《The Monster Inside ➺ Scott. M》Chapter 14

Astrid stood on the lonely roof. Rain drops gently hitting her naked skin. She looked up at the moon, tears in her eyes as she vamp-sped off the roof.
------
Klaus sat in a car with Isaac, Peter and laying Cora.
"Do you see the twins?" Isaac asked.
"No. But I see the Argents." Peter replied as the Argents ran in front of them.
They all heard a howl in the distance.
"What is it?" Allison asked as they still stood in front of the car.
"A retreat" Argent replied.
"Not to bring up uncomftarble memories, but wasn't the last time you saw them the time you killed Kate Argent and they burned you alive? Hmm?" Isaac asked Peter who wasnt in the car anymore.
"Well... he's gone." Klaus chuckled. "That bitch Kate tried killing my family as well but she failed" Klaus told Isaac.
"Oh..." Isaac said as he left the car. Klaus sighed and got out of the car as well.
"Where are the others?" Allison asked, running with her father towards Klaus and Isaac.
"I don't know. This is Klaus, Astrid's brother." Isaac replied as Klaus smiled slightly at the hunters. "Scott and Stiles went back for Derek and Jennifer. I had to get Cora out." Isaac told them.
Another car stopped and Derek got out. "Where's Scott and Stiles?" Allison asked.
"Stiles is still at the hospital" Derek told her. "He's gonna hold off the cops for us. We have to go right now."
"What about Scott and Melissa?" Chris asked the alpha.
"Jennifer took Melissa" Derek replied as he put Cora in the back seat of his car.
"What about Scott?" Allison asked but Derek ignored her. "Derek, where's Scott?!"
"He joined Deucalion" Astrid answered her question. She was standing behind the Argents as everyone looked at her. She stood there, naked. Pain and sadness in her eyes.
"Can everyone stop staring at her?" Klaus said, slightly annoyed that three men were staring at his naked sister.
They all turned around as Klaus gave her a jacket he was wearing. She took it and gave him a small smile.
"If you don't mind, I want to go home and put on some fresh clothes." Astrid said as everyone nodded.
-------
Isaac stormed out of Derek's home, angry that they were doing nothing to help Scott or Stiles.
"I wouldn't take it personally" Peter said as he got up from the stairs. "Anger is just a tool. He's using it to excuse shifting allegiance from one alpha to another. From you to Scott." Peter walked towards Derek and Cora. Cora was laying on the bed, coughing and dried blood on her lips as Derek sat next to the bed, watching her.
"Scott's not an alpha yet" Derek replied.
"Bit he's on his way, isn't he?"
------
"The word is 'guardian', Allison." Chris said as he entered his apartment with Allison and Stiles. "More than anyone, you know that's a role I haven't exactly lived up to lately." They entered his office.
"But she took Scott's mother and Stiles' father. That's not a coincidence" Allison replied.
"Yeah, if you also consider the fact that someone put your name up in the large block letters on the elevator doors." Stiles said, walking towards the Argent who was standing behind his desk. "That kind of felt like a warning to me."

"I think it might be Morell. She knows a lot more than she lets on, and she might be trying to help us." Allison suggested.
"Well, she needs to get on that a lot faster, Okay?" Stiles added. "Seeing as the lunar eclipse is in less than two freaking nights away."
"Stiles, don't give up hope" Argent told Stiles who was now sitting down.
"He could already be dead" Stiles said defeated.
"I don't think so. There's something about Jennifer's tactics. It's like she's still positioning, still moving pieces into place." Chris said.
"And you're one of them" Allison told her dad.
"Then let's not wait around to see her next move." Chris said. "Everything she's done has been on the telluric current. So Melissa and sheriff have to be somewhere on those currents, right? Stiles. If we're going to find them, we need your help."
"So you seriously wanna go after her?" Stiles asked. "I mean, what if she just takes you like the others, huh? No offence but what's the difference between you and them?"
Chris put bullets inside his gun and looked at Stiles. "I'm carrying a .45. Maybe she can heal from a shot to the leg and a few slashes to the face, but personally, I'd like to see how she holds up with her skull blown off. We've got one priority right now, and it's to find Melissa and your dad. We've got a map and every clue we need to figure this out. The only thing we don't have is time. Which is why I need both of you."
"Where do we start?" Stiles asked.
"A place where the sacrifices were commuted have usually been different from where the bodies have been found. I think the placement has to do with the strength of the current." Chris told the teenagers, pointing to a map of beacon hills. Stiles was now standing up and looking at the map with the Argents. "So there's the school, the animal clinic, the bank."
"Wait a sec. She wouldn't use the same place twice, would she?" Stiles asked.
"Only if she didn't succeed the first time."
"Scott's boss" Allison whispered.
"Deaton. It was her only failure. That could mean something" the older Argent said.
"That's just one place so far. We're gonna need a lot more help." Stiles told the Argents.
"What about Lydia?" Allison asked.
"Lydia?" Chris questioned. "What can she do?"
"Uh, lydia's got sort of a talent. She somehow ended up finding a couple of the bodies, um, without actually looking for them" Stiles explained.
"Well, what is she? Psychic?" Argent asked.
"She's something" Stiles said.
------
"I've heard it's something only an alpha can do" Peter told Derek. "And with a good reason."
"Which is?" Derek asked.
"You know normal wolves never abandon an injured member of the pack. They care for it they bring it food from a kill and then regurgitate it into the mouth of the injured wolf. They even give it physical and emotional comfort by intensely grooming it. In a way, that can do more than just ease pain. They can be instrumental in healing their own."
"If you're trying to tell me I can save her, just tell me." Derek said, pointing at Cora.
"I'm telling you..." Peter paused, looking at his nephew "I've heard it's possible."

