《Low Tide \ JJ Maybank》Ch 27

I follow Sarah and Kie to the front of the house.
"She must have a generator plugged into the main power supply." Kie says.
Kiara breathes deep as we walk up the steps to the porch. I feel my hands sweating with anxiety. Sarah hushes us. Kie steps up to the circuit board and opens it.
"Where are the breakers?" Sarah asks.
"What is this?" Kie questions.
Sarah starts to panic. "No, no, no, no."
"Shit." Kie whispers. She follows the wires coming out of the box. "It goes inside."
"Then we'll have to go inside." I say quietly.
I slowly pull the screen door open. It lets out a high pitch creak as it swings open, making me cringe. I look back at the other girls for reassurance before twisting the door knob to the front door.
"Who doesn't lock their door?" I mumble under my breath. "Oh, murderers probably."
We walk around the house, looking for the breakers. A terrified silence fills the eery air. A cat yowling makes me jump out of my skin. I clap my hand over my mouth to keep from making any noise.
"Hey!" Kie whispers pointing at the wires.
"Yeah."
Sarah and I follow her through the house. Each of us hold a flashlight, shining it around. Kie smiles wildly when she finds the circuit breaker. I smile too, relieved that we found it.
"Alright." She says turning to it. She begins to flip switches on it. I hear the generator power down.
"It worked." I whisper.
A loud whirring noise catches our attention. Sarah let's out a gasp. "Shit."
Foot steps sound upstairs, echoing down to where we stood. I could tell the woman had a limp by the sound her steps made. Mrs. Crain let's out a wheezy cough.
"She's coming down stairs." I whisper.
"Shit." Sarah says again. I clamp my hand over her mouth to get her to be quiet. I hold a finger to my lips, shushing her. She nods slowly.

The three of us hug the wall as close as possible as Mrs. Crain makes her way down the stairs. She walks right in front of us.
"I can hear you, Leon." Mrs. Crain announces. "I've been waiting all night!" She whips around and looks right at us.
We run away as fast as we can, screaming. "Go, go!"
We pant as we run through the house away from the old woman.
"Leon!" Mrs. Crain screeches.
"Shit!" Kie says, realizing the door we found was bolted and boarded shut.
"Where are you, Leon?"
I quickly try to unlatch all the locks that held the door closed. "Please, please, come on!" I mumble.
Mrs. Crain turns the corner finding us. Kie gasps and pants in fear. Mrs. Crain swings the fire poker at us.
"Oh, shit!" I cry out.
Sarah grabs the fire poker as Mrs. Crain swings it back to hit at us again. She let's out a scream, yanking on the stick. It clatters to the ground as Sarah gets it away from the old woman.
"Come on, this way!" Sarah grabs the two of us and pulls us with her. We run into another room and shut the door.
The wooden door splinters as Mrs. Crain hits it with the fire poker. I jump back as wood flies at us. I turn to find the stairs that lead down to the basement.
"Guy, guys! This way." I yell. They follow me as I scramble down the stairs.
"Guys!" The other girls yell as we reach the basement.
"Woah, woah. What's going on?" Pope asks.
"Mrs. Crain, she's up there. She tried to kill us with a fire poker."
JJ looks at me as Kie explains how we were almost killed. "Are you hurt?" I shake my head.
"Guys, we gotta get the fuck out of here." Kiara urges.
"We locked her in the parlor but we gotta go." Sarah explains.
"We probably don't have long." I say agreeing with the other girls.

