnet and his eyes were metals.
"Hey, senior! Answer me, please." He only came back to his senses when drunk Devius held his right arm.
"W-What did you asked again?" He stammered.
"I'm asking if we can be friends. Can we be friends?" Devius drunkenly asked again, his lips are now pouty.
Detective Lee has no choice but to say, "Yes, we are friends. Now, let's get in." Before he get hypnotized again.
Devius smiled and opened the door before coming in. He walked towards his assigned bed and slammed down. Detective Lee followed inside, locked the door and sighed.
"Hey, Chad, take a shower first before sleeping." He said but Officer Chad was already sleeping.
'This thing is really something.' He thought, shaking his head.
Cameron went to the bathroom and took a shower. After finishing, he went to bed and lied down. He stared at the ceiling for a moment, giving out sighs. He then turned to his side and saw Devius scratching on his neck and body. Cameron shook his head trying to ignore him but in the end, he just couldn't.
"Tss! I told him to take a shower before sleeping. So stubborn." He whispered as he gets up from his bed.
Cameron walked to the bathroom, got a basin and put some cold water in it. After that, he took a face towel and poured some hot water inside the basin to make it warm. He then went to Devius' bed and place the basin full of water beside him.

"You owe me one time, Chad." He mumbled as he looked at the officer's sleeping face.
He had never taken care of anyone before and he has also never encountered someone as wasted at Officer Chad but this job is a piece of cake for him. Cameron started unbuttoning Devius' shirt. He doesn't know why he felt some kind of embarrassment while doing that. Maybe because it's the first time he's going to take care of someone? When he finally undid all the buttons, Devius' perfectly shaped abs showed. He doesn't really work out but he has a very good body. Maybe all the running while chasing criminals helped him get built up. It's not so muscular like the other guys but his body was like it came out from a manhwa. It was just perfect.
"What the hell." He cursed himself when he found his staring at his partner's body.
Cameron continued removing Devius' shirt completely and begun with his work. He squeeze the towel to remove excess water in it before gently rubbing Officer Chad's face and neck with it.
"Mmm~" Devius groaned as he grabbed Detective Lee's hand making the detective a bit startled.
"Hey, let go of my hand so I can finish my job here." He said taking his hand back.
"We're friends... Let's be friends until the end, hyung. I won't let anyone hurt you... I'll stay by your side even if you find me annoying..." He mumbled making Detective Lee stare at him.
"Why is being friends with me seem so important to you?" He unknowingly asked.
Devius opened his eyes slightly and smiled. "Because I don't want you to be alone. I am not a good adviser but I'm a good listener and a very good observer."
"I am not alone, Chad. It's my choice to stay by myself, I am fine with it." Cameron denied.
"You may have not said any word about how you feel, but I can see the loneliness in your eyes. Let me accompany you, hyung." He said that in the most sincere way that it managed to move Cameron's heart.
Some people have spoken to Cameron before about friendship, especially when he became one of the greatest detective in his department. Some had told him before that they are his friends but no one has ever told him that they want to accompany him and stay by his side 'til the end. No one has ever seen through the barricade he had set up before. That's why when he heard those words from Devius' lips in his sincerest voice, he couldn't help but feel moved.
He stared at his junior's face. "Why would you want to accompany me? You have your sister to accompany, yeah?" He asked.
"My sister? Daena can handle herself. She has friends and I never saw the loneliness in her eyes which I always see in yours." Officer Chad responded.
"What if I'm lonely? You always say I'm rude, so what's the point of wanting to stay with me if you know that I'm always gonna be rude towards you?"
Devius smiled with his eyes struggling to stay open. "Because I like you and every day, I'm even liking you more. When you like someone, you wouldn't mind how they treats you. You would always want to see them happy." He answered.
Devius didn't mean it romantically but since he did a made up confession, Cameron received it that way. Usually, he would scold Officer Chad but to his surprised, he found himself smiling after hearing that. He did his best to shove the weird feeling away but it stayed there, somewhere inside him that he couldn't locate. The unfamiliar beating of his heart and Devius' voice telling him that he like him kept playing inside his mind. No matter how hard he tried to get rid of it, it just wouldn't disappear.
"I can't believe I'm feeling this. What the hell does this means? What the hell even is this weird feeling?" Cameron sighed as he continued to wash Devius' body with the wet towel.
After wiping Officer Chad, Cameron went to get some shirt and put it to Devius. He then covered him with blanket before going to his own bed. He made his arms as a pillow as he stare at the ceiling. Thinking about Devius' confession and the words he just said earlier. He felt worried because he doesn't want to be affected but that's exactly what was happening right now. He is somehow happy but he's also worried and scared. He has never felt that way before because no one has ever told him that they liked him. Cameron is confused. He wanted to ignore his junior's confession especially because they're both men but he just couldn't.

Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