"How?"
"Its that spark of power that makes you an alpha. When you take her Pain, she draws on the power that provides you with those special gifts. The power that heightens your senses, your strength. The power that transforms your body. As an alpha, you have that bit if extra, that spark that intensifies the colour of your eyes from a bright yellow into a searing red."
"If I can save her..."
"If" Peter interrupted. "If. I didn't say it works every time. It could just as easily kill you."
"How do I do it? By taking her pain?"
"And then some. Because there's a cost. The part that makes you an alpha."
-------
Argents and Isaac entered the empty bank volt, Chris electrocuted Isaac and handcuffed Allison, restraining her from walking away.
"What are you doing?" Allison asked her father.
"I knew for a while that she didn't just operate on the currents. She was in sync with them" Argent told his daughter.
A faint whirring could be heard and Argent dropped his gun on the stone floor. Jennifer then entered with a smile on her face, looking at the older Argent. "Now, this is a sacrifice."
-------
"What can I do?" Lydia asked Stiles who was standing in her room. "I mean I get that I'm some kind of, like, human Geiger counter for death. But I don't know how to turn it on and off yet. All u know is she tried to kill me because of..."
"Because of What?" Stiles asked his friend.
"When she called me a banshee, she was surprised by it. What if that's not why she tried to kill me?"
"Then why did she?"
"That's what we need to find out."
------
Argent gasped loudly, ropes restricting him from moving. Melissa and sheriff stilinski were sitting in front of him, also tied by the ropes.
"You okay over there?" Sheriff asked the hunter.
"Chris? It's Chris, right?" Melissa asked.
"Yeah" Chris panted.
"Oh.." Chris sighed as he looked around, realising where he was. The Nemeton.
------
"Argent. The French world for silver" Jennifer said as she walked down to the Nemeton, towards the Argent as Melissa and Stilinski watched. "Interesting how truth becomes altered by legend. When it's not actually the metal silver that kills werewolves, but the family. What's the Argent code again?" She paused. "'We hunt those who hunt us?' I hope you don't mind if I borrow it for a little while, since I've been hunted myself."
"Don't pretend like we have the same cause. If don't kill innocent people."
"That's why they call it a sacrifice. And I wish it worked another way."
------
Stiles and Lydia rushed into Morell's office in school, looking desperately for her.
"Are you here for Miss Morell?" Stiles asked a girl who was waiting for her in the office.
"No. I thought this was gym class" the woman said sarcastically.
"Sweetheart, were not in here for fun. Do you know where she is?" Lydia asked.
"If I did, I wouldn't be waiting here for 20 minutes. So how about you two back out the door and wait for your turn."
"We're not here for a session" Lydia replied.
"Well, I am. And I've got some serious issues to work on."
"Hold on. Did you say Ms. Morell was 20 minutes late?" Lydia asked.
"And I don't know by either. She's always on time."
"I was seeing her at the beginning of the semester. She was never late." Lydia told Stiles.
"Then she's not late. She's missing." Stiles said.
"What if we're not the only ones who think she knows something?" Lydia asked.
"Then I wanna know what she knows" Stiles told Lydia ad he began looking through Morell's papers.
"Those files are private" the woman said.
"That ones yours" Stiles handed Lydia her files.
"Let me see that" she said as she looked through her files. The woman stood up and looked at lydia's files.
"Wait. Lydia, that's your drawing." Stiles pointed out.
"Yeah, I know. It's a tree." Lydia answered.
"Yeah. It's good, too."
"Thank you."
"No, but that's the same one though" Stiles said.
"Same as what?" Lydia asked him confused.
"It's the same one I always see you drawing in class."
"It's a tree. I like drawing trees."
"No, but it's the exact same one. Don't you see? Here, give me your bag" Stiles said as he took out a notebook from Lydia's bag. He put it next to the drawing in the files and showed her the drawing in the notebook. It was the exact same tree on every single page.
"Okay, you can have my session" the woman said, creeped out by the situation. She left the office, leaving Stiles and Lydia alone.
"What is this?" Lydia gasped as Stiles kept flicking through the pages of the notebook.
Stiles then turned the notebook around, it now looked like a root of a tree. "I know where they are".
-------
Astrid and Klaus were in the living room, Astrid laid her head on Klaus' lap while she slept, tired of the fighting. Klaus also fell asleep. They were both awoken by desperate banging on the door.
Astrid sighed as she rolled off her brother, shifting towards the door. She opened it and Morell stood there, panting.
"Come in, dear" Astrid said as the emissary entered her home, following Astrid to the living room where Klaus sat. "I believe you already know who she is, Nik" Astrid stated as Klaus nodded. "She was on vervain when you tried to compel her... She knows everything about us... thanks to you" she laughed quietly and Klaus sighed, slightly annoyed at his past, drunk self.
Morell and Astrid sat down on a couch opposite Nik.
"I need your help, both of you" Morell stated.
"What do you need help with, love?" Klaus asked her.
"The alpha pack is after me. I need you two to protect me. I can protect myself but you two would certainly help. Since you are the strongest creatures on earth" she told the siblings.
"Why would we hel-"
"We will help you" Astrid interrupted Nik and he furrowed his eyebrows. "The alpha pack is really starting to get on my nerves so... I'll help you. I hope you'll help too, Nik."
"Alright, little wolf." Klaus smiled. "We'll help you, dear."
"Thank you... Astrid, they won't hurt Scott. He's too valuable" Morell said as she left the mansion. Astrid nodded with a sad smile on her face.

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
