《Call Of Death》Chapter 18 : The Next Victim 1

Officer Davius Wayne Chad suddenly felt unsafe around the tall trees and grasses. As if someone has been watching them from behind those massive trees. The call made him anxious but he wasn't afraid at all, just worried. The wind blowing the trees, making its leaves to fall on the ground that's already piled up with dried leaves. The atmosphere isn't comfortable too as the surroundings is starting to get dark. He took a deep breath and walked towards the detective.
"Cameron?... Caiseus?... Cam?... Cai?..." He called Cameron calmly but his partner seemed so distracted that he didn't even heard him. "Detective Lee..." He once again said but still got no response. "Cameron Caiseus Lee!" When he called him the third time and still got no response, he called him louder. "Hey! Detective Cameron Caiseus Lee!"
"Ha? What?" Detective Lee looked at Officer Chad with confusion.
"What's wrong with you? I've been calling you for a while now." Devius asked, wrinkling his brows.
Detective Lee once again look back and Officer Chad followed but saw nothing. There's only dried leaves.
"What happened? What is it? What are you looking at?" Devius asked.
"I saw a suspicious man earlier, standing behind this tree." He said, pointing behind the tree.
Devius felt something was off but he doesn't want to show it because the culprit might just be around. He's the kind of person who doesn't want to show his weakness because it might be used against him by the enemies.
"There was no one there, aren't you just mistaken?" He simply asked.
Detective Lee shook his head. "Nevermind. Let's just go."
Detective Lee begun walking towards the car and Officer Chad was about to follow when he felt his phone vibrating again. He furrowed his eyebrows when he saw that it's the same number who called him earlier but still answered it.
He heard a chuckle on the other side. "Looking for me, officer?" The unnatural deep voice of a man asked, confirmed, it's the same person from earlier.
"What do you want? Who are you? Are you the one who killed those innocent lives?" Devius tried not to scream in anger by balling his fist.
The voice gave out a soft laugh. "You will know once we met. I'll see you soon, Officer Devius Wayne Chad." After that, the call ended again.
'What the hell?'
He feels frustrated but decided to shrugged it off, so Detective Lee won't notice. He's caught between telling and not telling his partner about the call. He then walked to the car and they both hopped in and drived back to the city. It's already dark when they arrived at their station. Most of their colleagues are already sleeping in their quarters and some are already asleep in their desk.
They are both bothered by something but they didn't notice each other's reaction because they are both busy thinking about their own worries. Cameron Lee is thinking about the man he saw on the forest earlier and Devius Chad is busy thinking about who might the killer and if he should or should not tell his senior about the call he received.
Both men marched their ways to the office of their commanding officer. They knocked first before entering.
"Good evening, Chief Simon." They both respectfully greeted.
Chief Simon has been working since this morning and she's expecting for a good news but by looking at her two juniors, she knows there's nothing to expect. They were all busy, fortunately she got to change earlier because she haven't gone home for almost two days. She's wearing a simple poloshirt and a black, tight pants but her looks says authority.

"So, did you find anything?" She still asked.
Officer Devius Chad and Detective Cameron Caiseus Lee shook their heads as they sit. "No, Chief. We found nothing except for trees and dried leaves." Officer Devius uttered.
Devius wanted to tell Chief Simon about the call but he decided to find out more before reporting it. There's no guarantee yet that the caller was really the culprit they're after. He also wanted to talk to Detective Lee first, he doesn't know why but that's what he wanted. He glanced at Cameron.
"We looked everywhere but there's no trace of the suspect. There's no such house as the witness told us." Detective Lee explained.
On the other hand, in Cameron's mind, he wanted to speak about the mysterious man but he wasn't sure if he should talk about it yet. Like Officer Chad, he don't have any proof. He also have the thought that maybe he was just mistaken because he doesn't like forests, that's why he just decided to keep quiet. But he also told himself that he will find something that can prove what he saw earlier.
They have different thoughts but the same worries. Little did they know, Chief Simon knows that they're keeping something from her but she trusts these two men in front of her so she just decided to keep quiet about what she noticed.
"This is the hardest among the cases we've handled. People are dying because of that mysterious call but we can't find any lead to who is doing all of this. My head feels like exploding." Chief Simon stressfully mumbles as she sat down on her swivel chair.
"You're right, Chief. The telephone being used by the killer isn't trackable and there's no evidence left either. This one is real pain in the ass." Officer Devius agreed.
"Hmm. What about you, Cameron? What do you think? You've been silent since earlier." Chief Simon faced him, Devius also turned to him.
He just sighed and shrugged his shoulders. "I don't have any clue either. I've been known for being able to catch a criminal in just three days after the case is assigned to me but it's been more than a week and I still have no clue."
They've been doing everything to find out more information but he have found nothing at all. Officer Devius and Detective Lee has been thoroughly investigating since the case was given to them. Cameron has been doing everything to find out more information but he have found nothing at all. No evidence in the crime scene. There is no weapon found. Even if they found the rock that killed Eunice Oscars, they found no finger prints in it.
They can't even find what the motive is. Both Cameron and Devius has no idea what the culprit is telling his victims on the phone call except for the theory that he is telling them that they'll die. The phone being used can't be tracked either. They can't locate the where he called. Also, the crime happens randomly. They can't foresee or even guess who the next victim is. It just happens when it happens. Just like that.
"Then, we should investigate more. Or otherwise, more people will perish and die because of this Killer Caller." Chief Simon said, sighing deeply.
Cameron and Devius looked at each other then to their superior. "Killer Caller?" They asked in unison, Chief Simon nodded.