"Okay, that's code red!" JJ yells. "John B, get back up man!"
We grab onto the rope my brother was attached to and pull. "Three, two, one, pull!" Pope instructs.
We all fall to the ground when the rope feels too light.
"Jeez!" JJ mumbles.
"Shit!" Sarah says.
"Where the hell is he?" Pope asks.
"John B!" Sarah tells.
Kiara tries to shush us all. Everyone was yelling too much to hear anything other than ourselves. We hear John B yelling up the well but nobody could make out what he was saying.
"JJ! Pope! Kat! Kie!"
"Yo, he's drowning! We gotta pull him up!" Kie says frantically.
"Hey, John B. Get back on the rope. We're gonna pull you back up, okay, buddy?" Pope yells down to my brother.
"Okay, everybody, help!" JJ demands.
We all grab the rope again.
"Okay, I'm on!" John B yells.
"Yeah! Yeah!" Kie yells.
"Let's go!" Pope announces.
We all pull the rope, grunting as we pull my brother up the deep hole. My hands burn from the friction against the rope.
"Come on!" Pope groans. "Pull!"
A gunshot rings out in my ears as a column explodes next to me. I let out a small scream.
"Jesus!" JJ yells. "Shit, hang on! Climb up! Help me! Hang on!"
"Tie it up now, man!" Pope says.
"Pope, hide!" JJ yells again.
"Go! Go!" Kie rushes us. She pulls me behind one of the columns. "She can't aim for shit."
"She can't see." I realize. "She's blind."
Mrs. Crain shoots the gun again, near where we were hiding.
"Shit, go!" Kie tells us. "Go, Sarah."
We run from our hiding spot. Another gunshot. We run to the small door we had used previously and make a run for it.
"Can we go now?" JJ asks from behind us as we run to the car.
"Get into the car!" Sarah yells.
"Come on!" JJ urges.
I hurry into the car, sitting down in the driver seat, getting ready to take off.
"Where is he?" Kie asks desperately.
"Come on, start the car! Go!" Pope instructs. I start the car and start driving very slow.
"John B!" Sarah calls out.
"Why are we always getting shot at?" Pope asks loudly.
"Come on! John B, run!" Kie urges my brother.
"Oh, my god!" Pope yells as John B climbs into the car.
"Shit!"
"Kat, drive!" Sarah yells. I press down the gas petal, speeding up down the street.
"Oh, my god!" I say anxiously but with a smile.
"Are you okay? Are you shot?" JJ asks JB from the passenger seat.
"No."
"You good?" Kie asks.
"Yeah, yeah."
"I think I'd know if I was shot, right?" Kie questions.
"Yes, Kie." I tell her.
"You look disgusting." I hear Pope comment.
"God, you smell like ass." Kie agrees.
"What the hell just happened?" Sarah asks distraught.
"All-time Pogue Hall of Fame, baby!" JJ cheers.
"Hell yeah!" Kie yells. "That bitch is possessed."
"That bitch can't aim." Sarah says.
"How can she move that fast?" Pope asks.
"She's possessed." Kie says again.
"It doesn't make any sense scientifically."
"She does yoga. Pilates."
"Oh, god!" JJ exclaims.
"What is that?" Kie asks, catching my attention.
"No, you didn't!" Sarah says in disbelief.
"We did it, baby!" John B cheers.
"No, you didn't!" Sarah repeats.
"I did it!"
"Oh, my god!" JJ shouts looking behind us.
"No fucking way!" I say glancing back. "Holy shit!"
Everyone in the car starts screaming and yelling excitedly. We had actually done it.
"Holy shit! Holy shit!" Kie yells.
"That's gold!" JJ yells.
"Wait, wait." Kie quiets us. "Guys, we're gonna be rich!"
We all start chanting. "Full Kook! Full Kook!"

Demons Don't Lie
Algier, average human and recent convict, has committed the gravest sin of all: demon slaying. His fate? To participate in the Culling, a battle-royale style tournament that’s televised live to the world, where all the worst criminals go to die. As with all tournaments, a prize is on the line. If Algier survives, he can have any wish granted by the Marquises, the new rulers of Earth following the demons’ invasion. However, there’s little hope for survival in a tournament designed to have demons do the work of the executioner, especially for a human. Demons are stronger, faster, wiser, and more talented than the average human, and, despite his crime, Algier is no demon hunter. Mentally defeated before the tournament even begins, Algier is torn between becoming another demon’s points and fighting on in his dead mother’s legacy. But should he choose to fight, there is one advantage that Algier has that can tip the odds in his favour: Demons don’t lie, but humans can. How to read this story Demons Don't Lie is written from the perspective of an unreliable (lying) narrator. There are many inconsistencies within the story which are placed there intentionally. It's up to the reader to decide what is the truth and what is the lie. Promotion Full quality cover image

The Unsorcerer
DISCLAIMER: The cover pic is not my original work. Credits goes to the Illustrator. This is a story of a man named Cipher, a 21st Century man reincarnated in a world where magic is the way of life. In the continent of Iarica, the people of this land are able to wield the crystals or magic stones for whatever purpose they desire. These people are called "Sorcerers", blessed individuals who are favored by the Gods and gifted with an ability to manipulate "Mana", the energy of the World and the energy source that makes all of the machines run. Cipher in contrast, is not. He is an "Unsorcerer", a person unable to wield the crystals and mana and eventually magic itself. Because of this "defect", he is shunned, ridiculed, and abused by most people and eventually by the whole society. Little did Iarica and her denizens know, this so-called reject of society is more than what he seems... Note: This humble Author-san is not a native English speaker, so there will be grammatical errors. Also the chapters are short, about 1K words. However I will try my best efforts on reaching the 2k-4k words threshold. Another note is that this will be a Harem fic, so to anyone who are not fan of the genre this may not be your cup of tea. Any criticsm are welcome as long it can help me to improve my writing skills since I'm just a newcomer in this scene.