"Yes. We'll call this case the Killer Caller Murder Case." She answered.
She stood up and begun walking to the shelf where some information are arranged. "It's because the murder happens after the victims received a call from the culprit." She added.
Both men nod their head. An idea came to Devius' mind. If the person who called him earlier is the culprit, there must be something behind that aside from his business card. The culprit seemed to know all his moves, as if he's been watching him. Where he goes or whom he is with. But the most important thing, if the caller is indeed the culprit, he might also find out the motives of the killer or better catch him.
In his mind playing the idea of making himself a bait so he could find out more about the culprit and get an answer to some questions. Like, why he's killed the victims? Or why take red as a trophy?
"Chief, what do you think? Is the culprit a psychopath or just someone who have grudges towards the victims?" Officer Devius asked.
Chief Simon stopped what she's doing and crossed her arms before facing the guys. She stayed silent for a while as if she was thinking thoroughly before saying anything. She has no idea if the culprit is really a psycho or just someone who has grudge towards the victims but since they can't find any relationship, for now she can only think that the murderer isn't in his right mind.
"The crime happens randomly. There's also no pattern. The culprit just call some random number and tell them they will die at an exact time and it really happens. If there's any motive, we must find it out because it's been a week and we're still clueless." Chief Simon answered, Officer Devius Chad stared at his superior.
"Chief, how did you know that they were told of what time they will die?" Asked Officer Chad, confused.
"It's Detective Parker's theory. Didn't I tell you before?" She answered, the officer nodded in response.
Something caught his attention but he couldn't tell what that is. He looked at Detective Lee who looks so deep in his thoughts again. Cameron must have not noticed that Devius noticed him being anxious. Then, he just decided to brushed it off, thinking he must have been overthinking.
Devius scratched his head. "I think so. Maybe I forgot." He said.
"This case gas been so stressful, it's normal to get forgetful when you don't have enough time to rest." Detective Cameron Lee mumbled.
"You're right." Devius agreed.
Detective Lee stood up and walked to the door. "That's why we must catch this bastard as soon as possible to prevent anymore damage. I'll go first, see you." He waved his hand and went out of the office.
Devius looked at Cameron as he walked out of the room. He wanted to follow him immediately but he chose to stay because he wanted to say something to the Chief.
"He must have something in his mind again and not wanting to share it with any of us." He turned to Chief Simon when she spoked.
"Yeah, typical him. That's one of his personalities." He unconsciously smiled.
Chief Simon smiled too. "Seems like you've been observing him, Officer Chad?"
Devius shyly shook his head. "Not really, but I just noticed it because he isn't a hard person to read, chief." He said.
"Anyway, do you still have something to tell me?" Chief Simon returned to her sit.
Officer Chad hesitated if he should voice out what's in his mind or just keep it to himself. He was suddenly doubting the person in front of him for a very simple reason. He felt like he can't trust anyone except for Cameron.
"Chief, can I ask you a question?" He started, secretly pressing the record button on his phone.
Chief Simon smiled and nodded. "What is it? Just ask me."
Devius sighed and asked, "You said there's still no information about what the killer is saying to his victims before they are killed, right?" He suspiciously asked.
Chief Simon gave him a confused looked at first before slightly laughing. "Yeah. Except for Parker's theory that they are being told about their death. Why are you suddenly being like that?"
"Why do I feel like you're not telling us everything? Why do I feel like there's something more?" He was clutching his fist inside his pocket but Chief Simon was just looking calm and relax.
"Devius, don't suspect me that way. I'm not hiding anything from you and Cameron. Also, if ever that I am not telling you something, it's not for me but you and Cam." She calmly said.
"There's no need to hide anything from me. I know that it's not just Detective Parker's theory. Is there something more, Chief?" He keep insisting.
"Devius—"
"Just tell me. I won't work for someone who's keeping secrets from me. Do you know who the killer is? What else do you know, Chief Simon?" He cut the Chief's sentence.
Sara Simon is really not telling them something, not because she is being suspicious but she doesn't know how tell them, especially Devius. But since they're in this situation already, she has no reason to hide it. Chief Simon knows how persistent this guy is and he won't stop until he finds it out. She sighed and looked straight to Devius' eyes.
"Fine. I'll tell you then. I'll tell you what I am hiding. " She said as she sighed. "Devius, you're the next victim, aren't you?" That question made Officer Chad step back.
"What?" He asked in surprise.
"Gong Seuk Tae told me he saw the coated man following you when you and Cameron visited him, he was so afraid to tell you that time so he called me and told me everything when you left." She explained, Devius wanted to listen and ask more but he suddenly felt worried about Detective Lee.
He stared at Chief Simon, she doesn't look like she's lying at all. He immediately stormed out of the room and quickly followed his partner to where they parked they car earlier. Chief Simon was left in the office sighing, thinking that Devius got surprised because of what she said. She suddenly felt guilty but it's Officer Chad who insisted on asking and she just can't hide the fact that she knows who the next victim is.
